KEEPING THE DREAM ALIVE! “But more basically, I am in Birmingham because injustice is here. Just as the prophets of the eighth century B.C. left their villages and carried their “thus saith the Lord” far beyond the boundaries of their home towns, and just as the Apostle Paul left his village of Tarsus and carried the gospel of Jesus Christ to the far corners of the Greco Roman world, so am I compelled to carry the gospel of freedom beyond my own home town. Like Paul, I must constantly respond to the Macedonian call for aid.” ~ Martin Luther King Jr.

Organizers Plan to Make 2009 Service Day the Largest Ever Washington, D.C. - The growing movement to make the King Holiday a national day of service will get a powerful boost from the leadership of seven national organizations selected for King Day of Service grants from the Corporation for National and Community Service. Building on the momentum from last year, these organizations will activate their networks, reach out to new partners, mobilize volunteers, and provide cross-sector leadership for the annual King Day of Service, which this year falls on January 19, 2009. Participation in the King Day of Service has grown every year since Congress passed legislation in 1994 urging Americans to honor Dr. King by engaging in service on his holiday. Last year, more than 500,000 Americans took part in 5,000 projects from coast to coast -- building homes, delivering meals, refurbishing schools, reading to children, signing up as mentors, and much more. “Every year more Americans are making the King Holiday a day on, not a day off – a day of service and action to honor a great American hero and build his dream of a Beloved Community,” said Corporation CEO David Eisner. “Even more importantly, we are seeing these volunteers come back and serve in their communities during the rest of the year. With the leadership of these grantees, the power of this idea, and the momentum for service in our nation, the King Day of Service is ready to grow on a massive scale.” The Corporation has worked with the King Center in Atlanta and other partners to encourage more projects that serve as a springboard for year-round service, such as recruiting mentors or school-based projects that extend over a semester. The agency also sees the King Day of Service as a powerful way to engage young people from disadvantaged backgrounds in providing service to others. Organizations of all types -- companies, schools, clubs, nonprofits, public agencies, student and servicelearning groups – are encouraged to participate and begin planning now for the 2009 holiday. The Corporation for National and Community Service improves lives, strengthens communities, and fosters civic engagement through service and volunteering. Each year the Corporation engages four million Americans of all ages and backgrounds in service to meet local needs through its Senior Corps, AmeriCorps, VISTA, NCCC, and Learn and Serve America programs. From the Pulpit of the Publisher JESUS, MY HOPE in 2009 by Jerry Hanoum Socrates and Aristotle each taught for 40 years, Plato for 50 years, and yet Jesus’ influence far surpassed the combined 130 years of teaching by these men who are acknowledged as the greatest philosophers of all antiquity. Jesus painted no pictures, yet the finest paintings of Raphael, Michelangelo, and Leonardo DaVinci received their illumination from Jesus Christ. He wrote no poetry, yet Dante, Milton, and the world’s greatest poets were inspired by Him. He composed no music, yet Haydn, Handel, Beethoven and Bach reached their highest perfection in hymns and symphonies composed in His honor. Every sphere of human greatness has been enriched by the

humble carpenter of Nazareth. His awesome life he gave was to the purpose of men’s salvation of their soul for eternity.

He composed no music, yet Haydn, Handel, Beethoven and Bach reached their highest perfection in hymns and symphonies composed in His honor.

Philosophy could not accomplish that, nor art, nor literature, nor music. Only Jesus Christ can break the enslaving chains of sin and Satan. Only Jesus can heal the brokenhearted, strengthen the weak, and give life to those who are spiritually dead. The Old Testament told of His coming and in the New Testament He would save men of their sins and give

them new life, eternal life. WOW, that’s a long time of living.

