Welcome from Head of House

Hello, I’m Simon and I’ll be your head of house next year.

I would like to welcome you to St. Thomas which I am sure you will quickly realise is the best choice of house. I would like to especially welcome the year 9 who must feel nervous/ excited to join a new school and lifestyle in a boarding house. Although I was not in Ampleforth for year 9, I was in boarding school and using my experience and talking to my year I would say that the best advice is to tell you to try and meet as many people has possible because at the end of the day this will be your year for your time in Ampleforth and year 9 is the best time to make lifelong friendships. I would like to add that you should also try and throw yourself in has many co-curricular activities as possible to see what interests you and to take full advantage of the opportunity that Ampleforth gives.

I’m sure many of the parents will fall into the category of wanting to buy the entire stock of John Lewis in preparation for next year which I would advise against. Because of the way the school wash is organised and the unique style Ampleforth has you only need enough cloth for 10 days. I would advise parents to buy 10 days' worth of clothes and use the exeat early in the year to buy what you might have forgotten.
