ROLE Master Plan design [Illustrator] SUMMARY Our vision for the study area is summarized in the triptych of economic development, social cohesion and environmental protection, highlighting the basic idea that “Earth produces energy - from lignite to renewables “. The more specific objectives for the area are: - To create a productive landscape of alternative forms of energy, exploiting the natural resources of the earth, in order to act as a pilot for the region. - To enhance soil fertility and indigenous flora and fauna in order to restore the natural ecosystem balance. - To link local agricultural production with the proposed energy crops. - To maintain the memory of the mining landscape and its relation to lignite In this context, the region is spatially organized into the following zones: A. The Linear Theme Park, demonstrating the various landscape types associated with lignite and renewables. B. The Restoration zone C. The agricultural sector zone devoted exclusively to energy crops.

ROLE Landscape design: concept & detailing (together with LandmArch.), Presentation [Autocad, Photoshop, InDesign]. SUMMARY The proposal for the regeneration & redevelopment of the former military base of Loumaki in Karditsa[GR] aims to create a new green landmark for the city and a destination point for residents and visitors. The new urban park introduces new uses and gives a developmental perspective to the region, while it stimulates social ties and offers new experiences to the users. The design proposal respects the landscape’s identity of the area, including local flora and fauna. It introduces spaces for culture and recreation and offers architectural, environmental and bioclimatic upgrading of the surrounding area. The Loumaki Park is located at the edge of the city in the immediate vicinity of access to the most important attraction points and natural landscapes in the wider region. Therefore it becomes a transitional green zone that connects the city of Karditsa with its countryside.

ROLE Architectural design (together with LandmArch.), Presentation [Autocad, Photoshop, InDesign] SUMMARY The aim of the proposal is the design of a contemporary, functional and bioclimatic public building which accommodates the West Attica Region Headquarters, in Elefsina [GR]. The new complex upgrades the urban landscape of the area while reflecting its multi-dimensional history. The building is located on an important urban node, within a network of other significant public spaces in the city of Elefsina and becomes its new landmark. The lack of open, green spaces in the surrounding area, dictates the need to introduce a new, high - quality open public space which will be accessible to all the residents. The structure of the building consists of cylindrical concrete walls, which adopt the vocabulary of Elefsina’s industrial landscape. The proposal aims to achieve the highest possible autonomy in terms of energy consumption through the addition of the green roof, Building - Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) on the south facade and various other techniques.

Spyrou), preparation of final drawings (maps, site plan and aerial diagrammatic view) [illustrator & photoshop] SUMMARY The site is located on the sensitive intersection between the natural river zone and the new urban development zone. The design of the museum carries this transition from the city to the natural environment through the narration of the history of Cyprus. A new passage is created through the core of the Museum, which connects the existing landscape zone with the open spaces of the New Museum and the existing Archaeological Museum as well as the rest of the Cultural orridor of Nicosia. The water elements are placed along important urban axes, which lead to the focal points of the Museum. The passage unifies the green and cultural zones, while creating a pleasant microclimate in the heart of the Museum. Near the river, the use of water, green areas and ceramic stabilised organic paving creates a gradient from the urban main entrance plaza to the soft natural landscape zone. The Museological experience is guided through the structure of the building, creating a new Cultural focal point in the heart of the city. The bioclimatic design of the building creates a sustainable and pleasant environment through the warm periods of the year. The historical building is integrated in the landscaping paths and vistas, while it forms an interesting dialogue between old and new.

YEAR august 2016 TEAM felixx landscape architects & planners ROLE visualisation [photoshop] SUMMARY Rijnvliet is a new residential area in Utrecht. It is part of the Leidsche Rijn expansion area which consists of 1000 new dwellings. Felixx designed the area’s public space as an edible, educative landscape. The layout is based on the principles of food forestry and was developed in collaboration with residents and other specialists. The various distinct areas of the masterplan are organized through layers of plants, such as the Canopy layer (of original and planted large trees), the Low tree layer, the Shrub layer (of fruit and berry bushes), the Herb layer (of multiannual vegetables and herbs), the Soil cover layer (a layer of plants which spread horizontally), the Underground layer (of plants which produce roots) and the Climbers layer (a vertical layer of climbing plants). Those layers function together and form an integrated ecosystem. The central part of the neighborhood combines all these layers. The adjoining areas focus on one or more of the layers, thus establishing a distinctive character. Maintenance of the food forest will be done by the local residents, supervised by a forester.

TYPE professional team project YEAR august 2016 TEAM felixx landscape architects & planners ROLE Plan drawing [Illustrator] SUMMARY The changed territorial boundaries allow Fier to improve its relation to the sea. The control model is based on the introduction of measures and structures to control the processes that might influence or change the current coast line. The adaptation model is based on flexible developments and is able to cope with ongoing processes, adapting to future transformations. The choice between these models should be made depending on the source of erosion or transformation, and the economic potential to respond to it. Moreover, it is possible to shift from an adaptation model towards a control model during time, when economic potential increases.