Did you know redwood trees last for a 1000 years; most everything else is relatively fast lived. For instance; a face lift lasts only 6 to 10 years, a dollar bill lasts only 1 year, a painted white line on the road lasts only 4 months and a tornado lasts only a few minutes. What about YOU? The average life span is now between 75 and 80 years. That sounds pretty good if you’re still young. (LOL) But at its best,

that’s still not eternal. The bible says your life is like a mist or vapor, and they are not known for their longevity. Just a puff of smoke and they’re gone. Yet Jesus Christ came to save and set men free NOW and for all eternity. As for me, 09’ is all about my trust in Jesus Christ as the LORD OF ALL. My hope is in Him. I love my country, but my trust is in the Lord Jesus Christ for my future and family. To me this is still one nation under my God, THE FATHER, SON (JESUS), and HOLY SPIRIT. May God bless America in 09’ and may God bless you for eternity!

Obama planning billiondollar ‘bailout’ for abortion industry Jim Brown A pro-life group in Washington has launched a campaign to oppose what it calls president-elect Barack Obama’s planned $1.5 billion “bailout” of the abortion industry. Last week, the Obama-Biden Transition Project posted a report on its website that calls for dramatic policy reversals on abortion, including $1 billion in taxpayer money for international abortion groups like Planned Parenthood. The report, titled “Advancing Reproductive Rights and Health in a New Administration,” also calls for a 133-percent increase in funding for the Title X program, which funds Planned Parenthood clinics across the country. Marjorie Dannenfelser, president of the Susan B. Anthony List, is hoping a Republican-led effort in the Senate will block Obama’s plan to substantially increase taxpayer funding of the abortion industry. “This billion-dollar bailout of the abortion industry comes at a time, number one, when the economy is suffering dramatically with true need. And number two, it communicates an incredible depth of arrogance, especially when you consider that the vast majority of Americans -- men and women, no matter who you talk to -- they don’t believe that people who don’t believe in abortion should be funding it,” she contends. “Most Americans don’t believe that we should be funding abortions, especially in a time of economic crisis.” The Susan B. Anthony List has started a “Stop the Abortion Bailout” campaign designed to recruit thousands of activists to send letters to their senators “with the goal of securing the 41 votes necessary to sustain a Senate filibuster of the abortion bailout.”

New Anglican church will form in U.S. Allie Martin A federation of Anglican Christians will soon form a new Anglican church in North America. That announcement comes from The Common Cause Partnership, a coalition of conservative Anglican churches upset with the liberal leanings and policies of the Episcopal Church in the United States. Early next month, Common Cause will release a draft constitution for a new Anglican church in North America. Robert Lundy with Common Cause says the decision has been at least 30 years in the making. “We, as The Common Cause Partnership and... as sort of disaffected Episcopalians, Anglicans, feel it is the one step that we have to make -- and we will reach out to other Christians who are in the Episcopal Church and help them, and we hope that they reach out to us and work together for mission,” Lundy shares. “But for The Common Cause Partnership and the 100,000 people who we represent, this is a step we feel that the Lord is leading us to take.” In June, the Global Anglican Future Conference, or GAFCON, met in Israel and drafted the Jerusalem Declaration, which outlined their Christian beliefs and goals to reform, heal, and revitalize the Anglican Communion worldwide.

‘Ministry of presence’ in a busy year Allie Martin This year will go down as the busiest year ever for the Rapid Response Team of the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association. Tornadoes, hurricanes, and floods meant a hectic year for the crisis chaplaincy program of the world-renowned ministry. The Rapid Response Team (RRT) was deployed to more than 30 different locations, praying with more than 17,000 people. Jack Munday, director of the RRT, says it is a privilege to be able to serve disaster victims. “We’re thankful that we have that opportunity to do that, and in the midst of a very terrible situation to bring in good news and assistance and help,” Munday shares. “Many times our role is simply assisting people to find the resources that are in the area -- and sometimes the biggest ministry that we have is the ministry of presence and just listening to people tell their story.” Along with flooding, tornadoes, and hurricanes, Munday says the RRT was also dispatched to the Valentine’s Day shooting at Northern Illinois University and last month’s wildfires in Southern California.

