BREATHE WITH ME
AN IMMERSIVE INSTALLATION OF SWISS DESIGN FOR WELL-BEING
A MULTI-SENSORY INSTALLATION FOR CALM + COMMUNITY
BREATHE WITH ME is a multi-dimensional, high-sensory installation designed to foster well-being and connection through immersive spatial experiences.
DEBUT + EVOLUTION
Originally commissioned by the Consulate General of Switzerland for NYCxDESIGN 2024 and showcased at WSANY in Downtown Manhattan, the installation blends soundscapes by Swiss musician Luc Oggier with interactive elements that explore the intersection of art, design, and wellness. Following its success, the project has traveled internationally, including presentations at Barcelona Design Week and the Swiss Embassy’s Swiss Days in Tashkent.
DESIGN + CONCEPT
The installation reimagines the concept of presence, inviting visitors into a cocoon-like environment. Soft, tactile fabrics inflate and deflate in rhythm with low-frequency soundscapes that mirror the human heartbeat. These dynamic motions create a transformative space where visitors can pause, reflect, and reconnect with their senses.
The installation serves as a canvas for cultural dialogue and community engagement. The programming includes sound baths, breathing workshops, meditative sessions, and intimate performances, offering participants an opportunity to engage with well-being through curated sensory experiences.
A PORTAL BETWEEN MIND + BODY
The installation’s interplay of light, sound, and motion transforms the space into a living, breathing entity. By offering moments of safety, joy, and tranquility, it challenges overstimulated, hyper-visual environments, guiding visitors back to the grounding beauty of physical presence.
The installation carried a globally unifying message: The urgent need to address the health of the planet and humanity. It explored the future of living in times marked by instability, overstimulation, and the loneliness epidemic.

Embracing tranquility: environments crafted to inspire presence and alleviate stress.
Through its thoughtful design and impactful programming, BREATHE WITH ME not only enhances well-being but also redefines how spaces can inspire connection, mindfulness, and a deeper awareness of ourselves and our surroundings.
BREATHE WITH ME stands for designing for Balance: Creating spaces that inspire tranquility, foster connection, and support mental well-being in a fast-paced world.
BARCELONA DESIGN WEEK: SOFT ACTION
To foster the local dialogue in Barcelona, Annabelle teamed up with the initiative titled SOFT ACTION. Born out of a collaboration between VASTO and NAKED SPACE, SOFT ACTION is designed as an air-powered, modular system made from recyclable PVC tarpaulin in order to configure into various spatial formats for multiple interactive actions.
The installation embraces its concept of nomadic and flexible design, transforming the inflated venue by challenging traditional notions of space, responding dynamically to movement, presence, and engagement.
The iteration continues to embody the idea of shared authorship, and emphasize the power of air as a form and a function, creating an experiential dialogue that invites visitors to immerse themselves in an environment that is ever-changing, responsive, and collaborative.
“The installation is a living, breathing entity where visitors become active participants, contributing to the ongoing transformation of the space. The experience invites the audience to engage with the installation as co-creators, embracing a modern power dynamic that is fluid, participatory, and communal.”

REIMAGINING THE FUTURE OF LIVING AMID THE ECHOES OF THE DRIED OUT ARAL SEA
The Swiss Embassy in Tashkent, in collaboration with curator Inessa Boltyanskaya, introduced BREATHE WITH ME to Uzbekistan—a transformative installation by Swiss-born, New York-based experience designer Annabelle Schneider. Hosted as part of the 3rd edition of Swiss Days, this five-day event at Tashkent City Mall invited visitors to immerse themselves in a sensory journey that bridged art, design, and environmental awareness.
A GLOBAL EXPLORATION OF WELL-BEING IN LOCAL DIALOGUE
The Uzbek version of the installation collaborated with Maison du Tchapan on customized local-ikat pillows. Together with yoga and child-breathig events, the subtle yet profound gestures invite visitors to pause, reflect, and reconnect in a cocoon-like space that fosters calm and introspection.
GROUNDING IN A DIGITAL + INSTABLE ERA
In an era of instability and overstimulation with visual, yet intangible digital experiences, BREATHE WITH ME aims to ground visitors in the beauty of multi-sensory, physical presence. The rhythmic movement of air and fabric creates a dynamic interplay of expansion and contraction, transforming the space into a living, breathing entity. This simple yet powerful design shifts our perception, offering moments of safety, joy, and tranquility—a gentle reminder to embrace the simplicity of life.

