Soak Cordura Brochure Release 1.2 December 2009

Soak Cordura Visual Variants

Key Attributes Anutone premieres the all-new Soak Cordura for 2010 and beyond ... bringing Size Zero in fabric-wrapped panels to interior spaces! Panels can be as slim as 10mm and hung on walls to be accessed at any point. No longer do Soak panels need to W NE be bulky and be accessed from one corner onwards. Soak Cordura features corded non-wovens that offer contemporary colours for classy interiors and brings • productivity and privacy of modern workplaces • demanding performance of special venues like auditoria Added feature is high impact resistance, making Soak Cordura rugged and durable for any interior use.

Typical Applications Soak Cordura is used for wall panellings and combo partitions in architectural spaces listed below. See page 7 for details. -

office conference rooms, meeting rooms auditoria cinema multiplexes classrooms & libraries hotel banquet halls & corridors studios home theatres

The visual variants of Soak Cordura are realised from orientation of the fabric colours. The fabric colours can be installed in singles or double combos - pastels, darks or contrasts. Current standard fabric colours include: (See page 4) • Calypso • Skye • Porcelain • Simba • Spearmint • Sanz • Blaze • Lime • Wasabi • Avocado • Jade • Myst

Design Considerations •

The longer edges of the panels can be oriented horizontally or vertically to make a space look visually longer or taller.

Indicated panel thickness is for base panel only. 3 mm of fabric thickness and 5 mm of Z-Clip or H-Spline system should be added to overall Soak thickness. Hence, 10 mm panel means 18 mm system thickness post-install. For true 10mm only go for Slim PNS or Slim Compo!

Panels should not touch the floor but rest on Sonator wooden skirting which may be repeated at the wall-ceiling junction.

Panels must be fitted in modules that are dimensioned in multiples of 600mm to avoid field cutting.

Aesthetics Fabric walls with neat panel joint lines, vertically and horizontally, for a true panel effect. The edge profile is pencil radius due to the fabric lamination. Soak Cordura features the ‘ribbed’ look.

Technical Variants Variants by Substrates Anutone's unique AcoustCombi™ technology, variable sound absorption, is realised from substrate variants • Soak Strand Cordura – base panel natural surface for mid and high frequency sound absorption for all applications • Soak Burl Cordura – blinded surface suitable for lowfrequency sound absorption and high-frequency sound reflection for for variable acoustics and extended bass response in banquet halls, auditoria, cinema, studios, home theatres etc The AcoustCombi technology works very well with Size Zero panels of Soak Cordura.

Variants by Core (does not apply to Size Zero) For Noise Isolation, technical variants are realised from the core material - the Soak Septum Series – •

Soak Septum Cordura

Soak Septum T1/T2/T3 Cordura

in all applications where sound absorption and noise isolation is required, especially offices, studios, home theatres etc Variants by Density (does not apply to Size Zero) Anutone's unique VDH technology - Variable Density Hybrid - is available in Soak Cordura. This allows for space-saving A-mounting of panels but with AutoAir - an automatic airgap for an acoustic infill of Synth for additional sound absorption. Panel size is restricted to 600x1200x25mm on H-Spline only. Applications include offices, home theatres where more sound absorption than that provided by regular A-mounted Soak Strand Cordura is needed. Now Size Zero makes VDH and AutoAir redundant in certain application. Strut CC10 with Synth 10x10 provides a slim backer to Soak Cordura 10 & 15mm thick panels.

Soak Cordura - 20mm thick kerfed edges joined with JEH Spline, mounted on Strut CC25

Site Considerations •

Cartons of Soak Cordura must be stored on a flat, dry surface.

They must not come in contact with water.

Wall surfaces must be devoid of moisture prior to installation.

The final act of panel installation must be performed only when all other works are completed and site has attained occupancy conditions in terms of room temperature and humidity.

Trained and skilled technicians must install Soak Cordura. ‘Soft’ and ‘clean’ handling is a must. 10 & 15mm thick panels are fragile and require very careful handling.

For wall edges and corners where cut panels are required, the fabric can be peeled back and cut to size, the base panel cut to size and fabric bonded again with rubber-based adhesives.

Panels can be nylon brushed and/or vacuumed post-installation.

Applied Acoustics Anutone’s Selec programme makes it easy for architects, consultants, contractors and clients to apply Soak Cordura to architectural spaces. System selection of Soak Cordura is suitable for but not limited to the following spaces.