Contra Costa Ministers Conference 2009

At age 17, with a life spiraling out of control, drugs and alcohol consuming her life and her future, Iris Archuleta stepped into a church and was met by a miracle. Oppression, addictions and compulsions vanished in an instant, her burden not only lifted but completely removed. When Iris asked the Lord to make changes in her life, she had little idea of the direction He would choose. Iris went from being a high school dropout on drugs, to earning her degree in Political Science from Cal State Hayward, and then a Law Degree from J.F. Kennedy University. It has often been said that we should never tell God what we don’t want to do, because He has a great sense of humor…and the very path we resist may be the direction in which He leads. Today, Iris Archuleta is Co-Founder and Co-Chair of the Youth Intervention Network in Antioch. Together with Antioch Chief of Police Jim Hyde, a successful network has been formed, bringing together local community groups and the local school board to resolve the issue of youth violence. Iris Archuleta has a miracle story to share. You will be encouraged to hear her tell of the events which brought the network together and to hear recent examples of how teen lives have been changed in East County. Iris is a former member of the Board of Directors of Our Kids First and she has developed countless programs for the underserved youth of San Francisco. A New Creation in Christ by Saed & Linda Awwad I’ve been contemplating an old year passing away and a new year coming to be. I just couldn’t deny it; it reminds me of God’s intention for each one of us. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ Jesus, he is a new creation; old things have passed away; behold, all things have become new” (2 Corinthians 5:17). When our minds and hearts are transformed by the Holy Spirit, we “put on Christ.” Paul describes this dramatic change in our hearts and minds as Jesus Christ living within us. We “put off the old man with his deeds” and “put on the new man.” During this encounter with God, we become convicted of things in our life that are not pleasing to God. ONLY then with God’s prompting are we able to evaluate those things that are

hindering God’s plans for a hope-filled future (Jeremiah 29:11). The creation of righteous character is a two-way process. God gives us the knowledge and all the power we need. We then supply the choice, freely made, to live righteously. Our participation is crucial if God is to intervene in our life to make us a new creation in Christ. God desires that we have His convictions and His values when making decisions so that we may “inherit all things”. Revelation 21:7 says, “He who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son.” Our first birth is obviously on the day our mother gave birth to us and when God breathed life into us. The Bible talks about another birth that takes place during our lifetime. This birth occurs at the moment you decide

to accept Jesus Christ as your Savior and your God. This birth is when we are born of God’s spirit and when we become a new creation. If you’ve had this experience, this will clearly resonate in your spirit. Galatians 2:20 says, “I have been crucified with Christ; it is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life which I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me.” If we are to become a new creation in Christ, our genuine, heartfelt repentance is required, as God begins the process of creating us into a new person who desires what God desires. There is no greater experience in this life than the experience of inviting Jesus Christ to come and reside in your heart. Christ is knocking at your door, will you open it? Or, do you

Saed & Linda Awwad

think you can just “handle it on your own”. My friend, “handling it on your own” is what got you into this mess. “Jesus Christ is The Way, The Truth and The Life” (John 14:6). If you are seeking the Way, He’ll lead you there. If you are seeking the Truth, He’ll take you to His Word. If you are seeking Life, you will only find it in Him. All things CAN become new for you this coming year when you accept Jesus Christ’s invitation.

Psalm 96:1 Sing to the LORD a new song; sing to the LORD, all the earth. Isaiah 48:6 You have heard these things; look at them all. Will you not admit them? “From now on I will tell you of new things, of hidden things unknown to you. Isaiah 65:17 Behold, I will create new heavens and a new earth. The former things will not be remembered, nor will they come to mind.

