Company notes. If you know someone who has had a stroke, you’ll know that the hand on the affected half of the body can curl up and, unfortunately, the person can’t use it for the rest of their lives. There are currently no cost-effective rehabilitation device solutions in the marketplace. Occupational and physiotherapists will typically work with the individuals one-on-one using the rudimentary tools (e.g. squeeze balls) currently available. Training must be neurophysiology and neurorehabilitation oriented, targeted and focused, due to the fact that it’s very complex. IRegained came up with a unique solution, which focuses on the brain’s ability to re-learn, scientifically called “neuroplasticity.” Our device, the MyHandTM System, helps these therapists improve hand function so that stroke survivors can regain their functional independence. Our goal is to “reprogram” a stroke survivor’s brains so their hand can, once again, execute basic everyday functions like toileting, eating, writing, etc. It’s about helping them regain their hand function and reclaim their independence once again.

The angel journey. Most of our investors are members of the Northern Ontario Angels (NOA), and we also have several Equation Angels members. Our investors come from different backgrounds and some provide strategic mentorship. I have one who will call me and ask when the last time I took a break was and invite me over for a beer. Something as fundamental as that, to deep strategic mentorship on various aspects of running the company. We have two or three investors who run companies and they tell us how they run their companies successfully and how to expect problems before they arrive. Quite a few investors are handson. Some act as advisers to our board. In terms of time or a dollar figure, it’s significant. Some of them have dedicated as many as 80 hours each year for the past three years and for this support we are grateful.
