Bronzeville Dream Center Chicago, IL
The BDC is a community initiative dedicated to providing counseling and other social services to the Bronzeville neighborhood and all of Chicago. The existing building and the adjacent lot were transformed to create a welcoming environment that is also secure. The contemporary addition acts as a beacon of change in a neighborhood that has fallen into disrepair. It also houses the main vertical circulation of the building, the grand stair, while displaying the activity of the building through activated landings.

Dynamic Circle Tour Lake Michigan
Travelers on the shoreline of Lake Michigan are brought together by the Dynamic Circle Tour, which creates checkpoints for hikers, bikers and paddlers to rest, gather and solidify a community. Centered around a complex in Leland, Michigan, these checkpoints vary in size and amenities based on existing towns and water access points.

The Dynamic Circle Tour Headquarters is a complex in the Whaleback Natural Area in Michigan. Perched on a beautiful sand dune, the four buildings include storage, lodging, kitchen and gathering space. Through the grouping, runs a path that connects the road to the shoreline below, a small leg of the traveler’s 1,000 mile journey around the lake.

Synergy Housing Mexico City
Mexico City is one of many cities with an excess of sloped, seemingly unbuildable, land as well as substantial population living in informal housing. Synergy proposes a grouping of affordable, high density housing, interspersed with commercial and community spaces, fit into the hill side, acting simultaneously as a retaining wall and an icon for the neighborhood. Circulation is integral to the system. Horizontal, vertical and diagonal planes converge, allowing connection and preventing a break in the urban fabric.

By shifting some of modules, we can create public spaces to be used by residents of the neighborhood. From basic amenities like laundromats to community gyms to locally owned businesses, these unique spaces create more opportunities for neighborhood interaction.

West Pullman Housing Chicago, IL
Part of a Habitat for Humanity Chicago project, these single family homes strive for efficiency and originality without losing the aspects of a traditional home. The families that partner with Habitat work hard to obtain a dream home and they have certain expectations about what a home should be. By incorporating traditional elements like a front porch and backyard with contemporary materials and facades we created homes that these families could be proud of.

The West Pullman proposal included multi-family town-homes and apartment buildings to maintain a diverse built environment and accommodate families who need a smaller and more affordable space. By varying the facades, we avoid a monolithic building and keep a comfortable neighborhood feel.
