Production



Like we have concluded from the historical development, very little energy is actually harvested within the Amsterdam Metropolitan Area. The largest share of energy production in the Netherlands comes from natural gas and is centered in the province of Groningen and the North Sea. Gas covers 84% of our total energy harvest [EBN, 2017] and is a large economic driver. Although the harvest of energy in the AMA stays limited to a small share of renewables, the area does have a few large powerplants that produce electricity from the gas and several other resources. From these, gas, oil and renewable energy is harvested in the Netherlands itself. The rest of the resources that are being used for the production of energy are imported. This makes the country dependent on others, mostly when it comes to oil but also still coals.