Mission Life “Walking in Faith and Discipline” by Pastor Julie Jackson The New Year has arrived around the world. Missionaries living on the mission field have made it through yet another year and are now preparing for 2009. Missionaries are to be highly commended for their dedication. Being a missionary is not just a job, it is a calling from God that requires everything from the person who is called. It is self-sacrifice not only for the missionary but the missionary family. Most missionaries serve joyfully and work as unto the Lord, no matter what the circumstances in the natural. They know that God’s promises are true and that “He will never forsake thee or leave thee”. A missionary must possess great faith in the Lord, and discipline, to survive the rigors of mission life. It takes discipline to serve as a missionary. Each day brings new challenges on the mission field. Discipline is a great asset to those working in the mission field. It allows them to overcome the seemingly overwhelming issues that may arise. “Endure hardship as discipline; God is treating you as sons. For what son is not disciplined by his father”. Hebrews 12:7. Faith built on the Word of God sustains missionaries even through their most challenging hours. The book of Hebrews, Chapter 11, is known as the “Faith Chapter”. “Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1. Missionaries live by faith not just sometimes, not just when it is convenient for them, but every second of every day is a faith walk for them. Their unwavering faith in the Lord strengthens them and He is the strong tower that motivates them onward even when they are facing seemingly impossible obstacles.

As God’s servants on the mission field, missionaries and their families give their all to minister to a lost and dying world, spreading the gospel of Jesus Christ. Their faith, discipline and dedication are to be commended. As we begin the New Year let us also determine to walk in greater faith and discipline and dedicate our lives to doing the will of our Heavenly Father.

Judge Throws Out Defamation Claim by “Pledge” Challenger Michael Newdow December 11, 2008 ANN ARBOR, MI – Michael Newdow, who gained national attention for his near successful efforts to have the words “under God” removed from the Pledge of Allegiance only to be thwarted by the Supreme Court on technical grounds, has suffered another court loss. This time a California state court dismissed Newdow’s defamation action against Reverend Austin Miles. Newdow’s defamation lawsuit was based on an article Reverend Miles wrote, opining that Newdow had lied to the court by claiming his daughter was forced to recite the words “under God,” contained within the Pledge of Allegiance, at school. Reverend Miles noted that Newdow’s daughter was actually a Christian who willingly said the Pledge. In June 20 04, Newdow had convinced the initial judge hear-

Health by Joann Saporito The term ‘depression’ is not simply the short-term sad feelings, such as those which all people feel on various days. These feelings are common to all of us at one time or another. True depression is a very real disorder whereby sad feelings linger, in time interfering with daily life over a period of time (http://adam.about.com/encyclopedia/Depression.htm.) These types of feelings can be incapacitating and all-consuming and they affect not only the person suffering from depression but also those around them. Over time, depression can even wreak havoc on our health, wearing down our spirits and eventually our bodies. Symptoms such as sleep disorders, eating disorders, mood swings and poor health have all been linked numerous times to depression. Depression is in fact the leading cause of disability in the United States, affecting approximately 19 million Americans per year (National Institute of Health Publication, n.d.). Women are affected almost twice as much as men, and

Reverend Miles Bolling noted that Newdow’s ultimately tried the case. After daughter was a lengthy Judge actually a Christian trial, Barbara who willingly said Zuniga entered judgment the Pledge. in favor

ing this case to enter a default judgment in the amount of $1 million against Reverend Miles — who didn’t even know he had been sued. After learning of the massive judgment, Reverend Miles contacted the Thomas More Law Center, a national public interest law firm based in Ann Arbor, Michigan. The Law Center persuaded the Court to set aside the default judgment and allow the case to proceed to trial. Attorney Mark A. Thiel, of Stockton, California, assisted the Law Center as local counsel. Law Center attorney, Brandon

of Reverend Miles on November 20, 2008. Judge Zuniga declared that Newdow was not defamed, nor entitled to any damages, and dismissed the defamation claim against Reverend Miles with prejudice. Bolling commented, “We are pleased with the court’s decision. It was very clear from the start that Newdow’s claims against Reverend Miles had no merit.”

