5 b ARABIAN HORSE WORLD b DEcEmBER 2009

The two-year-old filly class had an American-bred winner in Marabella C, a stretchy chestnut daughter of Marwan Al Shaqab out of Greta C, bred by Coleal Arabians and owned by Hanan Shvaizer of Israel. She won very narrowly over Sax Arabians’ Tamice, a daughter of WH Justice, third going to Austria’s Aaliyana Psy by Psytadel, also two excellent fillies. Jayyid’s older brother Murana’s Jassehr headed the two-year-old colt class with a spectacular score of 92 points. The success of these colts is really remarkable. They are sired by Major, a premium stallion and champion of Egyptian and old German (Weil-Marbach) breeding, who despite his merits has not been used very much, due to his not exactly fashionable pedigree. However, his only three foals, all colts, are being shown with great success and winning championships, which should surely be an argument in his favor! Michaela Weidner, who bred and owns both Jassehr and Jayyid, notes that “people told me I was crazy” when she bred her mare Jana El Bri to Major. Well, sometimes unusual choices pay off. Both colts are well-conformed, typey, and excellent movers — and they win. Jassehr
