Dom a Vaquera
First Place at Advanced Level, Kaly XVII, owned by Chacón Cantizano and bred by Sa Torres De Son Danus
ADVANCED HORSES The Advanced category was held in the afternoon, with more participants than in preceding years. Eight horses and riders, as is mandatory, performed the exercises listed in sheet number two of the Doma Vaquera Rules and Regulations. While in the Novice category the winner was a proven rider, in the Advanced, it was a newcommer, Martin Chacón Rosado, who ran away with the highest score, even on the first day, riding Kali XVII, a horse from Mallorca boasting a Yeguada de Sa Torre de Son Danus brand and owned by Chacón Cantizano. Martin Chacón premièred in this federated category, although he arrived with the endorsement of an all-encompassing record of successes at exhibition competitions in the province of Cadiz. Undoubtedly, he performed the best set of exercises in this competition, standing out for his correct pirouettes, the amplitude of his half passes, both at walk and canter, and, above all, in the semi-pirouettes at walk, on the second day. He spurred on, tempered and turned with a vibrant cowboy air. His performance received applause from an appreciative

audience. With a total score of 233.000 points, he was proclaimed SICAB 2012 Doma Vaquera Champion for Advanced Horses. Mar tin Chacón is from Paterna de Rivera, a village in the province of Cadiz town with an important and well-known tradition for organizing national Doma Vaquera competitions, and the site of several Andalusian and Spanish Championships, as well as European Championship. The town is nestled in the so-called “ruta del toro” (Fighting Bull Route), where horse enthusiasm in general, and more specifically vaquero style riding is well extended among its inhabitants. From this publication, we would like to congratulate the
locals for the success of their fellow-citizen, who will be one of the surprises of the up-coming season, and to encourage them to once again organize Doma Vaquera competitions. Second place went to Francisco Martínez Fernández, riding Postin III, a gray owned by Mª Luisa Guardiola Domínguez. They performed a careful execution of the exercises; his turns on the haunches and his correct flying changes must be highlighted. The judges awarded him a final average of 225.66 points. Antonio Juan Pérez Cruz came third, with a bay horse, Xacobo III, owned by the Ganaderia Pérez Bardallo and bred by Yeguada Yasmina Moreno. Although his test on the first day was better, on the final day, he showed a good canter rhythm and the execution of the direct and inverse pirouettes, for which he was awarded a score of 216.167 points. The judges for this class were Antonio Palacios as President, f lanked by Luis Carlos Campos and Immaculada Robledillo; the federation representative was Manuel Baena.
