An exceptional squash necklace by Albert and Dolly Banteah made of six medallions inlaid with blue jay, hummingbird, heron, redwing blackbird, roadrunner and woodpecker birds sold for $1,320. Another squash blossom necklace by Loren Thomas Begay with an initialized pendant featuring a running horse brought $688. Also selling for $688 was an American Indian necklace by Raymon Quam (Zuni, 1938-71). Additional highlights included a Zuni inlaid character buckle by Carol Kee. The buckle featuring Yosemite Sam was made of turquoise, jet, coral and mother of pearl and sold for $2,625 against a

presale estimate of $200$400. An American Indian figural silver ring with a Yei dancer, also with turquoise, coral, jet, and mother of pearl, sold for $210. Garth’s Country Americana Auction brought bidders and many new faces into Garth’s historic barn the next day with over 600 lots of painted furniture, folk art and textiles. The spirited bidding started with an important circa 1850 American quilt featuring a Zachary Taylor printed backing in “Carolina Lily”. The quilt was made of striking colors including red, green, and white alternating with solid blue blocks. The backing of the quilt featured a repeated print of General Taylor at the Battle of Resaca de la Palma during the Mexican War. Taylor is depicted astride his horse,