“Depression” the strain placed on the economy is phenomenal at over $30 billion dollars annually (National Institute of Health Publication). There are also reports regarding depression increasing during the winter months (known as seasonal affective disorder or SAD) as well as the winter holidays due to increased financial strains, unmet or unrealistic expectations, a feeling of inadequacy when gift-giving, and the inability to keep up with multiple social demands. This season’s post-holiday blues may be particularly tougher for many of us in our community as we witness our economy continue to struggle. If you find yourself, or know of someone who is dealing with such feelings this winter it is important to recognize it and then seek a sense of peace and reason behind these difficult times. Though there may be numerous ‘cures’ for feelings of despair, such as medications and therapy, the fact is, the greatest cure comes from a deep faith in our God and a belief that there is a purpose behind the

struggles He makes evident in our lives. Nowhere is this more evident than in the word of God. He has not only promised, but has time and again proven that He loves us unconditionally and will be there for us at all times if we only seek Him. Yes, there will be times our faith is tested, but our God did not mean for us to be burdened by sorrows that we could not withstand if He is in our hearts. Therefore, since we have been justified through faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ, through whom we have gained access by faith into this grace in which we now stand. And we rejoice in the hope of the glory of God. Not only so, but we also rejoice in our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance; perseverance, character; and character, hope. And hope does not disappoint us, because God has poured out his love into our hearts by the Holy Spirit, whom he has given us. Romans 5:1-5 (NIV Zondervan, 2002)

God puts us through burdens so that we can come to understand that He is with us always, promising to love us even in our deepest times-our saddest times-and even when we cannot feel his presence. Rejoice in knowing that He never leaves us and His promise is one of joy and life everlasting in His glorious kingdom. We must be obedient in our faith and put our trust in Him. God be with all of you and bless you.

ParentalRights.org Posted by: Peter Kamakawiwoole Tag(s):Convention on the rights of a child Danger to Parental rights • UNCRC • United Nations The Reality of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child Imagine an Air Force mom, serving her country on a month-long deployment, who learns that her daughter has been secretly removed by local authorities, claiming the child has been “abandoned.” Children begin mandatory sex-education at the age of four, regardless of their family’s opinions, beliefs, or convictions, and parents are imprisoned if their children fail to receive any of their mandatory vaccinations. Parents live in a state of constant supervision and suspicion. Imagine if your national government had the audacity to appoint a “guardian” to monitor your child from birth, charged with the legal responsibility to evaluate your decisions as a parent and armed with the legal authority to “intervene, prevent or rectify” any violations of your child’s rights. Public and private schools alike are policed by the national government, and classes begin with sing-

“Imagine if . . .”

ing about the principles of peace, tolerance, and the United Nations. Your child’s confidential medical records, stored in a nation-wide electronic register from birth until age twenty, can be accessed at any time, without your knowledge, by any physician, teacher, or government social worker in the nation. Now stop imagining, because for parents in the 193 countries that have ratified the United Nations’ Convention on the Rights of the Child, each of these scenarios is true. Constant Supervision and Suspicion Since its adoption by the United Nations in 1989, the Convention on the Rights of the Child (CRC) has become the most widely accepted international agreement in history, ratified by every nation of the world except for the United States and Somalia. All signatories pledge to protect children’s rights, foster their development, and uphold their best interests by re-writing their national laws to conform to the standards set forth in the treaty. While all this may sound harmless and even commendable, the reality is that the Convention allows and even

demands that national governments interfere in the decisions of individual families and parents. By invoking the “best interests of the child ,” policymakers and government agents have the authority to substitute their own decisions for those of the child or parent. In short, parents lose their rights to be parents, and become merely caregivers. The result, as parents across the globe are now discovering, is that the family is being steadily undermined, often with tragic and devastating results for the very children who are supposed to be protected. The Need for Vigilance Thankfully, the United States still remains the sole organized government of the world that has rejected the Convention on the Rights of the Child, because our elected leaders emphatically rejected the Convention’s incursions on American law and the American family. America believes that international committees and courts should have no authority in the affairs of her families, and that the right and responsibility of lawmaking should be wielded only by her own sons and daughters.