Installation Guidelines - 20mm on H-Spline

STEP 1 & STEP 2 Mark location of each panel on wall for Amounting (or on Strut CC10/22/50 for C or Dtype mounting), to determine panel usage, position and inside/outside corner details. Install Sonator wooden skirting at base of wall for panel support. Make sure it is level. Height of skirting depends on architectural requirements, usually 150 mm.

STEP 3 & STEP 4 Position first panel, using level to assure plumb. Insert first H-spline section into groove on panel long edge and against wall. Start at top of panel. Spline should be suitably attached to the wall so that it is firmly in place. Add splines down to rest of the panel till the Sonator wooden skirting, making sure plumb is maintained. STEP 5 Position next panel on wall and slide it against first H-spline until they fully engage in the groove. Fix Hspline to opposite edge groove and to wall as done with first panel. Continue procedure along wall length, checking plumb of each panel. NOTE : If a cut Soak Cordura panel is needed to fill inside corner, do not fasten the last row of H-splines to wall. STEP 6 Measure space from last panel to corner at top, middle and bottom of area. Transfer these measurements to the face of the panel. Place panel, fabric side up, on smooth and clean surface and using hand or power saw, cut through fabric and panel so that cut edge is the edge that will fit in the corner.

8

STEP 7 Apply adhesive to back of last full panel along open H-spline that will be used in that edge, (See B), and to back of cut panel, (See C). Insert the last attached H-spline. Insert Hspline with adhesive into other groove of last full panel. Insert groove of cut panel into the H-spline and insert cut edge into corner. Then apply pressure at joint between panel (See D), until contact is made with the wall. Hold until adhesive sets. Secure cut corner panel to wall with four finishing nails along outside edge of panel at corner. Space them evenly and drive at 450 angle. A new, full panel should be used as the first panel after the corner (See E). Butt it against front of cut corner panel after putting adhesive along the length of the panel’s thick edge. Continue down this wall (Steps #1 through #5). STEP 8 Measure space from last full panel to corner at top, middle and bottom. Add 50mm, to these measurements. Transcribe these measurements to face of panel to be cut. Place panel, fabric side up, on smooth and clean surface, using hand or power saw, cut through the fabric and panel along the marked line. STEP 9 Gently peel fabric back 75mm from cut edges of both panel pieces. Draw a line on the Soak Cordura panels of both pieces 50mm back from the cut edge, and parallel to the cut edge along the length of the panel. STEP 10 Making sure the fabric is folded back out of the way, cut off this 50mm wide strip of the base panel on both pieces. Remove any loose fibres that may remain.

STEP 11 On one piece, apply hot melt glue to the panel along the 25mm wide exposed top where the material was peeled back, along the cut edge, and along a 25mm wide strip on the back next to the cut edge. Wrap fabric back over face, around edge, and over back so it adheres, stretch tight, eliminating any folds or creases. Repeat procedure with other panel piece. STEP 12 On panel cut to fit corner width, apply adhesive to Soak Cordura panel along the length of the panel, just beyond fabric along the cut edge. Place panel on wall and slip it into the last installed H-spline. Hold until adhesive sets. STEP 13 Apply adhesive in same manner to other panel piece. Position it on wall around corner so it completely overlaps end of other corner panel. Slip H-spline into the groove in the opposite edge and continue downward in the same manner as previously.

H-Spline System

Maintenance Soak Cordura range of products are extremely durable and require little attention to maintain their good looks. Light vacuuming on a regular basis will prevent dust build up and most marks can be cleaned with a mild detergent solution followed by rinsing and blotting. Stains should be dealt with according to the chart below. •

Before carrying out a proposed cleaning method, apply to a concealed section to ensure it will not affect the adhesive or wall covering Avoid severe abrasion Vacuum to restore pile, but do not use a stiff brush.

• •

Note: Anutone does not recommend solvent based cleaners on Soak Cordura

More on Size Zero in Soak Cordura

Size Zero is the current fad. Everybody wants it slim, superslim! After Size Zero laptops, smartphones, televisions and ramp models, comes the ultra-slim, ultrachic Soak series of fabric-wrapped wall panels. Soak Cordura earlier had a limitation of minimum thickness, 20mm. This was due to kerfed long edges to receive HSpline. This also resulted in a site problem of panels being able to be dismantled from one corner only. Now to meet the demand from designers for space-saving slimmer panels, Anutone has innovated to result in 10mm thick panels that can be hung on walls and more importantly dismantled from any point. Also all edges are fully finished so panels can be installed discretely as floating islands!
