FROM THE PUBLISHER

Greetings Fellow Arabian Enthusiasts, After our first issue debuted in Dubai, I was approached by interested people wondering if the editorial and interviews were a result of paid design. It seemed obvious to them, they were saying, that more effort had been put into the design of the editorial of Abroad than in other assorted Arabian magazines. I would like to address this, as it brings up some important points. First off, editorial is not paid by any client, but paid technically, by the magazine itself, as all those involved in getting the piece done, whether it be the the writer, designer of, or additional staff, need to be paid. Owner / CEO Lara Ames Publisher Jeff Wallace AHT Abroad Representative Mieke Opsteyn AHT Abroad Designers Elisa Grassi Gregor Aymar Production Manager Jody Thompson Senior Designer Marketing Director Wayne Anderson Editorial Coordinator/Proofreader Charlene Deyle AHT Advertising Account Executive Tony Bergren Multimedia Director and Photojournalist Riyan Rivero Contributing Writer Anne Stratton Print & Web Design Tony Ferguson Leah Matzke Melissa Pasicznyk Sales Assistant Rachel Ginter Accounts Receivable Deb Trebesch

I believe the reason for their asking is due to the fact that we feel editorial to be important to the present and future of our breed and should be showcased beautifully and treated with a certain respect that is on par with our advertising pages. Editorial, you see, is simply our gift, in every single issue, back to an industry we so love and appreciate. Editorial is a way of educating people through the interviews and focused features, as well as historic and current articles. Topics and authors are carefully chosen at the Abroad magazine for this reason, to offer the opportunity of knowledge, whether taken or not, to all passionate people in our breed. There are many newcomers around the world who learn from these things, but it also offers the oldtimer a peaceful moment to reflect on possibly, a favorite horse or special moment in time that simply feels good to remember. We continue to get amazing feedback from the editorial we have been offering so that is why we treat it the way we do. We take great pride in our growing list of loyal and supportive advertisers, breeders, owners and trainers alike, who continue to showcase their winning horses from show arenas around the world between our covers. We also take pride in the wonderful writers and designers who are there to show us what is happening everywhere. We do not want to be just another magazine, but the magazine for the Arabian horse in Europe and the Middle East. Welcome Abroad!

WOMEN AROUND THE WORLD

WOMEN AROUND THE WORLD C a t h a r i n e S c h o u k e n s -T a m s i n SCHOUKENS TR AINING CENTER M ALDEGEM, BELGIUM with Jeff Wallace

Where would you say you “grew up”? I am still growing up every single day, but to answer the question formally; I was born in Bruges and grew up like a normal child in a little town called Koekelare, about 45 minutes from the farm in Maldegem. Please tell us a little about the family life of young, elementary school-aged Cathy. My parents had a Coach Company and were very busy, so the first seven years of my life I was raised with my grandmother who was very Catholic and strict. At that time I did not like it that much, but now I am grateful, as I believe she “brought” me my morals and standards. From seven years of age I was raised further with my parents. My dad was a very intelligent but special personality. He unfortunately died at age 59 in 2003 and there are still so many things I would like to discuss with him as only now am I ready for it. My mom is a very loving, caring and amazing, beautiful woman. She is our biggest fan and never misses a show when near, nor a presentation. I love her very much and regret I cannot spend more time with her. I was a normal child I guess, I played with dolls and loved animals. I used to dress up my cats and take them for walks in the stroller. I had lots of friends but I hated school with a passion! Who was the first Arabian horse you ever laid eyes on and what was the experience like? Our neighbor Dr. Rik (still one of my best male friends) was/is a GP and had Arabian horses. I used to go there every day and also did the foal watches when the mare was due and under camera surveillance. I don’t know how many times I watched the “Black Beauty” movie during those nights! The first Arabian I thus met was a chestnut mare born in 1983 called ES Samit. Rik bought her at Jadem Arabians; she was a Numizmat daughter.

