He serves as the primary media contact for Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Men’s and Women’s Tennis, Men’s and Women’s Crew, Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving, Men’s and Women’s Indoor Track and Field, and Softball. In his first year with the Red Foxes, Alongi assisted in setting a school record as 13 studentathletes were selected Academic All-District by ESPN The Magazine/CoSIDA; two were named Academic All-Americans. In addition to his post at Marist, Alongi also served as an official scorer for the Hudson Valley Renegades, the Class A affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays, during the 2009 season. Alongi received his Bachelor’s degree in Communications with a Business minor from Marist College in 2008. During his time at Marist, he interned in the Athletic Department, as well as spending a summer in the New Media Department at MSG Network. While he was an undergrad, Alongi served as Co-Editor of the Sports section of The Circle, the student newspaper at Marist. Additionally, he was a member of MCTV, and the Marist College Marching Band, Pep Band and Concert Band, holding the Office of Vice President of Pep Band for a total of five semesters. Alongi is a member of the College Sports Information Directors of America, CoSIDA.

TIM SMITH

Entering his 13th season at Marist, head coach Tim Smith has taken the Red Foxes to the highest level of success during his time with the team. His teams have won eight Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championships, and received as many NCAA Tournament bids. In the past 10 years, the men’s teams have compiled a record-setting 78-5 mark in the MAAC. During the 2009-10 regular season, his players have taken the program to a higher level. Seniors Loic Sessagesimi and Christian Coley became the first players to reach the ITA Regional Tournament Round of 16 in November. Sessagesimi reached the quarterfinals to net the highest individual finish under Smith’s tutelage. Additionally, Marist four players were awarded MAAC Player of the Week five times during the spring. The accolade was handed out 10 times during the regular season. In Smith’s 13 years at the helm of the Red Foxes, he has compiled a 216-71 record. He has coached the men’s team at Marist to 208 wins, while earning eight as head coach of the women’s tennis team. The team continues to play one of the most competitive tournament schedules in the east, having played the Army, Brown, Cornell, Dartmouth, Harvard, Penn State, Columbia USTA Open, ECAC and Intercollegiate Tennis Association’s (ITA) Tournaments. Dual matches have included matches against Alabama, Baylor, Brown, Florida, Harvard, LSU, Ole Miss and Texas. His teams and players are regularly recognized by the ITA for their academic excellence and have won every tennis award offered by the MAAC. The Red Foxes have competed in eight NCAA Tournaments under Smith. He has taken the program to the University of Texas at Austin, Baylor, LSU, Harvard, Alabama, Mississippi State and Florida.

Prior to coaching at Marist, Smith registered an 80-4 record over four years at Dutchess Community College and one year at SUNY Oswego for a combined career record of 29674, a winning percentage of .800. While at Dutchess, he coached three nationally ranked teams, two of which finished in the top 10 and three junior college All-Americans. Over the past 25 years he has guided numerous students to receive state and national rankings. In addition, Smith is an ETA-USTA National Team Coach, an ETA Junior Davis Cup Coach and a USPTA Level I teaching professional. Smith was named the USPTA Coach of the Year for the Eastern Section in 1993, 1995 and 2009. Additionally, he was the recipient of the Presidential Sports Award for Tennis. His peers selected him as the MAAC Coach of the Year in 2003. In 2008, he was inducted into the Dutchess County Sports Museum Hall of Fame for his contributions to tennis and the community. Smith graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Education from SUNY Geneseo, where he lettered in tennis and was captain of the team. He received his Masters of Science from SUNY Albany in Student Personnel in Higher Education and his Certificate of Advanced Study (CAS) in administration from SUNY New Paltz. A native of Lockport, N.Y., Smith presently resides in Hyde Park, N.Y., with his wife Ann. They have two children, Shannon and Tim Jr. Shannon resides in Enfield, Conn. and Tim lives in Chapel Hill, N.C.

