Our research and development department utilizes today’s most sophisticated technology to ensure quality material composition and precision measurements. Antigua insists on selecting the most suitable materials for each instrument ranging from Pisoni pads to temper-blued needle springs. Documented work procedures and employee training help to build a core staff of highly skilled artisans, capable of producing some of the highest quality instruments on the market today. In celebration of our 20th anniversary, Antigua is proud to announce the launch of the AntiguaBackun wooden clarinet. The creation of this instrument has been a joint project between Antigua Winds and renowned woodwind designer, Morrie Backun. This clarinet starts with premium grade grenadilla wood, properly aged in controlled settings. It is within the Backun facility in Vancouver, Canada that the wood is turned, bored and machined to exacting tolerances using the most advanced machinery and
skilled personnel. These bodies, bells and barrels then undergo careful hand-finishing work and inspection by Backun technicians. The finished wooden bodies then travel to Antigua’s state of the art facility where precision manufacturing technology is used to produce the keys. Skilled artisans hand fit posts, rings, rods, springs, and keys to ensure that each instrument performs optimally. Black Valentino pads provide perfect seal, creating a clarinet that stands up to today’s demands and will meet tomorrow’s expectations.
