Port Washington Board Of Education 2016–17 The Port Washington Board of Education conducted its annual reorganization meeting in the Paul D. Schreiber High School library on July 5. Board of Education President Karen Sloan was sworn in to a new threeyear term and was also reappointed by the board to continue serving as its president. Vice President Nora Johnson was also reappointed and sworn in to continue serving as vice president. Trustees Emily Beys and Christina Nadolne were also sworn in; Beys to a new three-year term and Nadolne to fill an open seat that will expire next June. Superintendent of Schools Dr. Kathleen Mooney was also sworn in as part of the annual reorganization.

COLLEGE NEWS Graduations Karla Calderon graduated from Buffalo State with a Bachelor of Science in criminal justice. Matthew Cacioppo graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in business economics; Daniel DoughertySamowitz graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in business economics; Cole Youmans graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in communication studies from SUNY Oneonta. Sydney Ann Fernandez was awarded a Bachelor of Science degree in elementary education/pre K-4, magna cum laude, from Kutztown University. Kathleen Mairead Devine received a Bachelor of Science degree, cum laude, from Washington and Lee University on May 26. Devine majored in accounting and business administration. Stacy Schepsman graduated from Farmingdale State College. Andrew Boehm graduated from Union College with a Bachelor of Science degree in psychology. Caleb Jenkinson graduated with a Bachelor of Science in business administration and Alexander Kreichman
graduated with a Bachelor of Arts in English from the University of Vermont. Alec Hazan graduated from Tulane University’s Freeman School of Business with a Bachelor of Science in management. Ethan Weber graduated from Tulane University’s School of Liberal Arts with a Bachelor of Science degree. Kalia Lay earned a Bachelor of Arts in theatre arts and Kevin Nardone earned a Bachelor of Science in finance from SUNY New Paltz.
Dean’s List The following students were named to the Hofstra University Spring 2016 Dean’s List: Matthew Canigiani, Sydney Goldstein, David Olsson, Leah Sax and Michael Weiss. Students must earn a GPA of at least 3.5 during the semester to make the Dean’s List. Jake M. Arlow (sophomore, biology) was named to the Scholastic Honor Roll in the spring term at Oregon State University. To be on the honor roll, students must carry at least 12-graded hours of course work. Kelly Nardone earned Faculty Honors for spring 2016 at the Georgia Institute of Technology. This designation is awarded to undergraduate students who have a 4.0 academic average for the semester.
The following students were named to the University at Albany’s spring 2016 Dean’s List: Shun Akai, Daniel Chu, Alexander Comerford, James Heinlein, Robert O’Lansen and Ayman Salloum. Yixuan Cao earned Dean’s Commendation for part-time students at the University at Albany.
Eric Joseph Schissel, majoring in parks, recreation and tourism management, was named to the President’s List at Clemson University for the spring 2016 semester. To be named to the President’s List, a student must achieve a 4.0 GPA. Jessica Rachel Box was named to the University of Connecticut spring 2016 Dean’s List. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science in animal science. The following students were named to the Farmingdale State College spring 2016 Dean’s List and President’s List: Manuel Barrera, Joseph Gil, Merve Koksal and Simona Kordova. Arthur Baker earned All-Academic Team Honors from SUNY Oneonta. Baker was one of 82 SUNY Oneonta student-athletes named to the State University of New York Athletic Conference All-Academic Team for the spring. Christina Commons was named to the Hofstra University spring 2016 Provost’s List, which recognizes students who have earned a perfect 4.0 GPA. Kristen Henne, daughter of Craig and Henne, was named to the spring 2016 Dean’s List at the Fulton School of Liberal Arts at Salisbury University.