TYPE professional team project YEAR august 2016 TEAM felixx landscape architects & planners ROLE Plan drawing [Illustrator] SUMMARY The Lumi Shkumbin River has a great potential to become the identity carrier for the city of Elbasan and the whole region. The city of Elbasan is located along the river and surrounded by mountains. Future strategies should embrace and strenghten the relationship between Elbasan and the existing landscape qualities. Elbasan is facing serious water problems. The aim is not just solving flood problems by creating space along the river but also turning the water infrastructure into a qualitative identity carrier of the city. For solving the water problems we propose two basic strategies: adaption and control. On the one hand some areas can be protected by adaptive strategies. Also new functions and program can be added. On the other hand some vulnerable spots should be controled and improved by certain measures.

This thesis is a proposal for the regeneration of the most neglected part of Belgrade, its central riverfront. The aim of the design is to highlight the waterfront’s potential, while reconnecting it with the city through the use of green spaces (existing and new). One of the main obstacles towards the future development of the city of Belgrade in spatial terms, is the city’s lack of effective connection with its riverfront. This disconnection is related to the city’s historical and spatial development and presents itself in different forms (geomorphology, infrastructural physical barriers, accessibility, ownership etc.). Five connecting strategies were applied into the design of the waterfront’s master plan, as well as into the design of the 3 selected areas (the industrial port, the touristic harbor and the marina in Dorcol). The proposal integrates elements from the past of the site into the future plans of development for this area, in a subtle way. The new design combines the preservation of characteristic elements found in the industrial and urban landscape of Belgrade’s riverfront with the new interventions which connect it with the city. The proposal is based on the ecological theory of green infrastructure and green corridors. The application of the above concepts in the territory of Belgrade’s former industrial waterfront improves its accessibility and public use, while on the same time, provides the ecological link which is currently missing.

AGRICULTURAL PROGRAM FARM NETWORK

SUPERVISORS supervisors: I. Bobbink, D. Piccinini SUMMARY The Zoetermeersche polder used to be a lake, so the existing dike was constructed around it. Today the old trace of the lake’s border is not clearly visible on the site and the ring road which goes around the polder and along the ring canal is not continuous. The creation of a circular recreational space in the area between the existing dike and the trace of the old lake border will make this trace visible. Furthermore, the restored continuity of the round (cycling) path, will allow the visitors to have access to all of its perimeter and to have a more accurate perception of its shape. The farms are located mainly on the perimetrical slopes, between the existing border of the polder and the former border of the lake. This new circular recreational landscape connects the existing farms along the ring dike. The private areas of the farms will form a network where the visitors can experience, understand and participate in activities related to agriculture in the form of recreation. The different kinds of new recreational spaces on the path (points) emphasize different aspects of this specific polder landscape.

SUPERVISOR S. de Wit SUMMARY The design is focused in the positioning and design of an experimental contemporary villa in the dramatic landscape of a limestone quarry: an ensemble of a house and garden. The ensemble is sited strategically, and engages with the particular qualities of the landscape, while the design is used as a basis for the investigation of the hidden qualities of the landscape. The existence of limestone in the soil of the area has led to enormous mining (underground as well as above the ground). This process formed a complex network of underground corridors and craters with steep walls. At the moment part of the quarry which is still in use, has been transformed into a nature reserve and it is open to visitors on the weekends. Furthermore, the limestone is full of fossil remains of sea creatures. Therefore, the east side of the quarry wall is transformed into an exhibition space for fossils which are found in the limestone. The exhibition rooms take the form of holes inside the limestone wall. In that way, they “remain” in their natural environment where they were discovered in.

THIS ELEMENT SYMBOLIZES THE TRANSITIONAL CHARACTER OF THIS PART OF THE QUARRY, A FOREST WHICH REFERS TO THE NATURAL CHARACTER OF THE ABANDONED QUARRY AND A GRID WHICH REFERS TO THE ARTIFICIAL CHARACTER OF THE BARE EXTRACTION GROUND OF THE NEW QUARRY. 10. Vaiou SUMMARY In the area of Tavros in Athens, a part of the block 52 was chosen for the development of a housing complex which consists of 81 apartments and other residential services. The location is close to the center of the area and preserves the social quality of a ‘neighborhood’. It remains surrounded by green areas (a rare quality for residential areas in the center of Athens), which belong to the few social housing blocks that were constructed in various periods (for immigrants or low – income beneficiaries). Furthermore, the site includes (and is surrounded) by listed industrial buildings. The study area is a mix of different housing types from various periods, as well as several incompatible uses. The proposal focuses on substituting the incompatible uses with the new housing complex. The listed industrial monuments become part of the this residential addition by accommodating cultural or educational uses. Th aim of the design is to connect the existing residential buildings with each other through the common use of their public open spaces, so that the block can finally form an entity and function as a whole. The proposal optimizes the integration of the new housing complex into a neighborhood which has traditionally supported the development of social housing and encourages the development of this type of housing in the future in the form of a fill - in strategy. It is believed that the development of collective housing blocks in the form of a fill - in strategy - wherever this is possible - could provide a solution for the population which lives in the densely built areas of the city and provide them with the quality of the natural (as well as the social) environment that is missing.