As a very knowledgeable and respected woman in this business, please tell us how you came to acquire your skills and experience. First of all, thank you for the compliment! As I told you, I hated school so I never really got a diploma/degree. I dropped out of school whenever I could (in Belgium we have a compulsory attendance at school till 18). I started working at my parents’ company in the office; I worked in a transport company; the ornamental fish business and its clients; in a travel agency; at the ticket desk in an airport; in a department store, so I basically gained my skills through experience. Always in administration and accounting. Getting older, I did regret the fact that I had no degrees, so I decided that I had to try to be the “best” in something, as I believe anyone should, no matter what! I became a striver and a perfectionist. My vice is my virtue … and I like to use a quote by Albert Einstein, “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid.” Tell us what your annual exotic holiday getaway with Tom does for you both professionally and personally. Well, I look forward to that week already every year from the moment we leave our vacation resort till the next year. I cry every time when it’s over. We enjoy it so much, and we then transform into the most lazy, relaxed people on earth. We need that week to remember and cherish the “way we were” personally and it recharges the batteries to go back, full on, professionally. Working together isn’t always that easy, as we are together 24/7, but we learned to manage that. Tom is my best friend, my buddy and a very good husband for me. We know each other very well. He would be freakin’ perfect if only he would love dancing! We are both very different and yet similar in many ways. I think that the multiple things we have in common got us to

where we are today. When the going gets tough the tough get going! Who have your mentors been in the Arabian horse business? I don’t “do” a lot with the horses other than loving and petting them, so from my aspect of the business, the administration point of view, the organizing skills, I can definitely say Martine Van Hee and Ingrid Bleifuss. I respect them a lot and have learned a lot from them. Being an integral part of Schoukens Training Center on a daily basis, please give us a snapshot into your daily life on the job. I usually wake up between 7 and 8 am, depending on how busy the day ahead is and what is all in “my head.” Sometimes I work at night and on the weekend when it’s really quiet and I can do a lot! I get up, make coffee and check the mail. If it’s really busy and a lot is going on in the morning, you can sometimes still find me in pajamas at 11 am behind the computer because I forgot the time—that can be really embarrassing. I try to cross off as much on my

endless to-do list as possible in a day. Last year my assistant, Kim, took over a lot of my work so I could focus on the many phone calls and client visits. So I mail, I call, I brief, I comfort and I try to entertain! You have an amazing collection of young and passionate grooms. Tell us what they mean to you and your business. They are really a little bit like my children. And sometimes they also behave like that and I sometimes behave like a mom. I am strict but also loving, I hope. With your diverse client base ranging from singlehorse owners to those who stable their entire herds with you and who hail from all corners of the world, how do you navigate the differences that come from such diversity? That is not so difficult to answer, as I always stay professional and treat all people the same way. Some are more demanding, some are easy, some are friends; you adapt yourself to the wishes of the client, because I “work” for them. We all have our place in life and I know mine very well and am very happy with where I

belong. So it sometimes happens that I can also be very demanding when I am a “client” for something.

sometimes—and I guess His Highness knows me a bit by now.

Share the feelings you instantly had when Ward purchased Georgia and you knew she was coming to Schoukens. I knew before the sale that Ward had the green light from His Highness Prince Abdulaziz to bid on her with the promise she could come and live with us. That’s why the auction itself was very stressful for me, but my first emotion was relief, and after, pure happiness. I was so excited, that I sent a text message to His Highness saying, “You are my hero.” I am not actually sure if that was appropriate, but it was totally me—I can be quite impulsive

Tell us about the Polish pasture that has evolved at your place. Yes, it is amazing! Every time we have a visitor, we do a farm tour, and I am amazed to see the Pride of Maldegem, really still, every time. The best is when we have people visiting that love the Polish horses. To witness the excitement on their faces, their expressions and emotions is priceless.

