H I L O K A L I A. A word often heard in the Orthodox Christian faith. It’s a Greek term that means “love of the beautiful.”

The Or thodox Christian experience is infused with beauty. God calls to us through the presence of beautiful things—from the elegant chalice that houses Christ’s very body to the icons of beloved saints hanging in our homes. We created this coloring book for our littlest believers, who are just learning to draw with crayons and markers and pencils! As they color the Good Shepherd or the Jesus Prayer, they are cultivating their own sensibility to beauty while learning to recognize some of the meaningful symbols, elements, and motifs of the Church, paired with some brief words that are often heard in church.

We pray that little hearts and minds will be in some way inspired while working through this book, and it will be an aid toward the honoring, creating, and respecting of B E A U T I F U L T H I N G S.
