An FRG is a Family Readiness Group. It is a command sponsored organization of spouses, family members, and volunteers that are involves with a unit. FRG's were established to provide activities and support to enhance the flow of information, increase the resiliency of unit soldiers and their families, provide practical tools for adjusting to military deployments and

separations, and enhance the well-being of the unit. The FRG‟s offer a variety of classes and workshops, „send off‟ and „welcome home‟ activities, meetings, and events. The FRG provides support and social outlets for family members, as well as offers learning and adjustment opportunities to spouses and family members who are new to the Army life.

How Can I Get Involved? There are many ways to get involved with our FRG. We hold meetings monthly to discuss future events, fundraising, and ideas that we can do. There are also many events on battalion and brigade level that family members are welcome to attend. During the deployment, we will be holding a pool party, Halloween party and fundraisers on company level. On battalion level, we will join with the other three companies to host a Christmas party and a huge party at the splash

park in Killeen. When it comes time for redeployment, we will be decorating the motor pool, company areas, and putting together „barracks baskets‟ for the single soldiers returning home. The FRG is always welcome to new ideas, so if you think of something you want to do, bring it up! We look forward to seeing you at our next event!

Redeployment Plans Redeployment is an exciting time for families! There are overwhelming feelings of joy and happiness. Families begin to make signs, order shirts, and prepare for their soldier to come home. I realize we are only into July, but I wanted to make the FRG aware of some future plans that we have. One of our biggest projects during the deployment is the „barracks baskets‟ project. This is where we collect donated items to make baskets for about 200 single soldiers from our Battalion returing to Fort Hood. This is so the soldiers living in the barracks have first day neccessities ready for them when they get home. Some items collected last deployment include gaterade, water bottles, snacks, towels, washcloths, toothbrushes, toothpaste, toilet paper, soap, and basic hygeine products. It takes a while to get all of these items collected and prepared, so its never too late to start! You will be notified later in the deployment when we are going to prepare and distribute the baskets. This is a great way to get involved! -Ashley Schoonover, BCO FRG Leader