How has the Arabian horse enriched your life? The horses, the business, they made me into the person I am today. Sometimes I feel like it is all a

bit too much; it’s all about the horses and I don’t have enough time to see my friends anymore or visit my mom as often as I would like to. I have a rich emotional and spiritual mind to do things for which there is no time. I was not born with the Arabian horse in my veins, but I did get addicted to it and think I could not live without it. What is it like to see your husband and brotherin-law reap the benefits of their hard work when winning great prizes for your wonderful clients? A lot of times I say, ‘man, we are lucky,’ but I realize that a good dose of luck does not happen without hard work! We are still modest after every win and, hopefully, stay modest forever. As a mother, what does it mean to have your son working with you at Schoukens? Amazing! First I was scared about it, because it would be a different

kind of relationship, but it worked out very well! He is very stubborn and also strives to do the best like me, but I can handle it, as sometimes it is like looking in the mirror … What is your favorite part about foaling out mares? The moment he or she is completely out, breathing and the mare makes those special sounds like she only does then—that is pure and genuine love! Tell us about the first horse you bred or co-bred that you were really proud of. First one, Nyara JC, and then her daughter SA Misha Apal. I was there when both were born, but Misha continuously was a part of my life in many different ways. It’s actually like faith. She is my favorite horse of all times; I have no words to describe how I feel about this horse.

WOMEN AROUND THE WORLD

You are known for caring deeply for the horses and people. What do you think makes you that way? Mainly my education, my morals and standards; my belief that everything happens for a reason and my positive attitude, which allows everyone to have a bad day once in awhile. Also my hope, faith and love. Name a handful of Arabian mares alive today that make you weak in the knees. SA Misha Apal, because she carries a piece of my heart; CR Jasmeenah, because she is such a special individual; Najdah Al Zobair, because of her beauty; El Dorada, because of her charisma; MA Bint Azadik, because she is a warrior, and Bint Saida Al Nasser, for all the reasons mentioned before. I also have “Georgia on my mind.”

Cathy and her dog Amy Jo at the Berlin Show.

If you could resurrect any two horses, who would they be and why? Pianissima, because she went too early to Heaven, and El Shaklan! What is your favorite horse destination to travel to? Poland and Brazil. Please tell us some of your favorite moments during your recent open house at Schoukens Training Center. For sure, the presentation of Georgia, turned loose without anyone knowing about it, was a magical moment because it was unplanned. Eden C, putting on his “one man” show; what a stallion! And, the parade with all the champions led around by every single one of “the children”, and I have a lot of children, so there were a lot of champions. I only realized then, how extremely proud I should be!

Cathy hugging Adel Abdelrazik.

Is there anything else you’d like to share? I love quotes and most of the time, they express the things that keep me personally occupied, so I will share my favorites. My first quote and personal mantra, which I have tattooed on my right foot so I can see it every single day is in Latin: Dum Vivimus, Vivamus, meaning “While we live, let us enjoy life.” I try to pursue this every day. Also, the following: “Where you invest your love, you invest your life.” “What you become depends on what you can overcome.” “The best things in life, aren’t things.” “All the art of living lies in a fine mingling of letting go and holding on.” n

After a hiatus from the show ring and having just weaned her 2015 foal, the multi-Champion mare returned to the spotlight making her first appearance at the Scottsdale International Show. Makeda DB, one of the most talked about mares in the valley, was presented by Greg Knowles to an enthusiastic crowd and was the winner of the Straight Egyptian Mare class and crowned the Senior Champion Mare! It was incredibly special to see her return to the highly competitive arena after having multiple foals. Makeda loves to show, and sensing it may be her last trip to the winner’s circle, she really turned it on in the finals! Following a short rest in Texas, Makeda will return to her home at Dreamco Arabians. For info on Makeda’s colts contact Shawn Crews - shawn@arabiansltd.com

