What are the new JB Docs? All about the IJB Team Structure

A message from our IJRs Useful links just for you!

After being approved by the Board of Trustees, the Junior Branch now has its own official documents. The two Info files are the J-01 & J-02. You can find them over at the resources section of the JB Library: http://intranet.cisv.org/ijb/JB%20Resources/Forms/AllItems.aspx

The J-01 talks about the Junior Branch Statement of Purpose, Essentials and Goals The J-02 defined a Junior Branch Event and talk about approval of IJB Events. What can you do with these documents at a local level? Why not try... - gathering with your JB and presenting the JB essentials to them to help them understand what are the core elements of who we are? - using the new JB goals to design your year plan? - presenting them to your chapter board highlighting the parts where It talks about the importance of JB making their own decisions but also the need for more cooperation within the chapter? - Do you have more suggestions? Tell us about what you do with them!

Did you know that the IJB Team is responsible in overseeing the growth and development of all Junior Branches in CISV International? The team is consisted of International Junior Representatives, JB representatives on the Standing Committees of CISV and Specialised members that focus solely on IJB/the IJB Team! Remember though, that the IJB Team is not a Committee of the CISV International Governing Board but has a similar direct reporting relationship to the Board. The Team is responsible for input to the Board on policy, standards, strategic development and monitoring CISV Junior Branches.

If you think you have what it takes to fill in the vacant position for Junior Branch Representative on the Resources and Infrastructure Committee write to ijr@cisv.org today! This position means that you would be a full member of the Resources and Infrastructure Committee, while representing the International Junior Branch Team. Applicants must have Junior Branch knowledge, expertise in the field of social media and experience with managing websites. In the application, please explain your motivation in joining the committee and IJB Team. It is hoped that this member will be available to participate in the committee meeting 28 February to 2 March 2014 in London, Great Britain.

Dear JBers from Asia Pacific, In the following, we’ll share some ways in which you can put the (new) Junior Branch Goals to use. We believe they should be at the heart of everything we do in Junior Branch, and that reading them every once in a while is a helpful method to stay “on track” while doing local, national and international Junior Branch work. We’re sure you want to look into other notes in this fabulous APJB Wave, so we’re going to keep it short and sweet. You can find the Junior Branch Goals in Info File J-01t on cisv.org/resources/resource-search which includes a short description of each goal.

Building a Junior Branch Community Don’t make age an issue! be able to run activities that are appropriate for different age, and make sure you don’t leave anyone outside. Age does not define who you are and amazing things can happen when young, old, parents, children join together. We are a Global Movement stay up to date! we have over 6000 active JBers from around 60 national JBs, so join the google group to receive e-mail updates (ijb.cisv.org/jbcommunity). You can also join us on the JB World group on Facebook. Here, you will find news from other JBs, ideas for activities, links to interesting material and lots of love and fun. Actively Develop Our Organisation Cooperate with your local board by developing a project together. You can exchange best practices on how to evaluate an event, run a minicamp for parents, invite them to a specific activity during a kids minicamp, or offer your time to staff a programme! Let’s start calling ourselves “JBers”, not “juniors”. Junior Branch is about involvement, ideas, impact, change. It is not about age and limits.

At CISV’s Annual International Meeting in July, a governing document for Junior Branch was approved which states: SECTION 4: JUNIOR BRANCH MEMBERS [From Info File J-01] A member of a Junior Branch is referred to as a ‘JBer’ and must be a member of CISV. Each National Junior Branch may choose how that JB is organised in the way it counts its members, in compliance with the NA’s local rules and regulations. The members of each Junior Branch should choose how it elects its leadership.

Each National Association or Promotional Association should nominate one or more persons to act as its official National Junior Representative (NJR). This person should be elected by the JB, in line with the essentials of self-governance. Junior Branch should be represented at all levels of the organisation. NA/PAs and local chapters must encourage the establishment of JBs and/or significant participation among their youth members.

Get ready for Branch Out in 2014! In 2014, the CISV’s annual educational content area is Diversity. International Junior Branch is developing a project which will contain activities you will be able to run with your local JBers. Stay tuned to ‘JB World’ on Facebook for more information!
