DCF HISTORY
ESTABLISHING DETTMAR CRAMER FOUNDATION (DCF) MILESTONES OF AN OUTSTANDING PERSONALITY Since his successful work as coach of the Japanese national team, rewarded with the bronze medal at the 1968 Summer Olympics in Mexico, Dettmar Cramer enjoys cult status and veneration in Japan represented by the conferment of the highest Japanese decoration “Order of the Sacred Treasure” in 1971 and the induction into the JFA Hall of Fame in 2005. On Dettmar Cramer’s regular visits to Asia he made contact with Andreas Ibach in 2007. Both saw the necessity to revitalize the football coaching structure that Dettmar Cramer built up and laid foundations for major reforms in Japanese football in the 1960s. Dettmar Cramer achieved worldwide acclaim for instructing football as a comprehensive educational tool forming human personalities as valuable members of society. This philosophy is the legacy of Dettmar Cramer; he passed it on to Dettmar Cramer Foundation DCF for further dissemination. He worked in over 90 countries around the world including China. Dettmar Cramer passed away on September 17th, 2015. His legacy and mission lives on.

SPORT OF FOOTBALL = PERSONALITY TRAINING PASSING ON THE TRAINING PHILOSOPHY OF DETTMAR CRAMER As a student of Sepp Herberger (world cup winner 1954) Dettmar Cramer represents a training philosophy adapting the GraecoRoman ideals of education. Therefore, it is the personality development which Dettmar Cramer has placed in the center of football coaching. In alteration of non scholæ sed vitæ discimus in football it applies to:

Thus football training has very much to do with permanently improving individual talents. Dettmar Cramer has defined this objective in the mnemotechnic verse:

Already in the beginning of his coaching career Dettmar Cramer had realized that youth training must consider „the functions of the nerve pathways“ (Dettmar Cramer 1952). Cramer’s training philosophy anticipated neuroscientific findings of the 1990ies („Decade of the Brain“) and linked them to the philosophy of Confucius (551479 BC):

This 2500 years old tenet epitomizes the present term of self-regulation. Thus it applies to one of the most important learning objective of modern education; the football tradition uses the term discipline. Dettmar Cramer has set the objective to DCF to include and constantly upgrade the neuroscientific knowledge.

The football game is a social game: A team is successful if the team spirit and team play on the pitch comes together. Football training is also always a social behavior training, within teams, clubs and public. In sport of football one learn social responsibility and young players take it along on their life’s journey, as their attitude of life that characterizes their everyday life. During his FIFA assignment, besides game technique and tactics, Dettmar Cramer also passed on the social maxims of football to children and youths in more than 90 countries around the world.