This emphatic resistance, however, must be more than simply a one-time stand, for without vigilance on the part of its citizens, America is unlikely to remain the last stalwart defender of parental rights. Nations across the globe are reaffirming their commitment to the Convention every day, and domestic scholars, activists, judges, and politicians continue to urge us to join them. To challenge their cries, ParentalRights.org will be taking a closer look at countries who have been recently cited by the United Nations as “model-governments” in the battle for children’s rights. Beneath their shiny veneer of success are stories and movements that reveal the dangers taking shape beyond our borders. Americans everywhere need to be informed about the true nature of the international movement for “child rights.” In short, they need to hear the stories of real parents, in real countries, who are becoming the real casualties of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Editor’s note: This begins a series of articles to be posted at the rate of one every two weeks.

A Letter from Michael Farris, President of ParentalRights.org. Michael Farris

Dear Friend of Parental Rights, I was in the United States Senate this past week meeting with lawyers for a Senate office. They told me directly what I have been hearing indirectly on a regular basis ever since the election Those who want to change family policy in America to comply with international law are preparing a full-scale effort to seek ratification of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child during this next Congress. Barbara Boxer recently told a planning group that they intend to use children’s health care as leverage to seek ratification of this UN children’s rights treaty. Please link to our website to see a succinct summary of the problems with this UN treaty. The strength of their forces has been greatly increased with the addition of Hillary Clinton as the nominee for Secretary of State. She will have direct control over the submission of this treaty to the Senate and will acquire the authority under international law to sign any other treaty on any

subject. Hillary Clinton was the person who made the announcement for the Convention on the Rights of the Child when her husband’s administration signed the treaty. Seeking its ratification is a lifelong dream for her Our situation is grim if we were to look only at the position of the elected officials. However, recent post-election polling demonstrates that almost 70% of Americans do not believe that the use of international law in American courts on such matters is appropriate. Less than 20% favor the use of international law. (The rest are undecided). Virtually every sub-group in America opposes this kind of use of international law. America is on our side. However, we have to be able to get the word out to help people hear the truth about the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child. Our proposed Parental Rights Amendment will permanently stop this treaty. So we have a one-two punch planned for the internationalists

First, we must build a huge grassroots movement of patriotic Americans who believe that good families should be able to raise their children without worrying about compliance with international law. Second, these same grassroot forces need to convince our elected officials that we are not content with defeating this treaty for today alone. We insist on a permanent solution. We need the Parental Rights Amendment. I need you to do two things to help this become a reality. First, please send a copy of this letter to everyone you know who believes in parental rights and American patriotism. Second, we need to raise a war chest to get prepared to launch a massive grassroots campaign. The other side has millions of dollars left in their campaign coffers, and they have the President of the United States, the Secretary of State and all the media waiting to carry their message. We can win the debate because we have the truth on our side, and we have public opinion. But we won’t

win if we can’t reach people. Will you please make as big a gift as you can to support Parentalrights. org? Here is what they are saying about us. At the hearing which featured Barbara Boxer, one of the speakers said that the people who will oppose this treaty are the “narcissistic sovereignty crowd.” In other words, those who love America first are so guilty of excessive self-love that he describes us as having the mental illness of narcissism. This is their real heart. Not only do they want international law to control our families, they think that we are mentally ill for loving America. It is time for those of us who believe in loving our families and loving America to rise up! We will not surrender this country or our children to such people. Get involved today! The battle is about to begin. For God, family, and America. Michael Farris

