THE STORY
THE STORY
OF ME AND ARCHITECTURE
Paintings have always been a motivation for exploring new ideas through colors, surface and scale. The impulse addiction towards the Intangible essence of colors within a context stimulated to experiment in a bigger scale (Wall Painting). It was fun! Further experiments (this time its a wall mural) inculcated a fascination towards volume, space, light and shadow. Being the first encounter with “architecture things, thought the soulful beauty of the spatial observation as well. Instances and opinions (of few Architects) created the desire of being more than an art fellow. May also be an Architect! AR.T!

RIGID LEVELS
MULTISTORY HELICAL BUILDING
The Multistory dwelling, a concept which is supposed to bring people together in the material living state and establish connectivity between their well being. Rather it has became a solid entity to live alone with in a cluster. There is no transfer of heritage (DNA) is evident, Is it going to be a soulless volume of lives forever? As a design, sometimes it is a easy big picture one can develop, as in multiple reputation of the same foot print evolves into a multistory building. The intent is to break the theory of multiple stacking (LVL) and create a seamless vertical flow throughout the building which can establish connection between the old, middle and new age people bringing up the richness of living as a community.

The corner plot (10,000 sq.m), in padur, OMR is the site for the multistory dwelling. Access routes are managed in such a way the user moves along the traffic nature of the context. 2BHK (56 numbers), 3BHK ( 28 numbers), 4BHK (28 numbers) are the requirements of the building with basic amenities.

HOUSING
IN MYLAPORE, ADAPTIVE REUSE
An Intention to Conservation and Adaptive reuse vernacular houses in Mylapore is the core reason behind this project. There is lot inherited heritage lies in this historic town of madras. One can roam in this heritage corridor, but when it comes to accommodation it will be only something contemporary, spoiling once interest on mylapore’s heritage. The idea is to improve tourism by conserving vernacular house for accommodation, with a keen notion to create an awareness on vernacular houses among the locals by showcasing the richness and eco-friendly approach of vernacular buildings. The project is also intended to help and act as a motivation for the locals in conserving their heritage houses rather than giving up them for modern construction.

ACADEMICS | HOUSING IN MYLAPORE
The process of evolution is keen in partial demolition of the existing structures in the site for the maximum better utilization of the space without losing its character. The design evolves from a cluster of partially abandoned site to a aligned semi public forum and accommodation.

The existing inherited heritage along with the street scape is happily married with the new alignment in order to maintain the warmth of this historical regeneration. The tight circulation becomes generous open spaces by relocating the blocks to the voids of the frontage.

U TURN POLITICS POLITICAL RECREATION CENTRE
Political situation in Tamil Nadu has become more like a game which as very low health and economy but still it manages to survive with its administrative powers. There is an interesting, landmark change in TN that has happened in recent times, but still the confusion is on for the future of Tamil Nadu. The pace shift can either bring possibilities for other subservient parties to seek power (or) can entirely set a new dimension for Tamil Nadu politics. Why not the state with more than 60% of young population to set a youngest ministry? If so what can be the glitch for the glaze? These questions brought the idea of creating an Architectural element that can envision the future of the Indian Political system. The Architectural-political element witness to denoise the concept of politics in India and inculcate the larger perspective of Governance and policies.

MATTER - GOA - EXPERIENCE
Think Matter. is a content initiative that aims to celebrate the diversity and richness of ideas and practices that are quintessentially Indian and relate to challenges and opportunities that are presented by our context. Studio Matter. is a professional firm that aims to curate thoughtful, reflective, contemplative and sensitive work that is representative of contemporary practice in India. Goa such a calm green territory, satisfying ones wish to either live with contemporary needs or with the naturalistic approach. That was the place of mine during the architectural training. Intensively i got a role in the blue house (Matter) to make design, presentation, construction drawings, coordination, schedule and sequence of work, documentation and some times administration, data base building etc.,

PARIVARTAN
STUDENT HOSTEL , SWIAN, BIHAR
Parivartan Hostel Building is proposed for housing students of Parivartan ( Rural Education Center, Siwan, Narendrapur, Bihar ). Challenge to be accepted in this project is distance, Since the site is 1000 km ahead from our work place often site visits are not possible. The only way to communicate is drawings. Clean drawings with essential details can only expected to do well in the rural area. The site is 60 meters long and only 10 meters wide. The Building is expected to be a perfect long cuboid. The structure itself follows in equal grids throughout the building, That allowed even to make changes in the building even after the plinth is casted. The main design objective in the building is to throw varieties on its facades, It was a good clean long facade to articulate. The articulation worked well with twelve varieties of windows and three different types of composite windows. The role in this project is to design, develop and co-ordinate from the scratch to 90 % completion on the building.

