There has been significant interest in the formation of a new Chapter in Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation (VSMR). Veterinary sports medicine and rehabilitation is defined as a multidisciplinary speciality that encompasses the in depth physical and clinical examination, diagnosis, treatment and prevention of sport and work-related injuries/disorders and rehabilitation of animals’ health. Speciality colleges in Europe and North America exist in Veterinary Sports Medicine and Rehabilitation. Several College Members and Fellows are VSMR Diplomates.

A survey sent out in the first quarter of the year identified strong support in both canine and equine subjects in this field with a total of 127 people indicating they would like to complete Membership examinations in this subject (Figure 1). Work is ongoing to progress towards Chapter approval and commence the process of development of Membership examinations. At this time, the focus of the Chapter will be on Membership examinations. Any VSMR diplomates that are interested in becoming foundation Members of the Chapter are encouraged to contact the College for more information.