A Continuing Of Greatness by Jeff Wallace

For the more seasoned and serious breeders and enthusiasts of the Arabian horse, it was one of those very special moments, a Magnolia moment after all. One that will not be forgotten by a chosen few ...

| 131 | Volume 1, No. 2

It was a sunny day during the Scottsdale show, earlier this year, when an elegant, stylish and dark bay filly, alongside handler extraordinaire Keith Krichke, became the Junior Champion Filly. A title that is never an easy one to garner due to tough competition all around, it was a mystic and magical moment for breeder/owner Jessie Szymanski-Hoag of Paradise Farm Arabians. The winning filly’s name is Mystic Magnolia PF and here is just how special this win is in Jessie’s own words and why it will remain in the hearts of a close-knit few forever. “Mystic Magnolia PF winning the Junior Filly championship at Scottsdale with Keith was such a surreal moment,” Jessie Szymanski says. “That class was filled with world class quality fillies. Keith and “Maggie,” as she is affectionately called within her intimate family, trotted into Wendel with so much pride and charisma, that you just couldn’t keep your eyes off them. I simply could not be more proud of her, as I am still filled with an abundance of joy. I don’t think I have ever seen my father more excited, it was a very special moment for us and we are so grateful for how it turned out.” You see, it all started when Jessie and her father purchased a select few of the Battle Hill Farm mares carrying the BHF prefix. One very special, indeed, being the stunning Mystic Rose BHF, a daughter of Padrons Psyche and BHF cornerstone mare NV Ali Bey, a National Champion Mare of Brazil and superb producer in both Brazil and in America. Not too long after her purchase and carrying the Paradise Farms Arabian banner, Mystic Rose BHF showed her heart out for Krichke during the 2014 United States National Championships show in Tulsa and was pinned the Reserve National Champion in her mare halter class. Just across the arena, however, and winning a top ten was her spectacular grey daughter, Mystic Love WRR (Beijing BHF, by Falcon BHF x Felisha BHF), in the competent hands of Maureen Krichke, Keith’s lovely and talented wife. This is quite validating of the mare family of whom we are speaking. When you buy into greatness you simply have a better chance than most to create your own layer of magnificence. Most importantly, you have to know how to connect the dots and this most often

requires an artful team with an experienced leader riding herd. Just so you know, you are absolutely going to love the rest of this story. Actually, the story began in 1989 when doctors’ Dorris Ragsdale and husband Lynn Smith brought two big beautiful and winning fillies home to West Virginia, from the annual Scottsdale All Arabian show. They had just recently established Battle Hill Farm, and the chestnut filly Tevkah (*Muscat x Vietka, by *Nariadni) and the grey Bey Serenade SF (Bey Shah x Brandie Alexandra, by *SR Nadom) founded a breeding program that would have a positive impact on the breeding of Arabian horses in America at the highest of levels. Lynn and Dorris over the next twenty years or so, would make breed history while the man at the end of the lead for the BHF-bred horses for most of these years was none other than Keith Krichke. Later, when the eventual United States National Reserve Champion Mare Bey Serenade SF was bred back to her famous sire, she gifted the farm with a stunning

grey colt Falcon BHF, who would go on to be not only their herd sire, but a national champion in halter, in the hands of David Boggs. When this special colt became a marvelous grey stallion, he was in turn bred to the aforementioned Tevkah, which produced the United States National Champion Mare Felisha BHF. Felisha continued the legacy when bred to her half-brother Denali BHF (Falcon BHF x NV Ali Bey), producing a bay and nearperfect daughter Dulcinea BHF, who was named United States National Champion Junior Mare the very same year her glorious dam won the title in the senior division, alongside Keith, of course.