THINKERING
WORKSHOP, ADAPTIVE REUSE
Thinkering Centre is a restoration of a Old Goan House into a Campus for creative learning. It is a quite large area about 24,000 sq.ft area in which the built up was about 2,500 sq.ft. The Idea of this proposal is to retain the old structure and install a mezzanine in steel to extend the area of the building. Since Old Goan houses are huge in volume and heights, it was a bit easier for the installation of mezzanine floor without building or extending the wall heights. It is typically installing a fabricated metal floor into a old big house. Where from outside the building is same in the volume but from inside the function is split into two levels. The Building is designed in such a way that it takes more live load and maintenance its self weight as low as possible. The role in this project is to Takeover, develop and co-ordinate till 70 % completion on the building.

HAMMER FITNESS INTERIOR DESIGN, CHENNAI
The very first Interior project with an experimental client with budget constrains is the better term to put on The Hammer Fitness. Its a project done in partnership where designing was my part of the project. Initially the space was little upset with the civil, since the low and uneven ceiling heights due to sunk slabs. To the maximum utilization of the ceiling gaps it was decided to add a MS punch metal sheet as false ceiling material only in the uneven ceiling gaps. The punch metal screen was illuminated above the punch metal panels bringing in diffused lighting. To aesthetically bring in a rugged as well as royal essence the material like punch metal screens, OST glassed with epoxy resin and thug wood painting are used.

AESTHETIC TIMBER TREATMENT
Wood always being a material of fascination the grains, surface, color and contrast. The idea is to articulate a column which eventually came in the middle of the living room during renovation of an old building. Using the yield tensile strength of the material timber is composed against the column creating a parabolic movement towards the ceiling. Continuous staking of the timber beadings creates a contiguous pattern resulting in forming a Timber Entabulature against the entire column.

STORY TELLING, BLANK SPACE
Who won’t like creating a stories? Especially when it comes to architecture! Blank space gave us (was working at matter) a chance to create our own story with no definite story line. The submission is a story with maximum of five graphical illustrations (that added a smile in my face) The story is “what if we build a very strong wall around lutyens Delhi and after several hundred decades explorers finding this fortified city. They wonder of the material used to build the giant wall and leaving them question how the fortified city would have got abandoned. Then there is a breach in the wall (That makes it obvious) how big or strong a boundary is a small breech can bleed into it.”
50
COMPETITION | KAIRALOORA
12
KAIRALOORA Out of interest, when wandering for some interesting work, MOAD (chennai) offered to work for a competition along with them. Kairaloora in a competition based on Africa. The notion of the competition is to build a recreational space for the locals using the contextual and available material around the space. The abundant material near that space was mostly bamboo, dry wood and mud. Taking advantage on the other available conventional material, crafted an space to bring in the people’s interest towards their culture and recreate in accordance with it.

VOLUNTARINESS
VOLUNTARINESS MOAD, TRIPLE O STUDIOS, FRAME
It was always fun to bring in new challenges and commitments after training at matter and Volunteering with MOAD, Triple O Studios gave in an opportunity to explore along with the studios interest in creating posters, maps etc., which eventually lead to conducting a Heritage Walk through Madras Inherited (Part of Triple O) for underprivileged kids organised by sahapedia. Frame, Another amazing event hosted by Matter, Goa in 2019. It was a call back by matter to join this time as volunteer for this big event. Such a knowledgeable experience . Rather than randomly jumping into a practice commitment thought of taking an unlearning period to explore myself and optimizing a practice where a long lasting commitment can work. Believing RVDA as one such space.
