To whom may it concern Thank you for your time in perusal of this application for my interest in the role, for Designer (NY).

I am an architectural design graduate and assistant currently employed at Warren and Mahoney Architects in Auckland, New Zealand. My current roles involves mainly stages of conceptual design and feasibility, primarily responsibility for deliverables in the firm’s submissions and competition team.

With the event of covid-19 pandemic, this role has evolved and challenged me to become a vital role in the firm’s navigation in the changing economy and our performance in the industry.

Our work is competitive and no doubt challenging.

However, it is extremely rewarding both for the wider team and for myself personally. I am given opportunity to drive submissions, ‘chase’ work and curate competition bid documents with guidance from principles. I adhere well to different teams, inserting design direction and refine creative workflows that enable better design outcomes, consistency and communication; adaptive to surrounding conditions.

Asides from submissions and competitions, I have participated in all phases of design from early feasibility, concept, developed and detailed design across a diverse portfolio of work, namely with most interest in hotel, retail and hospitality which I will share within this portfolio.* Other project involvement include commercial mixed-use, residential, entertainment and government, and in my previous employment interiors, high-end residential and boutique retail.

With an interest in growing skillset in client and consultant engagement. I have an immense interest in both architecture and interior design combined with the business strategic curation of brand, marketing and proposal co-ordination.

Sunken lounge that situates itself in relation to the horizon of the landscape the visitor steps down into, becoming Corner rooms, including those an invitation to become part of the land supported by the warmth from selected palette of materials and finishes

adjacent to the central landscaped access to the lake, have sliding windows and more generous balconies. All hotel rooms feature integrated exterior landscaping, providing greater privacy and a direct connection with natural New Zealand. All exterior materials are natural and tactile. Exterior aluminium and painting is avoided to reduce maintenance and enhance the sense of authentic experience.

The stacking of floor plates provides protected overhangs, allowing guests to enjoy exterior spaces throughout the year. Low energy radiant heating panels are built into soffits to provide for comfort in colder months.

I created the primary narrative for the team the structure resembling the rock stack, a humble and common phenomenon within the lakeside of queenstown, often made by farm boys or on hike tracks by local hikers to mark the path of correct direction, allowing fellow travelers to follow and not lose way

in latter years working in submissions for Warren and Mahoney my involvement established a new stream of work for in office, directly involved in five successful bid chases for Australian developer Tim Gurner. my role created a new language and way of interacting with clients in particular with focus on product and craft. with emphasis on branding and creating an identity for his work.* the following winning bid for One Wellington, St Kilda is an apartment and luxury serviced hotel. the winning bid led to further work chased with the developer, consequetive wins to follow. as result of our Melborune market now 7o% Gurner projects.

working in the submissions team requires high energy and streamlined workflows, and our team doubles up as office skill share ‘gurus’. the rigorous environment undergone during the competing phases often result in new workflows for the rest of the firm. the following is one of my internal projects, to design a template for design initiation and internal reviews. a design document that enable interactions to be facilitated, recorded and assessed between project teams with their principle or relevant phase technician. other projects in this internal team consists of project-specific and office wide skill share strategies, I lead workshops and mentoring series as well as taking ownership in a specific set of workflows recorded in video tutorials shared on the office intranet streaming services and a sharing platform. on-going role.

my extensive involvement in submission team which involved fast-paced work with high turnover, led me to find many oppotunities to take part in projects of other typologies. what I was especially interested in, was how to extend my skill set into other phases of design as well as offer a unique insight upon branding and interior strategies. station hotel is a heritage building, given new life through a client’s refreshing take on a boutique hotel with a narrative emcompassing the nature of the heritage building’s past life. dressed in the client’s inhouse brand of ‘Ava’ the personification of the fable brand; an imaginative, ornate and luxurous character.

utilising the Enscape and virtual reality skillset I developed, my role in this project embodied not only fitout, design developement and visualization - but rather the client was very excited by the opportunities of VR. I curated 360o journeys through all the hotel amenity and room types from suite, keys to specials for client future marketing purposes.

A key winning piece in this bid is the wayfinding, as well as brand and clarity in delivery strategies as well as staging. The team won over the client securing another project following the long stream of wins from Sky City Entertainment.

COMPETITION NARRATIVE A cultural narrative Earth to Sky, drawing upon the indigenous mythology of Rangi and Papa. According to the Maori people of New Zealand, Rangi is the Sky Father and his wife Mother Earth, Papa. At the beginning of time before the creation of everything, Rangi and Papa were always together as one.

The project seeks a unique New Zealand identity and in turn also desired change to the way gaming is dealt.

previous work in high end residential student work and awards “...sensibility in material selection as well as a clarity in mass and void. in the world of the speculative built we can begin to imagine the intricacies of the everyday flâneur ...where does she reside?”

w. the beginnings of my career in architecture began at a local firm based in Parnell, Auckland: Fearon Hay Architects where I worked full time over summers and study breaks as well part-time during my academic endeavours. a range of experience achieved throughout all stages of design phases and mixed typologies of high end residential to interior retail fitouts, as well as smaller scale urban revitalization projects my final year student thesis work received the recognition of a first class honors as well as runner-up in the national end of year student awards. as well as previous recognition as supreme winner in the Interior Awards (Student winner 2018) and a Bronze in the Best Awards.
