Scientists Garcia de Orta (or Garcia d'Orta) (1501 – 1568) was a Portuguese Renaissance Sephardi Jewish physician, herbalist and naturalist. He was a pioneer of tropical medicine, and etnhobotany, working mainly in Goa, a Portuguese colony in India.
