ROUND MALTA CRUISE

During this cruise we shall sail past Valletta, Malta’s capital city, the Grand Harbour entrance, Marsascala bay, St. Thomas bay , Peter’s pool, Delimara point and Marsaxlokk bay, Malta’s largest fishing village, past the Blue Grotto - giving you a view of these fascinating colourful caves. The Captain Morgan vessel also cruises past the imposing Dingli cliffs , the little island of Filfla and some of Malta’s most popular sandy beaches. A particular attraction is Anchor bay. This rocky cove incorporates Popeye’s Village’, the actual set of the film Popeye’ shot on this location. We stop at the island of Comino in the crystal clear waters of the famous Blue lagoon. MDINA FULL DAY

Today’s excursion takes us to the central part of Malta that is dominated by the ancient citadel of Mdina. On passing through the narrow streets of Mdina, the ‘Silent City’, we will admire the imposing bastions that command a magnificent view of most of the island. On leaving Mdina through the ‘Greek Gate’ we stop at the catacombs before proceeding to the cliffs at Dingli. After lunch we visit the botanic gardens of San Anton and the impressive Mosta dome, the crafts centre at Ta’ Qali, where time is allowed for souvenir shopping.

HIGHLIGHTS OF MALTA

We drive towards Mosta to visit the famous Dome considered to be 3rd largest in Europe. We then visit a number of local artisans at work producing typical Maltese ware, which includes glass, silver and filigree. Free time is allowed for souvenir shopping. We then proceed to the Silent City, Mdina, with its defense bastions dating back to the 9th Century. We walk through the town visiting St. Paul’s Cathedral and then to the Bastions for a panoramic view of the Island. We then walk to Rabat to visit St. Paul’s Grotto. A typical Maltese lunch will be served in one of the village’s restaurants. Finally we proceed to Dingli Cliffs for a panoramic view of the open sea where we will also stop to see some Cart Ruts.

GOZO

Gozo is the legendary abode of Calypso daughter of Atlas. Our tour starts with a visit to the Ggantija Prehistoric Temples in Xaghra and then proceeds to Dwejra to see the ‘Azure Window’, Fungus Rock and the Inland Sea. We will also stop to see the local lace and knitwear for which the island of Gozo is renowned. Lunch will be served in a typical Gozitan village. After lunch we visit the Citadel including Gozo’s Cathedral in the capital Victoria and experience a sound and vision show of the island of Gozo. Finally we embark the ferryboat at Mgarr Harbour to return to Malta.

HAGAR QIM-LIMESTONE HERITAGE-LOCAL MARKET

This excursion to the south of the island commences with a visit to the Limestone Heritage, Park and Gardens, which offers an insight on Maltese history through an extensive multilingual audiovisual presentation and an engaging walkthrough a real quarry turned into a museum celebrating our distinct stone. Here you learn about one of Malta’s foremost trades, that of quarrying and stone decorating with limestone. Its also possible to explore an onsite animal park. We proceed by a visit to the most complex and elaborated temples of Hagar Qim, Malta’s foremost prehistoric site, which were excavated for the first time in 1839. These temples stand on a hilltop where one can admire the breathtaking view of the sea and the islet of Filfla. Leaving Hagar Qim we proceed to Wied iz-Zurrieq where there will be the possibility to take a boat trip that will take you the Blue Grotto, renowned for its Azur Window (boat fee is not included- weather permitting). After lunch we tour past varied agricultural land and vineyards up to the idyllic fishing village of Marsaxlokk. Admire the waterfront lined luzzus painted in traditional colors that add color to this serene bay once on site of landings by both Turkish and French troops during Malta’s heroic past. Time will be given to browse around the well know local market held daily in the village. Our day comes to an end when you will be guided through the cave of Ghar Dalam, one of the first habitats of these islands.

MILITARY TOUR

Our visit starts by visiting the newly reopened and refurbished Lascaris War Rooms in Valletta, here you will witness how the World War II Mediterranean Campaign was controlled and won. Next we visit the Saluting Battery at the Upper Barrakka Gardens where you can see at the age old tradition of the firing of the Mid-Day Gun followed by a tour of the Saluting Battery used during the British period to provide ceremonial salutes to visiting dignitaries and ships. After a short coach trip, you arrive at Fort Rinella – a British Victorian Fort, which is a unique remnant of Malta’s recent British colonial past and home to the world largest cannon- the Armstrong 100-ton gun. A guided tour and authentic reenactments take place throughout the afternoon. Complimentary refreshments are served at Fort Rinella, You may even opt to relax for a few hours on the nearby Kalkara beach. Return transfer to your hotel departs from Fort Rinella at 15.30. Upon arrival in Pozzallo a typical Sicilian fishing village, gradually regaining its role as the main port of the province of Ragusa, we proceed by coach to Taormina, passing Ispica, a baroque town rebuilt after the 1693 earthquake, Rosolini, a typical rural town dated back to Roman times, surrounded by orange and lemon groves, Siracusa, the home town of Archimedes and home to the world famous archaeological zone and the University city of Catania, a thriving commercial centre. Upon arrival in Taormina, free time is allowed in its centre to enjoy the unique panoramic view overlooking Giardini Naxos, a former Greek colony, now an international yachting centre. Time for lunch (not included). On the way to Mt. Etna we stop to sample some typical Sicilian delicacies, including wines, cheeses, almond sweets and honey; these Sicilian specialties are for sale (no obligation to buy). Upon arrival at Mt. Etna, from the Sylvester crater at 2000 metres, enjoy the panoramic view of the vast base of Etna and the effects of the most recent eruptions. On the return journey, the last stop is at Pozzallo. The imposing Cabrera Tower, the symbol of Pozzallo, is a 15 th century silo. Our guided tour through the bustling streets of the capital first takes you to view the Barracca Gardens and enjoy the breathtaking panorama of the Grand Harbour and the three fortified cities. Then to St. John’s Co-Cathedral, adorned in riches that date back to the Knights of Malta including the world famous Caravaggio painting that is on display in the Oratory and the Church Museum that is adorned with Flemish tapestries. Departure from our terminal at the Sliema ferries we will pass the Yacht Marina in Ta’ Xbiex onto the outskirts of Valletta, the capital city where you can admire the fortifications and harbours that surround Valletta. Then proceed to the centre of Malta with a stop to visit the Mosta church, admired all over the world for its magnificent Dome being the 3rd largest in Europe. Next stop is at Ta’ Qali Crafts Village where you will have the opportunity to watch artisans with different skills such as silversmiths and glass blowing at work. Finally we reach Mdina, Malta’s medieval old capital city, also called ‘The Silent City’. Here the streets are purposefully built narrow and winding; the medieval buildings are impressing. CITY SIGHT SEEING BUS SOUTH TOUR