DR. ELLIOT SUSSIN

Dr. Elliot Sussin enters his third season beside Head Coach Tim Smith on the Marist men’s tennis staff. Sussin has been living in the Hudson Valley for 52 years and has been involved in tennis for 35 of them. The Syracuse University graduate is a practicing Chiropractor. His practice, which is located in both Rhinebeck and Poughkeepsie, specializes in sports chiropractic injuries and has been a fixture in the area since 1980. A USTA member, Sussin has been a 4.5 and 4.0 player for the past 20 years. He also has been teaching tennis at Kutcher’s Sport’s Academy since 1975. It is also rumored that he regularly beats Coach Smith when they play. Dr. Sussin is the proud father of three daughters and one son. Jennifer graduated from Marist in 2009, and his son Scott plays tennis for John Jay High School.

Men’s Tennis Sweeps Siena In First Dual Match Of Season All six singles matches were decided in straight sets. Senior Christian Coley defeated Michael Amico, 6-1, 7-5 at first singles. Juniors Marcus von Nordheim cruised past Jarett Siwiec, 6-0, 6-2, and Hank Bessinger beat Kevin Gioia, 6-3, 6-4 in the first MAAC dual match of his career. Sophomore Ian Sims outlasted Nick Godbole, 6-3, 7-6 (8-6). Marist swept the doubles point to win all nine matches contested in the afternoon. The first doubles team of Coley and von Nordheim triumphed over Amico and Siwiec, 8-5. Loic Sessagesimi and Bessinger warded off Gioia and Vikaran Kadaba, 8-6 at second doubles. Sims and Matt Himmelsbach proved too strong for Jay and Nick Godbole. The Marist third doubles team won 8-2.

The pair defeated Mirza Klis and Jonathan Jaklitsch, 8-6. At third doubles, junior Landon Greene and senior Loic Sessagesimi prevailed over Jonathan Fife and Ashish Bhandari, 8-5. Van Eck captured Marist lone singles win on the afternoon at the third spot in the lineup. He bested Jeremy Feldman 6-3, 1-6, 6-1. Senior Christian Coley fell to Andy Gauthier in three sets at the top singles spot. The final score was 4-6, 7-6 (4), 6-4. Coley is ranked 20th, while Gauthier is 11th in the ITA Northeast Region. Men’s Tennis Drops 6-1 Dual Match To Binghamton Freshman Joris Van Eck defeated Bastian Bornkessel 6-2, 6-1. He has now won three straight matches dating back to the Army Invitational. Binghamton swept the doubles from the Red Foxes. Van Eck and junior Marcus von Nordheim were the closest in the loss. They fell 8-7 to Alex Haggai and Moshe Levy.

Coley Defeats Regionally Ranked Opponent In 5-2 Victory Over Stony Brook Senior Christian Coley, who is ranked 20th in the ITA Northeast region, picked up a victory in straight sets over Ivan Rummel, 6-2, 7-5. His last two victories have come in straight sets as he defeated his first regionally ranked opponent of the season. He is now 1-2 in matches against regionally ranked foes. At second singles, senior Loic Sessagesimi snapped a five-match losing streak. On Saturday he defeated Roope Kailaheimo in three sets, 2-6, 6-3, 6-1. Junior Nicolas Pisecky and sophomore Matt Himmelsbach notched victories at fourth and sixth singles respectively. The Red Foxes swept the doubles point from Stony Brook. Himmelsbach and Coley teamed up at first doubles to defeat Rummel and Kailaheimo, 8-2. Freshman Joris Van Eck and Pisecky squeezed past Mitch Wong and Palesh Tiwari, 9-7, while Sessagesimi and junior Landon Greene bested Ilan Shvartz and Max Sztabholz 8-5.

Men’s Tennis Falls To Loyola Marymount 6-1

Marist Loses To Marquette In California

Junior Marcus von Nordheim was Marist’s lone individual winner as he took a sixth singles victory in three sets.

The Marist men’s tennis team dropped its second straight match as it fell to Marquette, a member of the BIG EAST, 6-1 on Tuesday in Los Angeles, Calif. Sophomore Matt Himmelsbach picked up the only win for the Red Foxes on the day at fifth singles.

Von Nordheim defeated Johan Berhof 6-3, 5-7, 10-4. In addition to the singles victory, senior Christian Coley and sophomore Matt Himmelsbach won at second doubles. The pair defeated Renzo Maggi and Jack Zapala, 8-1.

Himmelsbach defeated Jacob Straus in three sets 6-3, 1-6, 7-6 ( 8-6). At third singles, junior Nicolas Pisecky took his match into a third set before he fell to Niko Boulieris. The final score was 3-6, 6-4, 15-13 in the third set tiebreak.

