Aloha Council’s Membership Newsletter December 2021

1,775 more scouts needed to meet Council membership goal Over the past few years, primarily due to challenges relating to the COVID-19 pandemic, there has been a decline in traditional Cub Scout and BSA membership. To provide growth while sustaining membership in Units, and to meet Aloha Council’s goal of 5,000 Scouts, the Council Membership Committee has adopted the following goals with four key elements: (1) RECRUITMENT by preparing all Units to participate in both Spring and Fall recruitment drives by following a “Try Something New in 2022” campaign; (2) RETENTION by ensuring a timely and well managed registration process to ensure strong retention rates; (3) WEBELOS TO SCOUT TRANSITION by working with units to implement effective Webelos to Scout transition plans; and

(4) NEW UNITS by identifying new charter organization partners and working with our BSA network to establish new units. Within Hikina District alone, the following are possible new unit opportunities:

Central Union Church - Girl Troop St. Anthony Church – Girl Troop Honpa Hongwanji - Girl Troop Iolani School – Girl Troop Manoa Elementary – Girl Troop Kailua Boys and Girls Club – Pack and Troop First Presbyterian Church of Honolulu – Pack and Troop Key Club Kahaluu – Pack and Troop Damien School - Exploring Post St. Mark’s Lutheran Church – Pack and Troop St. Peter and Paul - Pack and Troop For those interested in helping to open doors to creating the above-listed units, please contact Aloha Council’s Field Director Billy Rayl at (808) 380-5436 or (808) 896-0895 or Billy.Rayl@scouting.org.

“Weird Science” Fall Day Camp at Camp Pupukea was a huge success with 196 Cub Scouts attending over 4 sessions. Stations incuded fluffy slime, tie-dyed neckerchiefs, popsicles catapults, paper rockets, archery, and slingshots.

Approximately 100 youth and parents participated at our Fishing Event in Wahiawa in November. Following a safety briefing, each scout learned the proper way to “cast” a bamboo pole and caught fish! Special thanks to Certified Angling Instructors, such as Stan Wright and KukaMalia Broussard, and all of the many volunteers for making the event a success!