National Champion Mare NV Ali Bey, a direct daughter of legendary producer Ali Jamaal and Bey Shah daughter, Mystical Bey. It was David Boggs, who offered this Brazilian jewel to Battle Hill Farm, and they immediately agreed with her having an important position within the program. She would bring them not only Denali BHF, but also Mystic Rose BHF, when bred to Padrons Psyche. When Battle Hill Farm closed its gates for good, Keith highly recommended to Jessie Szymanski-Hoag and her father, Frank Szymanski, who, based on his own long-term involvement with the countless successes of the farm, convinced them to buy into the greatness established at BHF. And so they did. There is no way around it, that is a fact. But could Jessie create another wondrous layer of her own? This is what any knowledgeable person in the breed would ask themselves knowing how difficult this would be.

Silver Laace

Frank had a horse he grew up with and worked at a stable when he was young. Later he passed on his passion for horses to his daughter Jessie. “My dad introduced me to horses when I was in second grade,” Jessie remembers. “He bought me riding lessons, and what can I say? It took off like a wild fire from there.” Nowadays, Paradise Farm is a true family business. “We all are involved,” Jessie says. “My dad, my husband, David, and I foal our mares out. My dad does about 100 acres of hay for our horses while David farms soybeans and corn on his family crop farm.” You know the horses you bought because you really badly want them? Jessie bought Silver Laace, a Sol Debut daughter out of Knight Vision just for this reason. She is not only line-bred to *Bask, with some influence of *Salon, *El Paso and *Ansata Ibn Halima, but also exactly that “white ethereal” beauty Jessie searched for so badly. “She was Reserve National Champion Mare AAOTH in 2012,” Jessie says, “and she has given us two lovely foals so far, my favorite is Crystal Laace PF by Beijing BHF.” Another broodmare is RH Inat, bred by Robin Hood Farms. The dark chestnut mare is by RA Ignite (Khadraj NA x RA Lalani) out of DA Patience (Padrons Psyche x Play Girl MSC), a pedigree full of many well-known breeding heroes like Fame VF, Bask, Padron and Gdansk. “We bought her because she has a great body with lots of substance, awesome ears, and overall, is a really nice mare,” explains Jessie. “So far she has produced four great foals for us.” She continues, “At a certain point we wanted to improve our breeding program and find high quality mares. When the Krichkes introduced us to the Battle Hill Farm breeding program, it stood out to us, as they were winning one national champion title after another. Their horses had quality, substance and movement, so basically, the whole package. Battle Hill’s program was

like no other, and we were in awe—and still are. Needless to say, we have been collecting mares from their unparalleled program ever since. Once we had the opportunity to purchase Mystic Rose BHF and her daughter Mystic Love WRR, and a few select others, adding their program to ours improved the quality of our foal crops by great lengths, and we are proud and grateful. “This past winter we decided to purchase Felisha Valentine BHF, one of Felisha’s daughters by multiU.S. National Champion Stallion DA Valentino. I have always loved and admired the physical beauty and breeding of Felisha. She is truly magnificent and I think a dark bay daughter of Valentine will make a great addition to our breeding program.

Nicodemus PF

She quickly gave us a beautiful filly by twice World Champion Stallion and this year’s Scottsdale Champion Stallion, Kahil Al Shaqab. I am also looking forward to showing her this year in the amateur mares class at the U.S. Nationals.” “Owning Mystic Rose BHF is a dream come true,” Jessie shares. “I feel so fortunate to own such a special mare. Not only is she magnificent herself, but also she can produce it, and has done so more than once.” At this moment Mystic Rose BHF is the queen of Paradise Farms who resembles the quality of her dam line and expresses all the greatness of her illustrious sire Padrons Psyche. Not only has she herself been extremely successful in the show ring with her numerous national championships, but she has produced a reserve national champion as well, Mystic Love WRR. “One of my all-time favorite show moments was when Keith showed Mystic Rose BHF and Maureen showed her daughter Mystic Love WRR for us in the Supreme Mare Championship at Nationals in 2014. It was so awesome to own two mares in that class, let alone mother and daughter. Mystic Rose ended up winning reserve in that class, as she never looked better. I was so proud of them both.” Quality begets quality, but buying into greatness doesn’t assure you the ability to continue a breeding legacy. With all