Men’s Tennis Coasts To 6-1 Victory Over Saint Peter’s Marist swept the doubles point as the wins got progressively closer as the pairings went down. At first doubles, senior Christian Coley and sophomore Matt Himmelsbach defeated Alex Frakes and Chris Frakes, 8-1. Senior Loic Sessagesimi teamed up with junior Nicolas Pisecky at second doubles. The Swiss pair defeated JJ Gramatica and Robert Forai 8-5. The third doubles team was comprised of senior Michael Land and junior Rhys Hobbs squeezed by Andrew Musyoka and Luccas Coutinho 8-7 (8-6). In singles, four of the top five players won in straight sets over the opposing Peacocks. Coley defeated Sergey Igel 7-5, 6-2 at first singles. Sessagesimi coasted by Alex Frakes 6-0, 6-3 at second singles. Himmelsbach surrendered just five games to Gramatica in a 6-2, 6-3 victory. At fifth singles Hobbs won in 19 total games, 6-4, 6-3 over Musyoka. Hobbs has won his last four singles matches, while Himmelsbach has won his last two.

Red Foxes Win Eight Of Nine Matches In 7-0 Win Over Rider No singles player needed more than 18 games to finish off a match as all six Red Foxes won in straight sets. Senior Loic Sessagesimi and junior Marcus von Nordheim netted the largest margins of victory on the day. Sessagesimi won his second singles match over Ryan Carpenter 6-1, 6-1, while von Nordheim defeated Marc Ashed at third singles by the same score. At fifth sophomore Ian Sims coasted past Drew Laverty 6-1, 6-2. Senior Michael Land rebounded from a loss on Wednesday with a 6-2, 6-1 win over Robert Olsen. Land played sixth singles for the Red Foxes. Senior Christian Coley won at the top spot in the lineup. His score was 6-3, 6-3 over Will Haight of Rider. Junior Rhys Hobbs rounded out the singles victories with a 6-2, 6-3 triumph over Chris Esposito at fourth singles.

Marist Rides Win Streak To Four, Defeat Niagara 6-1

Marist won the doubles point for the fourth straight match, a stretch as long as it’s winning streak. The Red Foxes earned victories at the second and third spots in the lineup to notch Behind a three-set victory by junior Landon Greene, the Marist men’s tennis team squeaked the point for the team. Senior Christian Coley and sophomore Matt Himmelsbach posted past St. John’s 4-3 in a dual match at the East Campus Tennis Pavilion on Wednesday. Greene an 8-3 win over Jordan Blair and David Sarrasin at second doubles. Marist’s Loic Sessagesidefeated Martin Kosut 6-2, 2-6, 6-0 at sixth singles to secure the victory. Senior Christian mi and Joris Van Eck netted a third doubles win over Joseph Zellic and Brandon Gallegos, Coley and sophomore Matt Himmelsbach notched singles wins as well for the Red Foxes. 8-4. Coley battled to a straight set victory over Milo Hauk, a 2009 ITA championship Round of 16 Sessegesimi and junior Landon Greene both lost just two games apiece in their second and player. Coley took the first set in a tiebreak, 7-6 (5). In the second set, Coley led 4-1 before sixth singles matches respectively. Sessagesimi defeated Matt Kane, 6-2, 6-0, while Greene Hauk rattled off three straight games to knot the score at four. Coley then won the next two coasted by Blair, 6-1, 6-1. games, behind a break and a hold to win the second set 6-4 and take the match. The match was contested for the first singles point. At fifth singles, Himmelsbach lengthened his team-best winning streak to five matches as he bested Sarrasin 6-1, 6-2. Himmelsbach’s match was the first to be completed of the six singles matches on the day.

Men’s Tennis Posts Fourth Shutout Of Season In 7-0 Win Over Colgate

Marist Blanks Fairfield 7-0 To Take Control Of First Place In The MAAC

The Marist men’s tennis team took control of first place in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference on Tuesday, taking down the Fairfield Stags 7-0 in a battle of MAAC unbeatens at the East Campus Tennis Pavilion on Senior Day. Sophomore Matt Himmelsbach clinched the win for the Red Foxes, as his 6-4, 6-4 win at fourth singles won the fourth Coley defeated Michael Yassky 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (7-3), 7-6 (7-0) to win at first singles point of the match for Marist. Overall, Marist won eight of the nine matches on the day.

