Warm weather and sunshine are perfect partners for summer fun with the Johnson County Public Library! Whether you’re looking for programs to keep the kids engaged in learning or if you’re looking for enriching opportunities for yourself, our libraries have plenty of options to fill your calendar. I want to take a moment to highlight some of these exciting programs and events as you fill in your summer calendar. Summer Learning Program (May 15-July 31) This summer’s “Build a Better World” theme encourages participants to read, create and discover. I encourage you to flip though this guide and discover book clubs, arts and crafts and special events to enjoy with the kids, as a family or as an adults-only escape. Authors at JCPL It’s a real treat to share that we will be welcoming some of our favorite authors to Johnson County this summer. Kristy Cambron, Salina Yoon and Karin Slaughter will join us as featured speakers during our Authors at JCPL series. You can learn more about these events on pages six through eight. At Home in Johnson County As a part of our partnership with the placemaking team of Aspire Johnson County, we’re spending each Saturday in July celebrating our neighbors who come to us from Syria, Burma, Japan, India, Mexico and China, and who now call our county home. Join us as we learn about a different culture each week through fabulous international foods, music, games and art. Learn more on page nine. Make a Difference In order to make a lasting impact in our community, we asked our staff to design programming in support of our new mission, vision and values to “strengthen our community by connecting people, resources and experiences.” Soon, we will be offering new park and museum passes, STEAM activities for all ages, colorblindness correction glasses, the 1000 Books Before Kindergarten program and a new StoryWalk at Trafalgar Branch’s Prairie and at Country Gate Park in the Clark Pleasant area. We could not be more thrilled to bring you innovative and engaging programming at JCPL this summer!

What is a library? A building with books? A place to use public computers? A quiet space to do homework? A library serves all of those purposes. But we believe a library IS so much more. A library is a place to connect people, resources and experiences. It’s a place where ALL people are welcome. It’s a place to learn through reading, discovering and creating. A library is a community of empowered learners, enthusiastic readers and engaged citizens. Our new look captures our vision of library as community for all. And we can’t wait to share it with you this summer!
