Antrim and Newtownabbey Borough Council also supports direct investment by way of financial assistance. Funding awards are assessed on a case by case basis. The impact of the fund is measured by the social and economic impacts of the investment.
The university-based AMIC project links early stage research and education to industry in the form of a new Factory of the Future (at Global Point in Antrim and Newtownabbey) and an enhanced AMIC Composites facility at the existing Northern Ireland Advanced Composites and Engineering (NIACE) location in Belfast. Through this project multiple industries, sectors and technologies will be brought together to address major industrial challenges such as carbon net zero, digitization and automation. AMIC, along with the existing NIACE facility consolidates world-class academic research, globally leading companies and targeted investments in future technologies to create a sustainable future for businesses and to deliver ambitious growth for Northern Ireland and the UK. The project is a £98m investment, across both capital and revenue sources, expected to generate over 1,300 permanent jobs and contribute £65m annual GDP to the Northern Ireland economy.