Senior Christian Coley gutted out thrilling three set victory where each of the sets went to a tiebreak.

Marist then got off to a hot start in singles play as Landon Greene defeated Kelly 6-0, 6-0 at fifth singles for the Red Foxes’ second point of the day. Junior Marcus von Nordheim followed with a dominant 6-2, 6-0 win over Mike Lessing at sixth singles. The top-four singles matches were more competitive. Himmelsbach took the first set of his match 6-4 against Erik Kremheller. He then trailed 3-4 in the second set before breaking Kremheller to even the set 4-4 before winning the set 6-4, giving Marist its fourth and deciding point.

Men’s Tennis Concludes Perfect MAAC Season With Shutout Victory At Loyola The Marist men’s tennis completed a perfect MAAC season as it notched its third straight shutout victory. On Sunday, the Red Foxes coasted to a 7-0 victory over the Loyola Greyhounds at Butler Courts to clinch the top seed at the upcoming conference championship. The win improved Marist to 10-5 and 6-0 in the MAAC.

Men’s Tennis Runs Winning Streak To Eight With 7-0 Victory At Hartford Winners of its last eight dual matches, the Marist men’s tennis team picked up its fourth consecutive shutout victory as it posted a 7-0 win over Hartford on Monday afternoon at the Hartford Tennis Courts. With the win, the Red Foxes improved to 11-5 overall this season and 5-3 in road matches. All six Red Foxes won two matches on the day.

Four of the six players held their opponents at love in one of the two sets. Loic Sessagesimi and Nicolas Pisecky each lengthened their winning streaks to Juniors Landon Greene and Marcus von Nordheim won at third and fourth singles respectively. Greene defeated Marco Neves 6-2, 6-0, while von Nordheim four matches apiece. Sessagesimi defeated Keyan Sanai, 6-3, 6-3, while Pisecky got the better of Pierce Norton 6-3, 6-0. Sessagesimi and Pisecky played first and notched an identical 6-2, 6-0 win over Eric Floum. second singles respectively.

Red Foxes Blank Loyola For Spot In MAAC Men’s Tennis Men’s Tennis Notches Fifth Straight Shutout In 7-0 Rout Of Finals Army In a battle of MAAC and Patriot League championship top seeds, Marist blanked Army 7-0 at the East Campus Tennis Pavilion on Wednesday afternoon. The win marked the fifth straight shutout for the Red Foxes in 10 days and just the second victory over the Black Knights in a dual match in program history. Seniors Christian Coley and Loic Sessagesimi and junior Landon Greene all won 6-2, 6-2 in their respective singles matches.

The Marist men’s tennis team earned its place in its 11th straight MAAC Tournament finals after a 4-0 win over Loyola on Saturday in the semis. The victory marks the 10th consecutive win for Marist, with the last six coming via a shutout. Sophomore Matt Himmelsbach netted the clinching point at fourth singles. It was his 25th win of the season.

The Red Foxes began the morning match with a sweep in the doubles as the squad won all three matches to take a 1-0 lead in the team score. Junior Landon Greene and freshman Joris Van Eck defeated J. Pierce Norton and Keyan Sanai, 8-6. Marist Coley defeated Chris Albornoz, Sessagesimi took down Johnny Lucero and Greene also got wins from senior Christian Coley and Himmelsbach at second doubles. The bested Bruno Lucivero. Coley played first singles, Sessagesimi at second and pair from Marist bested Kevin Zingler and Dan D’Agostino by a score of 8-5. Marist Defeats Fairfield 4-0 For Third Straight MAAC Title Powered by its seventh straight shutout victory, the Marist men’s tennis team captured its eighth MAAC Championship on Sunday, after a 4-0 win over the second-seeded Fairfield Stags. The Red Foxes have won three consecutive conference titles and senior Loic Sessagesimi was named the MAAC Tournament’s MOP for the third consecutive season. Needing just three singles victories to clinch the win, the Red Foxes got victories from Nicolas Pisecky and Matt Himmelsbach for the second straight day. Pisecky cruised past Ferrante at third singles, 6-1, 6-2. Himmelsbach was the only Marist player to hold his opponent at love in a set on the day. He defeated Berthod 6-3, 6-0 at fourth singles.

