Poppy Balser: Painting Boats: Getting the Lines Right Join watercolor artist Poppy Balser as she discusses how painting boats requires careful attention to shapes, angles and perspective. The bones of the picture have to be good. It is when the drawing is in place that the artist can make the painting come to life with just the right fine lines to depict the rigging. Poppy Balser, a signature member of the American Society of Marine Artists, will share what she feels is the most rewarding part of painting a boat: laying in the lines that make the boat come to life.

Leon Holmes: The Big Mistakes! What makes a painting look amateurish? Internationally acclaimed Australian artist Leon Holmes will discuss some of the more obvious but often overlooked flaws in drawing skills and explains how to recognize them through a better understanding of scale and perspective. Figures, animals, water, landscapes, architecture; it’s evident everywhere we look.

David Boyd: Design, Design, and Design: The Three Most Important Parts of a Painting Some may argue that the underlying design of a painting is what makes it strong. David agrees. It doesn’t matter how well you mix color if your design is weak. Learn a few ways that you can make the overall design of your paintings stronger.

Vice President of Oil Painters of America will talk about some great pieces of artwork by this year’s Forgotten Coast artists and help you understand how the artist is composing the painting, what makes them sing, and what you can look for while viewing artwork.
