How SAP's S/4HANA Drove TasNetworks' Big Transformation
from ANZSAP Issue 01
Over 10 years ago Transend and Aurora merged to form TasNetworks. According to Ross Burridge, COO of TasNetworks, CFO at the time, it was clear that a fully integrated IT system would be key to a successful merger.
SAP’s S/4HANA was chosen to fulfil that role, following a long and complicated selection process, lasting almost a year.
The successful rollout was completed in two stages, commencing in 2016. S/4HANA is now woven throughout the business, providing a single ‘source of truth’ to guide complex logistical tasks.
The $10million transformation resulted in some impressive financial, logistical, and operational benefits, however this ground-breaking project was not without challenges. These included maintaining business-wide integration; which required banning customisation; and consistently promoting utilisation of the full functionality available.
With many lessons learned from the successful rollout TasNetworks embarked on its first major upgrade in 2023, moving from on-premise to the cloud and refocusing efficiency and how staff interact with the package.
