The Atlantic Festival, organised by the Regional Secretariat for Tourism, the Environment and Culture, through the Regional Tourism Board, celebrates the arrival of summer on Madeira and Porto Santo Islands, with fireworks and music.

In Praça do Povo, in Funchal, the summer sunsets complement the festival with a small market selling regional flavours. Visitors can enjoy the famous bolo do caco, poncha, craft beer, traditional sweets and cocktails, whilst enjoying the sunset by the sea. The relaxed atmosphere celebrates summer in the company of the radio, music performances and dance shows.

Madeira Photography Museum
The Madeira Photography Museum presents “Macaronesia 1975-2025”, an exhibition consisting of 146 photographs which portray 50 years of the political, social and cultural changes in Cape Verde, the Canary Islands, Madeira and the Azores.

Sixteenth Century Market (Mercado Quinhentista)

The Sixteenth Century Market, already in its 18th edition, is organised by the Machico Primary and Secondary School in collaboration with the Municipality of Machico. Taking place over three days, this event consists of recreating the collective activities of the 16th century in the noble villa of Machiquo, under the theme “Masters, Knowledge in the Hands”. This is also an opportunity to remember and praise the workers and craftsmen who, with their knowledge and mastery, made these Atlantic Islands a testament to the courage and determination of the Portuguese people.

International Fireworks Contest

The Madeira International Fireworks Competition comprises three pyromusical shows, which take place on the first three Saturdays of June and can be enjoyed along
the bay of Funchal, over 20 minutes. For this edition, pyrotechnic companies from three countries are competing: The United Kingdom, Belgium and Switzerland. The goal is for them to win the “Atlantic Trophy”, awarded by a jury, as well as the “Madeira Tão Tua Trophy”, awarded by the public. The votes can be placed in tombolas to be found in the Plaza Madeira shopping mall, at the Tourist Information Office in Avenida Arriaga and also at the Funchal pier, the night of the show.

Atlantic Nautical Festival

This event is aimed at recreational and competitive sailing, including sailing experiences for visitors and residents, mini regattas and cruises. This is an invitation to experience the sea, joining in the moments of conviviality and discovery, in the Atlantic setting of Madeira.

Opera at the Pico Pico Fortress 21:00
Discover a new cultural dimension in the stunning Pico Fortress, with the “Opera at the Pico” cycle. Four unmissable nights of music, excitement and fireworks under the stars, in a unique setting with an incredible view over the bay of Funchal. This special event, organised by the Regional Culture Board, celebrates opera in an original way, combining tradition and modernity to provide truly memorable moments.
Tickets can be acquired on site, at a price of 10 euros. By purchasing your ticket, you will also be directly supporting the Empress Sissy Cultural and Artistic Association.

Funchal Bay serves as the backdrop for this unique spectacle which promises to thrill and surprise.

A unique artistic experience with the Empress Sissy Association, which brings together music and dance in an unforgettable show.
