Qualifications, Experience, and Proactively Moving Forward Fuels His Campaign.
Aaron Guckian believes Rhode Island can do much better in terms of helping small businesses, making the state a preferred destination, and having the means to further its growth in shaping Little Rhody into a welcoming climate. Guckian is running for lieutenant governor because he knows that Rhode Islanders have been hard hit by the pandemic, with skyrocketing gas prices, supply chain shortages, and inflation. He believes that residents deserve to have an energetic, highly-engaged lieutenant governor, who will meet with them regularly to listen to their concerns, bring stakeholders together, and respond with bold action.
Guckian sees many issues facing residents and industry leaders. His biggest concern comes from a disconnect between those with questions and those who have the answers.
Guckian’s knowledge of state government will make him a good fit as second in command. He worked for Governor Donald Carcieri as his special assistant. During his tenure, he worked on several projects, including emergency management (specifically, the efforts towards assisting those involved in the Station Nightclub Fire) and cultivating relationships with non-profit organizations, federal and state leaders, and other groups. Along with his experience in politics, he brings a wealth of knowledge from his previous employment history. Guckian served at the state’s largest nonprofit organization, the Rhode Island Foundation, vice president of Bank Newport, an officer at the Washington Trust Company, and on several boards.
It’s being well-rounded in business and forming coalitions that makes him so viable.
“My parents instilled in me a great work ethic when I was growing up,” Guckian said. His father is a retired plumber and his mother worked as a respiratory therapist,” he explained.

“There are a lot of small problems that have turned into larger ones, and which are still climbing: inflation, gas prices, fees for LLCs, and taxes for small businesses. There needs to be someone who works in business and understands what is happening in order to step up and serve the people of our great state. Government should be able to help those needing it, not turning people away.”
When elected in November, Guckian will work tirelessly to fulfill the statutory responsibilities of the Office of the Lieutenant Governor. To that end, he will address the growing needs of small businesses, provide comprehensive, quality services to seniors, and respond to emergencies, quickly and effectively.
This means having a Help Center that stays open until 9:00 pm so that small business owners can contact IT after regular office hours to have people quickly responding to their problem.
This means having programs and services available for those continuing to struggle with the rising costs of food, services, and other amenities. Finding ways to keep money in people’s pockets is key.
This means having the lieutenant governor be a champion for those on the front lines, such as doctors, nurses, CNAs, as well as offering them incentives for training and placement. Too many are leaving those industries, especially now when we need them, thus, creating a shortage of quality healthcare workers in RI.
Guckian believes in the importance of meeting and listening to the public one-on-one to gauge what they feel are “hot button” topics and what can be done to generate solutions. In order for that to work, Guckian said that the state needs to do a better job of cutting through the obstacles that hinder business growth.
“There is too much red tape when dealing with the state, which leads people to becoming disillusioned. Then, they have to try to find other ways to have their questions answered. I know I have the skills and knowledge to get things done. We can and should be a state in which people will take pride. This is why I want to be Rhode Island’s next lieutenant governor,” Guckian said. Guckian is a lifelong resident of East Greenwich. He graduated from East Greenwich High School before earning a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Arts and Music from Connecticut College, a Master of Arts in Music from Rhode Island College, and a Masters in Business Administration from Johnson and Wales University. He is also a member of the East Greenwich High School Wall of Fame, an honor bestowed to graduates who have exemplified qualities in mentoring and community service.