SITE SPECIFIC INSTALLATION OF THE BED FOR PUBLIC STAGING OF THE EXPERIENCE
The initial site-specific installations in New York and Miami began with stacked mattresses covered in hand-dyed, thermoreactive sheets and pillows, capturing the imprint of the visitor’s body heat as they left the bed—a fleeting mark of temporary physical presence. During the experience, visitors could wrap themselves in hand-woven, temperature-reactive survival blankets in gold and silver.
In Los Angeles and Barcelona, Annabelle evolved the installation into a more versatile and sustainable form, designing an inflatable mattress made of 48 body-adjusting fabric pillows. This reimagined bed invited two visitors at a time to embark on a three-minute VR journey. Together, they reconnected with their physical selves, exploring natural elements, sounds, and affirmations within a virtual world crafted to heal and reawaken the senses.

The physical installation for SWAB Contemporary Art Faifr (2024) presented a more sustainable in transport and build up. And even when covered with non-temperature reactive fabrics, not less interactive and comfortable: Annabelle designed a versatile bed made from 48 inflatable, body-adjusting fabric pillows, inviting two-three people at a time to embark on this three-minute VR-journey. The seams in between pillows hold every part of the body and make on e feel deeply sunken into bed - aligned with the VR experience, where the viewer dives deep into the universe of our beds and eventually floats through our natural bodily traces found as symbolic left-overs in bed.
“Virtual Reality (VR) has the power to transform, expanding our human imagination and encouraging psychological breakthroughs and personal growth.
The inflated textiles in the physical space absorb the weight and movement of the body, grounding us in the experience.

KARTELL ° LAUFEN
A NARRATIVE OF A POST-APOCALYPTIC DREAMSCAPE IN VIRTUAL RELAMS DURING TIMES OF GLOBAL LOCKDOWNS
A POST-APOCALYPTIC SANCTUARY
In a (post-)pandemic world where nature reclaims built environments, the Kartell ° LAUFEN Virtual Space reimagines the bathroom as a sanctuary and digital realm.
ARTIFACTS OF CARE + RITUAL
Set in a post-apocalyptic landscape, the project transforms bathroom products into poetic artifacts of care and ritual, scattered like flowers in reclaimed natural spaces.
IMMERSIVE, SURREAL EXPERIENCES
Featuring the Kartell ° LAUFEN collection, this immersive experience merges digital animation with tactile aesthetics, creating surreal, semi-interactive collages. Weather shifts, layered soundscapes, and surrealist quotes guide users through an exploration of luxury, care, and connection in a disrupted world.
Designed during pandemic lockdowns, the project transcends traditional exhibition boundaries. In collaboration with architects Fuhrimann Hächler, Annabelle Schneider crafted four virtual spaces that blur the lines between physical and digital.
A NEW VISION OF SURVIVAL + PROGRESS
The LAUFEN Virtual Space redefines how products, rituals, and relationships are experienced, offering an emotional narrative of survival, progress, and humanity’s evolving connection with nature.
“In a reclaimed world, where nature weaves its way back into human spaces, well-designed, enduring products made from natural materials—like ceramics— stand as symbols of resilience and wisdom.
Crafted with tradition, knowledge, and care, these objects become meaningful artifacts of ritual, connecting humanity to its roots.
They bloom, like flowers, in a new world, reminding us of the enduring value of thoughtful design and the importance of creating for longevity, beauty, and purpose.”

THE DIFFERENT SPACES
The stacked, interactive virtual spaces are to be explored by scrolling and clicking. Entering different scenarios in which nature takes back over the built environment.
A mixed media experience. This dream-like journey unfolds through four surreal settings: an urban area overtaken by greenery, a vast, heated desert, a forest illuminated by moonlight and animals, and an artist’s room showcasing limited-edition traditionally handmade collages by Swiss artist Monique Baumann. Each space evokes the aftermath of a world in flux, where human traces intertwine with the resilience of nature.
... “What remains of human presence when nature reclaims the built environment, and how can design create meaning in the aftermath?”

