“When you do corporate events, you tend to have more creative rights, than, say, when you’re working for a bride. A bride usually has in mind exactly what she wants and has been thinking about this for a while. “Corporations, on the other hand, will tell you they want a centerpiece, dance floor, entrance piece, and specific areas that they want decorated. But, then it’s up to you to take it from there.” Away from the store, Tammy also offers instruction at balloon decorating competitions and conventions. And, these events can be pretty demanding, especially in regard to meeting deadlines. “We do competitions at conventions, and some of these are really tough. One time, a crew of six of us spent almost two days working on a project. You get a six-hour break, so we slept, then came back and finished.” Conventions are held in cities across the U.S. And, Tammy has served as an instructor at many of these locations. Tammy was even named 2010 Designer of the Year at the FLOAT Convention in St. Louis, Missouri. She recalls, “The last class I did was on retail decoration sales. I showed the people in the class different things they can sell besides just balloons.
