ARNELL MEMORIAL HUMANE SOCIETY, AMERY Paprika is the very reason kittens inspire the “aaahhhhh response.” She is tiny and adorable,

sweet and cuddly. At eight weeks, Paprika is ready to win over every heart she encounters with her cherubic face and personality. She came to the shelter as a single stray kitten, left on her own to find her way. This cutie is but one of the adorable kittens making their debut this week in the adoptable cat room at Arnell. Calden and Reid are short haired kittens with Black and White coats. Their sister Alicia has a short Blue Grey and White coat. They all possess the most amazing “happy motors.” At the touch of your hand they let loose with a purr that can be heard from across the room. They are kittens in every regard, able to play all day, until they drop. Zelda is a young Classic Swirl Orange Tabby. She is four months old and likes to play and hunt. Nothing makes her happier than a cuddle in your arms at the end of a long play session. John is a short haired Black kitten with a white locket. This young man, 10 weeks old, is on the go. He hasn’t met a ball he wouldn’t chase, a catnip mouse he couldn’t hunt or a piece of fluff in the air that didn’t set him into action. In his sleek black coat, he is like greased lightning as he streaks from one room to the next. You will have to be fast to keep up with John. Adult cats with a bit more reserve but just as much (or more) love to give are: Female Tabbies with sprinkled highlights, Allison and Nellie.

We call them Torbies, a cross between a Tabby and a Tortie. Allison is a great hunter, quiet on her feet and demeanor. Nellie will rub up all over you for attention. Gina is a true Tortie, Black and Orange mixed together, with medium hair. Mavis is a Black Tortie with a long black hair, bright green eyes and just a few sprinkles of orange highlights. Both of these girls are loving and anxious to be your next best friend. These cats and more are waiting to meet you at the Arnell shelter in Amery. They all hope you will be able to make it to the Internet Cat Video Festival on Saturday July 30th at Millpond Park in Osceola. The curated collection of cat clips, videos and short films that was such a huge hit at the Walker Art Center is coming to a town near you – with Free Admission. The Osceola Public Library and Arnell Memorial Humane Society are sponsoring this celebration of The Cat. Costumes encouraged. Last week Gidget and Tipper, both long term adoptable pets, found

Public invited to share their favorite ‘Fair Story’ Every year millions of people attend county, district or state fairs and tell their friends about the great time they had. Maybe it was your first encounter seeing a cow, riding the ferris wheel, eating a corn dog, serving as superintendent for 30 years, or even getting engaged; but it happened at the fair. Now it’s time to share your story with the rest of the state. The future of fairs is very important in our counties, as well as in our state, but we also must promote the history of our fairs to the general public. Entries are being accepted for Wisconsin’s second annual “Every Person Has a Fair Story” contest. Anyone who wants to share their fair story about a fair in Wisconsin is welcome to enter. Share your fair story in

200-400 words and include the name of the Wisconsin Fair you are referring to. By submitting an entry, the author transfers to the Polk County Fair Society ownership of the fair story. Stories will be displayed during the 2016 Polk County Fair and entered in the Wisconsin Association of Fairs “Every Person Has a Fair Story” Contest. The entries will be judged by to be determined. One $50 cash prize will be awarded. The winner will be announced September 1, 2016. Local entrants must submit their story no later than Monday, July 25, 2016. Please send to Diane Kuhl, PCFS Secretary, 298 30th St, Clear Lake, WI 54005.

their perfect homes. Gidget was a shy, long hair Chihuahua, that needed time to get to know you and needed to find just the right person to look past the reserved nature she shared on a first meeting. She found that person in a young woman who needed a buddy to cuddle with on the couch. Tipper and Dallas, Lab Mix brothers, came to the shelter as surrendered pets on April 16. Tipper wowed a young couple from Durand with his calm attitude and classic good looks; going home after two and a half months at the shelter. His adopters have sent a report that Tipper has settled in and is happy in his new home. This story could only be made happier if Tipper’s brother Dallas, still waiting at the shelter, could find his loving family and new life. Dallas is a gem just waiting to be rescued.