Depart from our terminal at the Sliema ferries, pass the Yacht Marina in Ta’ Xbiex onto the outskirts of Valletta, the capital city where you can admire the fortifications and harbors that surround Valletta. Stop for a walking tour with the guide. Continue to the south of Malta to make a stop at the ‘The Three Cities’: Vittoriosa, Cospicua and Senglea which offer an interesting glimpse of Malta’s historical past. Next stop will be at the Tarxien Temples, rich in heritage dating back to the ‘Copper Age’. After we continue to Marsaxlokk the fishing village, where typical traditional brightly painted colored fishing boats “luzzu” line the waterfront. We then pass through Birzebbuga by St. Lucian Tower on the way to the village of Zurrieq where we stop for a few minutes to see the stone quarries which surround the area. The last stop is at the Blue Grotto. The Blue Grotto was carved by years of persistent pounding by the sea. There is also time for an optional boat trip. We drive to the Capital Valletta and walk to the Barracca Gardens for a panoramic view of the Grand Harbor. Proceed to St. John’s co-Cathedral, Malta’s greatest treasure where there is the famous painting by Caravaggio. THREE HISTORICAL CITIES

Discover the historical area known as the three cities: Vittoriosa, Cospicua and Senglea. A drive past Cospicua will bring us to Vittoriosa where we walk through the various narrow streets shaded by many historic buildings and churches. HARBOUR CRUISE

On boarding our pleasure boat we sail to visit the natural ports of Marsamxett and the Grand Harbour whose natural creeks make this port one of the most beautiful in Europe. The families on holiday, who want to do more than sunbathe, would do well to look a tour to the new Playmobil establishment in Hal Far. This is the second largest factory worldwide producing this international and loveable toy brand and the only production plant where one can actually see the toys being made. After a guided tour of most of the production areas, you can enjoy the Playmobil Fun Park and refreshments at its cafeteria. We drive to Wied iz-Zurrieq to the picturesque Blue Grotto where weather permitting we shall take a boat to the Grotto to view the magnificent underwater flora (Boat fare not included). MR 22 HAGAR QIM & LIMESTONE HERITAGE PARK & GADENS This excursion to the south of the island commences with a visit to the Limestone Heritage, Park and Gardens, which offers an insight on Maltese history through an extensive multilingual audiovisual presentation and an engaging walkthrough a real quarry turned into a museum celebrating our distinct stone. Here you learn about one of Malta’s foremost trades, that of quarrying and stone decorating with limestone. Its also possible to explore an onsite animal park. After this visit we proceed to the most complex and elaborated temples of Hagar Qim, Malta’s foremost prehistoric site, which was excavated for the first time in 1839. These temples stand on a hilltop where one can admire the breathtaking view of the sea and the islet of Filfla. Leaving Hagar Qim we proceed to Wied iz-Zurrieq to see the Blue Grotto. BLUE GROTTO & MARSAXLOKK MARKET

Explore one of Malta’s few unspoilt villages in the south of the island. We rooam around winding narrow streets unchanged by time, and finish in the ‘pjazza’, village square, here you get a true feeling of village life in Malta. We proceed to visit the Blue Grotto close by. (Boat price not included – weather permitting). Lastly we will visit the main fishing village of Marsaxlokk with its waterfront lined with ‘luzzus’, typical traditional brightly painted colored fishing boats. This was once the site of the first Turkish landing during the Great Siege of 1565. Free time to browse around the market stalls.

Between June and September every village in Malta holds its main event of the year - the village festa. It is a mixture of folklore and religion and is held in honour of the patron saint of the village. This tour includes a guided explanation of the parish church which is especially decorated for the event. On Sunday evening the statue of the patron saint is carried on shoulders of chosen villages in a procession around the village. The climax of the festa is reached when the statue returns to church and aerial fireworks are let off to salute the saint before going back in the church after having blessed the village. The procession is also accompanied by the village brass band playing popular band marches along the way. The village streets are decorated with banners, fairy lights and statues. This is also a good opportunity to meet and mix with locals celebrating the festa. It is an event not to be missed if you are in Malta in summer!
