WELCOME SCHOLARS welcome scholars 12

Spring 2009 Spring 2010

Welcome to ScholaR’s Day The Department of Housing and Residential Life is excited to welcome you to campus. We provide a variety of living options on campus. Each offers its own unique community with trained staff and programming opportunities designed to help you succeed. We have provided some information below on our department and the facilities you will be touring. In addition to the three facilities you will be touring, we offer 18 other hall options. Feel free to visit our Web site (www.reslife.txstate.edu/housing-options-and-rates) for more details on our facilities.

Learning Commiunities Our Learning Communities were created to further enhance the residential experience and build on the natural partnership between on-campus living and the academic curriculum. A Learning Community (LC) consists of a group of students who live in the same residence hall. This environment offers peer and faculty mentoring, co-enrolled classes and study groups—as well as educational and professional development activities. This initiative consists of a Residential College which is open to all incoming freshmen (regardless of major) and a variety of major or interest-based Learning Communities. One of our newest Learning Communities is for students in the University Honors Program. It is housed in Butler Hall. Students will co-enroll in an Honors section of University Seminar, create Honors thesis topics and participate in a variety of experiences together. This LC is for students accepted into the University Honors Program.
