The World Discovers Nazeer

Because Nazeer proved to be such an exceptional sire it was only a matter of time before other countries would take an interest in him. In 1955, the very first Nazeer exports to leave Egypt were the stallions Hadban Enzahi (x Kamla by Sheikh El Arab) and Ghazal (x Bukra by Shahloul), and the mare Nadja [Nadia] (x Nefisa by Balance) who all went to Germany. Hadban Enzahi and Nadja both went to the historic WeilMarbach State Stud, while Ghazal went to Prince Zu Inn und Knyphausen. Both Hadban Enzahi and Nadja carried two lines to Mansour reflecting Von Szandtner’s notion about the breeding value of Mansour. Hadban Enzahi established a record as fine sire at Marbach but it was not until age 15 that he finally saw the opportunity to be bred to the few straight Egyptian mares in Europe at that time. Nadja proved a fine broodmare. Eight of her foals were by straight Egyptian sires. Ghazal represented the classic example of the successful Nazeer-Shahloul cross already proven by such other splendid examples as Ansata Bint Bukra, Alaa El Din and Bint Moniet El Nefous. However Ghazal saw very little opportunity to be bred to straight Egyptians compared to Hadban Enzahi. His first two straight Egyptians were the beautiful mares Moheba II and Malikah both out of Malacha thereby founding the world famous “M” family. His last two straight Egyptian daughters, Ghazalah (x Afifa) and Gazala (x Hanan) would complete his legacy in Egyptian breeding.

The influence of the initial Nazeer get in German Arabian breeding distilled an interest in Nazeer that would lead to the arrival, a decade later, of another Nazeer son Kaisoon (x Bint Kateefa) followed by Kaisoon’s three-quarter brother Farag (Morafic x Bint Kateefa), with more Nazeer bred horses to follow.

Nazeer Breeding Arrives in North America

Three years after the German importations, Nazeer get began to arrive in North America beginning in 1958. Within only a decade after that, 16 Nazeer get and 29 Nazeer grand get had been imported to North America. By 1973, North America had obtained nearly one fourth of ALL Nazeer get ever produced. North America, more than any other country worldwide including Egypt would achieve the greatest concentration of Nazeer horses. Though there were many breeders who became involved, six Nazeer line programs emerged in the 1960s and 1970s as an enduring influence of the Nazeer legacy primarily because of their size and longevity or both. They are considered founding breeders and their names are often used to describe pedigree elements in Nazeer bred horses today. These six were: Pritzlaff: The first 3 Nazeer get to come to the U.S. were imported in 1958 by Richard Pritzlaff who maintained a breeding program for many decades. He is famed as the importer of Bint Moniet El Nefous, Nazeer’s only producing daughter out of the legendary Moniet El Nefous. The success of his breeding program resulted Pritzlaff bred Arabians becoming a notable part of Arabian breeding internationally including world champions.
