THE POWER OF TUNGSTEN
from APM - Catalogue 12
by APM Supplies
Research & development, and customer feedback.
Although all of the main soil-engaging edges are protected with tungsten and have enabled the point to retain its overall shape, aggressive soils have exposed secondary wear areas. This clearly shows the power of tungsten. We constantly work with farmers to see how we can best improve our wearing parts.

We need to angle the tungsten down so that it covers the whole depth of the wing, which will help protect the underside.
We also ensured that the tungsten was tightly embedded into the body of the point to prevent soil ingress and wear cutting in behind the tungsten.

Twice The Amount Of Tungsten Retaining Full Working Width

By adding twice the amount of tungsten two main advantages are immediately seen. The first is the extended life of the tine and secondly as the original points begins to wear you can clearly see that a hook wear pattern emerges, this hook will then gather trash whereas the Maxipart® version retains its original shape and trash flows through the drill.

Version 1
This looks good as we have tungsten on the leading nose and the strip between the nose and the shin, the shin and the wings. However there were still a couple of areas for improvement.

Final Version
Certain conditions have led to the shin narrowing and also wearing above the tungsten leading to excessive leg wear,
So this is what we have done. (1.) We have extended the tungsten to the top of the point. (2.) We have added hard facing to the secondary wear area behind the tungsten and then a further at the rear of the point. Both of these innovations together will mean far more extra acres out of the point as well as keeping your legs working for longer.
MXP v Original. Tines run side by side on the same drill in the same conditions, both have done exactly the same hectares.
For further features and benefits of the two points offered, see page 112.

Maxipart® Point 50mm Tungsten with Hard Facing

1. Deeply recessed bolt holes for extra protection.
2. Hard facing added to the side to further increase life
3. Slightly raised center tapering to edges t o help with soil flow. This has proved extremely popular in shallow cultivations
4. Three tungsten tiles configuration helping with penetration, but also giving a level profile in the cultivated ground.