these high-class mares, Jessie and her father Frank accepted the challenge of not being only buyers of great horses. They studied, accepted advice, and learned from experienced breeders of the past. Now they have accomplished the rare feat to continue the greatness. One example is the formerly mentioned Denali BHF daughter, Desiree BHF, who produced Nicodemus PF, and was sold to Lynda and Tom Fosnot. This bold trotting bay went National Champion Hunter Futurity at the U.S. Nationals in 2015. But choosing Ever After NA as the sire for Mystic Rose BHF’s next foal was another tremendous idea of Jessie’s. This bay stallion has lines to Bey Shah, Nazeer and *Padron, too, but also added the blood of famous horses like *Muscat, Negatraz and *Aladdinn. “I knew the moment Mystic Magnolia PF was born, we had something special,” Jessie remembers. “She was so extreme with her big dark eyes, little tippy ears, and very dished face—a memory that will last forever.” With this special filly, Mystic Magnolia PF, Jessie SzymanskiHoag and her father Frank have an everlasting memory … that of a sunny day in Scottsdale when they watched the greatness of their own efforts beautifully layered on. ■

"Being a part of the amazing journey of an Equine phenomenon named Vitorio has been one of the most heartfelt highlights of my entire career. From the moment he was chosen as a yearling by two of my very best friends, Don Morse and Dan Grossma, Team Midwest has enjoyed the time of our lives. Vitorio not only carries the torch for his immortal sire, DA Valentino, but has done it with long lasting strides like no man could possibly imagine. Amassing five National and International Championships in halter followed by a golden opportunity to stand for two seasons as a chief sire inside the famed Michalow State Stud, Vitorio made his triumphant return during the Scottsdale 2016 All Arabian Show where he trumped industry records as Leading Halter Sire of the World's Largest Arabian Horse Show in six different categories! Now we proudly welcome Vitorio's return to the Stallion Barn of Midwest. I look forward with deep conviction and strong confidence as he returns to the halter arena in the United States of America, his birthplace and mine ... Stay Tuned!" —David Boggs

Our journey with this amazing stallion has been more than we ever could have imagined. From the start, Don knew that Vitorio was special and perfectly named as in Italian, his name means champion! Ironically, seven years later, Vitorio is producing champions at home and abroad for us to love and cherish! My message today is to say thank you to each and every person who has been on this journey with us ~ family, friends, trainers, grooms, breeders, photographers, videographers, writers, barn/farm managers, veterinarians and those behind the scenes in breeding barns and in offices. You are appreciated! To Director Jerzy and Urzula Bialobok of Michalow State Stud, a sincere thank you for seeing something very special in Vitorio and for giving him the opportunity to stand stud at Michalow for two years. Thank you for taking such excellent care of him and for sharing so many of your wonderful mares. My love and prayers follow you now and always. To David Boggs and Team Midwest, my forever thanks go to each of you who have always supported and loved our family and our horses. I love you all and couldn’t ask for anything more than our close friendship and the gift that we share together ~ the Arabian horse. Lastly, it would be remiss if I didn’t extend a huge and appreciative THANK YOU to all who have bred to Vitorio and put their trust in him. Without you, none of his journey would have happened ~ my gratitude is never ending! —Janey Morse

Experience Royal Arabians

It’s a remarkable adventure!” says Cindy McGown of the experience she and her family are enjoying with Arabian horses. As with so many Arabian enthusiasts, Cindy’s connection began through her daughter’s passion for horses. “From birth, Amanda loved all animals. However, once she could talk, she wanted a horse more than anything. And so Sky Fire came into our lives—our first Arabian. She was Amanda’s best childhood friend.” That was in 1990, and a lot has changed since then. Over the years, Cindy’s commitment to supporting her daughter’s rewarding involvement with one horse grew to become a business of owning over 75 horses and managing 60 Arabians, with more than 15 employees. A little girl’s pastime is now a top class breeding and showing establishment in the capital of the Arabian show horse world.

