Government should be helping out, not making things more difficult.”
Aaron Guckian believes Rhode Island can do much better in terms of helping small businesses, making the state a preferred destination, and having the means to further its growth in shaping Little Rhody into a welcoming climate. Guckian is running for lieutenant governor because he knows that Rhode Islanders have been hard hit by the pandemic, with skyrocketing gas prices, supply chain shortages, and inflation. He believes that residents deserve to have an energetic, highly-engaged lieutenant governor, who will meet with them regularly to listen to their concerns, bring stakeholders together, and respond with bold action.
Guckian’s knowledge of state government will make him a good fit as second in command. He worked for Governor Donald Carcieri as his special assistant. During his tenure, he worked on several projects, including emergency management (specifically, the efforts towards assisting those involved in the Station Nightclub Fire) and cultivating relationships with non-profit organizations, federal and state leaders, and other groups. Along with his experience in politics, he brings a wealth of knowledge from his previous employment history. Guckian served at the state’s largest nonprofit organization, the Rhode Island Foundation, vice president of Bank Newport, an officer at the Washington Trust Company, and on several boards.
Guckian sees many issues facing residents and industry leaders. His biggest concern comes from a disconnect between those with questions and those who have the answers. “Much of what can be addressed at the local and state levels can be resolved in a day or two,” he said. “However, it can take weeks or sometimes months for the right person—or any person—to follow up. 62 Shop In RI
It’s being well-rounded in business and forming coalitions that makes him so viable. “My parents instilled in me a great work ethic when I was growing up,” Guckian said. His father is a retired plumber and his mother worked as a respiratory therapist,” he explained.