Tennis Team, Star Make It Three Straight Marist's men's tennis team likewise won its third consecutive MAAC crown on Sunday, each time defeating Fairfield, with senior Loic Sessagesimi earning his third straight tournament Most Outstanding Performer award. Marist (14-5) earned an automatic bid into the NCAA tournament with the victory. It will learn when, where and whom it is playing on May 4. Playing indoors at Saint Peter's Yanitelli Center due to inclement weather, the Red Foxes wasted no time in taking the doubles point, thanks to a firstdoubles win from Landon Greene and Joris Van Eck (8-4) and a thirddoubles victory from Sessagesimi and Nicolas Pisecky (8-4), leaving the second-doubles match unfinished. Marist went on score points in third singles by Pisecky (6-1, 6-2), fourth singles by Matt Himmelsbach (6-3, 6-0) and fifth singles by Greene (6-2, 62), to claim the championship with three matches still in progress.

Men's Tennis Defeats Fairfield 4-0 For Third Straight MAAC Title Senior Loic Sessagesimi Named MAAC MOP For Third Straight Year

April 25, 2010 Complete Results | All-Time Championship History JERSEY CITY, N.J. - Powered by its seventh straight shutout victory, the Marist men's tennis team captured its eighth Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship on Sunday, after a 4-0 win over the second-seeded Fairfield Stags. The Red Foxes have won three consecutive conference titles and senior Loic Sessagesimi (Blonay, Switzerland) was named the MAAC Tournament's Most Outstanding Performer for the third consecutive season. Marist, the top seed in the championship, vaulted itself to a 1-0 lead after it captured the doubles point behind victories at the first and third spots in the lineup. Junior Landon Greene (Palos Verdes, Calif.) paired with freshman Joris Van Eck (Ospel, Netherlands) to defeat Dan Sauter and Rob Ferrante 8-4 at first doubles. The Red Foxes captured the point after junior Nicolas Pisecky (Lausanne, Switzerland) and senior Loic Sessagesimi (Blonay, Switzerland) also notched an 8-4 third doubles triumph. Pisecky and Sessagesimi defeated Ryan Berthod and Mark Kremheller.

Senior Loic Sessagesimi was named MAAC MOP for the third straight year.

Needing just three singles victories to clinch the win, the Red Foxes got victories from Pisecky and Himmelsbach for the second straight day. Pisecky cruised past Ferrante at third singles, 6-1, 6-2. Himmelsbach was the only Marist player to hold his opponent at love in a set on the day. He defeated Berthod 6-3, 6-0 at fourth singles. Greene netted a fifth singles victory over Kremheller 6-2, 6-2. Following the fourth point for Marist as a team, the remaining matches were halted since Fairfield could not come back to win the match. The first, second and sixth singles matches were not completed.

The match was moved indoors to Saint Peter's College as inclement weather plagued the region on Sunday. The contest was held at the Yanitelli Center in Jersey City, N.J. The two teams have met in the conference championship match in each of the last three seasons. The championship is the 81st in Marist Athletics history and second in as many weeks as the men's rowing team captured its 13th MAAC crown last Sunday, April 18.

Christian Coley Ranked #20 In ITA Northeast Region Senior Is First To Be Ranked Since 1999-2000

Jan. 6, 2010 SKILLMAN, N.J. - Senior Christian Coley (Glastonbury, Conn.), the Marist men's tennis team's top singles player, was ranked 20th in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) in the Northeast Region on Tuesday. It is the first time a Red Fox has been ranked since Ralph Van de Plasse who played for the Red Foxes from 1998-2000. Coley compiled an 11-5 record during a strong fall season, one where he reached the Round of 16 in the ITA Northeast Regional Tournament. During his run to the Round of 16 he defeated eighth-seeded Kenneth Au of Brown, who is ranked ninth in this edition of the Northeast Region's poll. His longest winning streak of the fall was three consecutive matches, which happened on two occasions. "Christian is a player that does not have `senioritis' because of his extra hard work and training," head coach Tim Smith said. "He has had significant wins against quality opponents; even some who are ranked ahead of him in this poll."