A HT A BROA D

| 183 | Volume 1, No. 2

From the beginning, Cindy has applied the business savvy apparent in her successful career as an entrepreneur to the horse operation as well. In 2003, she and Mark Davis acquired their first farm in Mesa, Ariz. “It’s a little removed from the bustle of Phoenix and fits our lifestyle perfectly,” she explains. Then, in 2015, they added a second farm, purchasing the former North Arabians on Cactus Road in Scottsdale. Currently under construction, Royal Arabians Scottsdale is being designed to state-of-the-art specifications. With the addition of the Scottsdale property, Royal also broadened its presence in the training and marketing segment of the industry by joining forces with the internationally celebrated trainer Rodolfo Guzzo, of Guzzo Worldwide LLC. What’s in the future for Royal Arabians? The answer is in the stars—the stars of the future who now occupy the Royal Arabians stalls and paddocks. If their quality is anything to go by, this adventure is going to earn a five-star rating.

HALYR MEIA LUA

the New addition...

New on the Royal Arabians stallion roster this year is Halyr Meia Lua, on lease for two years from Brazilian owners Bolivar Figueiredo, José Eduardo Guimarães Vieira and his son, André. The 2013 Brazilian National Champion Junior Colt, Halyr boasts a knockout pedigree of classic bloodlines from Lenita Perroy’s Haras Meia Lua. A North American show career is planned with Rodolfo Guzzo, but most significant for serious breeders—why Royal Arabians felt it was important to bring him to the United States—is that the stallion presents real value as a source of type on all levels.

Justin Cowden ... performance

Justin grew up in Gardnerville, Nevada, where both sides of his family were prominent cattle ranchers. His grandfather also bred Arabian horses, and gave him his first Arabian mare when he was five years old. Justin competed on the class A, regional and national level as a youth exhibitor. After moving to Scottsdale, Justin had the opportunity to learn and work for a wide variety of respected horsemen in the industry, such as Cari Thompson and Ricardo Rivero. Justin has accumulated many Scottsdale, regional, and national awards in hunter pleasure, show hack, western pleasure, and halter. In 2015 he was awarded AHT Readers’ Choice Hunter/Show Hack Trainer of the Year.

Michael Carpio... halter

Michael’s first interaction with Arabian horses was at eight years old, living next to a small Crabbet Arabian Farm. Shortly after, his family purchased their first Arabian horse. After moving to Georgia, Michael and his sister developed a passion for the breed. They acquired several Arabians over the next few years and his involvement continued to grow. At the age of 14, he began working for Chapel Farms for Bob and Christine Fauls and Chris Anckersen. His summer job turned into ten years. It was there that he developed his passion for the Arabian halter horse. After an amazing 10 years, he was offered an opportunity to work for Michael Byatt. During an incredible six-year span there, he worked with some of the most iconic horses in our breed, as well as traveling the world with the Arabian horse. Under Michael’s guidance, he learned that the horses’ care and happiness are always the priority. His journey then continued to Argent Farms, where he worked under Andy Sellman for the next three years. That leads us to today, and his position as Halter Trainer at Royal Arabians. The first year at Royal started out with great success, garnering several Scottsdale wins, numerous Regional titles and many National top tens.

they stand for. He credits MCA Magnum Gold as a special favorite and an inspiration. He respectfully honors his parents for always taking him to Arabian shows and breeding farms as he was growing up in Belgium, alongside brothers Tom and Kim. This breed is by far the better for having a young, polite and dedicated trainer like Glenn around, I assure you. Once I casually asked him, ‘Do you like the annual show in Aachen, Glenn?’ To which he replied, ‘I like all Arabian horse shows, Jeff.’ A nice answer from a nice guy... A HT A BROA D
