50,000 THANK YOUS! About a quarter of the rubbish in your black bin is food waste that could be reused or recycled in your brown bin. This is both environmentally and economically a real waste! Recently, Council has been encouraging residents to recycle as much food waste as possible, with Love Food Hate Waste recipes for leftovers and bin stickers encouraging more food recycling. You have responded in brilliant fashion with less food waste being thrown in the black bin. As a result of your efforts, we have been able to recycle 10% more food waste with over 500 tonnes diverted from landfill and turned into compost between January and June 2017. This means that the Council has saved over £50,000 because of your recycling. If you leave your red tag on your brown bin, our staff will leave you green bags, to keep up your great efforts. Alternatively you can pick up bags from our Council facilities.
