Tips
The Area A team will complete a ward round every morning at 0800. Don’t forget to handover your patients at the end of your shift! It is really easy to forget when you’re not used to taking primary responsibility for a patient. The ED consultants & registrars give 6th years lots of responsibility and you act as the patient’s primary treating doctor so if you leave ED without handing over your patient to the afternoon/night team when you leave their care may not be followed up by your supervising registrar and the supervising consultant will have to sort out your patient at the end of the night when they finish at 2400! Don’t forget to sign in and out of your shifts Always introduce yourself to the supervising area consultant or registrar at the start of your shift. Don’t forget to update the HAS screen with your details in the clinical comments section.
