In today’s world which is chaotic there is a dire need to maintain well balanced interpersonal relationships. And emotionally intelligent people do exactly that! Now, what is emotional intelligence?

It’s grace under pressure. Emotionally intelligent people treat others and themselves with respect under adverse situations. Calm, cool and collected is their motto. Under any circumstances they are able to maintain a high level of interpersonal relationships. How to become emotionally intelligent?

1) BE SELF AWARE: Be fully aware how your emotions and actions will impact other’s thoughts and behavior. You must observe yourself closely.

2) MAINTAIN EMOTIONAL REGULATION: You must manage your emotions calmly in challenging situations. Don’t encourage excitement.

3) BE SELF MOTIVATED: You mustn’t depend on others / situations to motivate you. Have your values in place and goals chalked out.

4) EMPATHY: You must detect other’s feelings and act accordingly in order to make others feel better. Reading other people’s emotions is important.

5) SOCIAL SKILLS: The relationships they maintain with others are strong.

6) SELF CONFIDENCE: You must trust your own abilities and be assured of your own capabilities.

7) RESILIENCE: You need to develop a strong mindset to be able to bounce back from adversities and continue to maintain a positive outlook. To remember that good follows the bad is important.

8) FLEXIBILITY: To be able to adapt to new changes and environment effectively is to be emotionally intelligent.

9) GOOD JUDGEMENT: Smart decisions must be taken considering people and situations. Decision making plays a vital role in our lives.

10) NO EXTERNAL VALIDATION: Be your own biggest supporter. And you will need no external validations.

There is ample scope for improvement. We always learn from our experiences and learn we must so that the world becomes a better place for us all.
