Scientific name: Camelus
The UAE is historically known for its attachment to camels which are of social and economic value in the region. Bedouins used camels for milk, meat, hair for textile and goods and human loads. It was the most important animal for survival in the desert and a status of wealth if owning many camels. The camels were given as a bride’s dowry among the Bedouin tribes. Not to mention its use as payment of Zakat — the annual portion of a Muslim’s personal fortune that is given as charity to people in need — as which was at times paid in camels instead of money.

Breed types: There are two types of camels. The Dromedary, an Arabian camel, is a large even-toed ungulate with has one hump while the Bactrian, also known as Asian camel, has two humps.

We have 23 camels, all coming from different “walks of life” and the best of all are born here. Rainbow-Nation Family, as we call our Camel pack with different brown shade of colors from different regions. Light brown from UAE, black from Saudi Arabia, white from Sudan and mix breeding camels whose colors may vary. The rainbow-nation male camels are a mix variety between the ages of 6-to-23 years old that each have a special story about them.
Hatora-Ahmar which means big red hammer, as he has a massive big hump and reddish-brown hair. Hatora-Ahmar lives amongst his rainbow-nation family where he interacts and lives out his happy retired life in Ezba.
Suhan and Sheikha are both our Alpha camels. You will find Suhan when you are doing your Camel ride with us. Sheikha is the “mother” of all our camels and is very friendly and affectionate. You will be able to find Sheikha nurturing the young calf, Hamza, 11 months old. Sheikha’s traits and personality has fully carried onto her eldest calf Salama. Salama is four and a half years old, most intelligent camel in the rainbow-nation family. If you call her name, she will come and say hi to you.