CURTAIN CALL
A TRANSFORMATIVE SPACE FOR COMMUNITY AND WELL-BEING DEFINED BY FABRICS, INSPIRED BY NEW YORK’S STREETSCAPES OF PASSING BY SOUNDS IN CARS.
CURTAINS IN MOTION REIMAGINING SPACE THROUGH FABRIC
A project pitch to reinvent space that forsters community and well-being. The concept draws inspiration from the fleeting urban phenomena of New York’s streetscapes— specifically, the rhythmic opening and closing of car windows and the transformative effect of Hip Hop beats on the surrounding environment.
FABRIC AS ARCHITECTURE: REIMAGINING PROGRAMMING AT WESTBETH ARTIST HOUSING
Set within the vast interiors of Westbeth Artist Housing in the Meatpacking District, CURTAIN CALL explores how five distinct types of curtains can be woven into the space to create dynamic, shifting experiences. By reimagining fabric as an architectural tool, the design investigates how spatial programming can evolve through layers of openness: from a closed meditation sanctuary to a semi-open art exhibition space, and finally to an open setting for intimate music performances.
SHIFTING EXPLORING THE IMPACT OF FABRIC ON URBAN SPACE DESIGN
Through this exploration, the project poses a provocative question: How can fabric, as an integral design element, alter both the perception and function of a space? This study challenges traditional boundaries, demonstrating the power of materiality to shape not just the physical environment but also the emotional and cultural experiences within it.
CONCEPT
https://vimeo.com/user194904908/curtaincall
CURTAINS AS DYNAMIC CONNECTION LAYERS
Even when closed, the curtains maintain a connection to the outer space through varying lengths and translucent materials, revealing glimpses of movement like passing feet.
For this concept, I experimented with weaves, knots, and materials such as paper, medical foil, iridescent plates, and T-shirt yarn, blending texture and translucency to create layers of curiosity and connection.
iNSPIRATION - URBAN PHENOMENA: STREETS AS SOUNDSCAPES
PRIVATE AND PUBLIC DUALITY
New York’s streets become a stage where music flows from driving cars, blasting Hip Hop beats that shape the city’s rhythm. This dual experience—private within the safety of a moving capsule, yet public as sound temporarily disrupts and connects—reflects the veins and authenticity of the urban landscape.
MOMENTS OF MAGIC + CONNECTION
These fleeting moments, where sound passes like rivers through the streets, trigger memories, emotions, and sparks of magic. They create a futuristic, dreamlike sphere— light, safe, and filled with movement—that invites us to fly beyond the ordinary.
DESIGNING RITUAL THROUGH SPACE
This project merges the ephemeral nature of time, sound, and imagery with the tactile and modular qualities of material and space. It envisions an interactive installation where sound, light, and projections transform space in real-time, celebrating “subtle silence” as a luxury and music as a ritual.
A MODULAR SANCTUARY
A sacred, adaptable environment emerges— visually and tactilely stimulating—designed for collective or solitary listening experiences. This modular space invites users to engage with music as a transformative ritual, blending the transient with the tangible.
1 SPACE, 3 EXPERIENTIAL SCENARIOS DEFINED BY CURTAINS Through opening and closing mechanism of curtains woven throughout space, the site adapts
from a communal open space for concerts, to semiclosed capsule moments that invite into the void; a clam space for meditations.
TRANSFORMATIVE STORIES WOVEN INTO SPACE
TRANSFORMATIVE SPATIAL DESIGN
The curtains serve as dynamic, adaptive elements that redefine the space for diverse experiences, from communal concerts to intimate meditative capsules.
NARRATIVE STORYTELLING THROUGH MATERIAL
Curtains are not just functional but storytellers, weaving speculative fiction and abstract projections to spark curiosity and imagination.
FUSION OF DIGITAL + PHYSICAL
The seamless integration of VR and video installations blurs the boundaries between tangible and virtual realms, offering multi-layered experiences
The use of speculative fiction, color, sound, and VR highlights innovative ways of merging art and technology to evoke emotions and engage visitors.
EXPLORATION OF PHYLOSOPHICAL THEMES
The project delves into profound questions of identity, connection, permanence, and impermanence, creating a space that invites introspection.
COMMUNITY-CENTERED CREATION
The project’s collaborative execution within the Westbeth Artist Housing emphasizes its community-driven essence and shared creativity.
