gave clinic attendees who had brought along their horses individualized instruction in halter and performance. Missouri has six AHA Region 11-affiliated clubs. Iowa can lay claim to one of North America’s highest-paying, most popular breeders’ incentives, the Iowa Gold Star Futurity. Breeders and enthusiasts from North and South America participate in this prestigious payback program because foals sired by Iowa Gold Star Futurity stallions can win big bucks. To wit: 2011’s winning purebred Iowa Gold Star Auction Filly won $27,850. Bidders at both the purebred and part-bred stallion service auctions get to select from among leading Arabian, Saddlebred and Dutch Warmblood sires. This year’s Iowa Gold Star Futurity Show, open to purebreds and HalfArabians, will take place August 30 through September 3, 2012. Check their website for more information. Iowa has two affiliated clubs, the Iowa Arabian Horse Association and the Arabian Horse Society of Iowa. The Iowa Arabian Horse Association offers a variety of Class A and B shows and fun shows. The Arabian Horse Society of Iowa, established in 1974, sponsors overnight trail rides, fun shows, dressage and western clinics, educational gatherings and informal open barns and get-togethers. The club’s three fun shows qualify entrants for year-end High Point Awards. Stacey Dunn honchos the Region 11 Arabian Horse Association’s T.A.I.L. (Total Arabian Interaction Learning) program. The AHA bills this as “an easy and effective way for current Arabian owners and lovers to share their love for the breed.” T.A.I.L. can be administered at any horse show, horse fair or other equine venue, they add. Angie O’Neill describes the program’s success at the Region 11 Show. “We had 127 youth come this year,” she reports. “They came from Girl Scouts, Big Brothers and Big Sisters, and from our area’s home schooling programs. We handed out packets, they got to sit in the stands and watch classes, and we took them through the barns, where they got to have a hands-on experience with Arabian horses. “Something else fun and new at our show this year came when Wanda Funk, driving Eurokhem, brought the flags into the ring each day, displayed on her Meadowbrook driving cart. This was a well-received detail, and one we plan to continue.”