Trinity Christian School joins forces with Operation Christmas Child

The Power of a Simple Gift! by Juanita Dellinger Looking through the eyes of children has been one of the ways God has taught me so much about love and the simple things. Trinity Christian School joined together with Operation Christmas Child this Christmas. This ministry was started by Franklin Graham to bring children joy and hope in desperate situations around the world. The simple idea of packing a shoe box with small gifts and prayer has been a huge success. Since 1993, more than 61 million shoe boxes have been packed, shipped, and delivered across the globe. Each shoe box is delivered with a book of the salvation message of Jesus Christ in their own language. Trinity Christian School, now in our third year of teaching children, held a chapel to collect the shoe boxes for Operation Christmas Child. To watch the faces of the children as they brought

in their shoe boxes and placed them at the altar, will be etched in my memory forever. The excitement they shared felt like the first present handed to you Christmas morning and having no idea what was inside. The children sat quietly as our guest speaker, Saed Awwad, shared his personal story of a simple gift. He shared how in a small village the simple gift of a tennis ball, given in love by a missionary, helped change the course of his life. Though Operation Christmas Child had not been established yet, the idea was still the same. Plant the seed of God’s Word through love and it will not return void. Mr. Awwad finished speaking to the children and staff and asked everyone to come to the altar. We gathered around the shoe boxes totaling 100 and prayed for the children that the shoe boxes would be delivered to.

(Mrs. Urias and her class at Trinity Christian School) The children find joy in giving to needy children around the world.

As the children left, several of us took on the task of checking each shoe box to make sure it was prepared for shipping. The last box I checked reminded me of the greatness of our God. There, placed carefully on top of the little gifts, was a tennis ball with a smiley face drawn on it. I was reminded of the words in Jeremiah

29:11; “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future.” I sat there thinking of the child who packed the shoe box with the tennis ball and of the one who will receive it and was encouraged by the simple gift of love, Jesus Christ.

New Year’s Determination by Geannine Mijares My summer of turning sixteen, I wanted so badly to be able to go to cheerleading camp. It would be a week of pure pom-pom bliss. My parents made it clear. If I really wanted to go, I would have to raise the money to pay for it. Being the sixteen-year-old that I was, I immediately perceived it as being an unjust requirement. The other girls on my squad didn’t have that responsibility. I mean, “Come on! I shouldn’t really have to work for it.” I was just a teenager and the world should just fund my fun. Fortunately for me, my parents stuck to their guns and made me get a job. Not only did they make me get a job, but being the Godly parents that they were, they helped me find and get one that: was close to home, had hours that would not interfere with my cheer practice schedule and that would pay enough to cover the cost of camp, if I worked all summer. So during the summer of 1991, I worked with my grandfather at the fish market that was across the street from my little house. Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays, I would have to rise when the fresh catch came in and before the sun had come up. There were dark mornings when crossing the street seemed beyond reasonable for a young woman to have to do. For hours straight, I would have to stand in one place, take buckets of fresh calamari steaks, dip them in batter, one-at-a-time

and coat them in bread crumbs. The only companions that I had on the job was a group of older women on one side of me, who listened to endless Frank Sinatra ballads on their tiny radio and a group of older women on the other side of me who spoke Spanish so quickly that I could not understand. The batter and bread crumbs would work together to form sort of a paste on my hands so thick that at times it looked like I was wearing mittens. When I would get home from work, the lingering smell of ocean creatures would follow me everywhere I went. It drove my dog crazy trying to find the source of its foul fragrance. It was me! I had become the source of a foul fragrance!!! I wanted out. I wanted to quit. I wanted to forfeit the demands of the job and return to comfort. I went to my parents and told them that I wanted to quit my job. It was just too much for me to handle. Then my dad had the audacity to tell me, “NO.” He said I had to finish out the summer at the fish market, no further discussion. I was perturbed to say the least. Yet, I went back to the stinky work. A few days later my dad asked me what song I had been singing at work. I didn’t understand what he was asking. Then he said that he had been praying for me, to have the perseverance to finish the job and he asked God to put a song in my heart that would bring me cheer while I was there.

The summer of the fish market rocked my teenaged world and it was a blow that changed a part of who I was forever, in a right way. You see, God’s word says in James 1 (NIV), “2 Consider it pure joy, my brothers, whenever you face trials of many kinds, 3 because you know that the testing of your faith develops perseverance. 4 Perseverance must finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” “12 Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.” You see, my dad knew something about persevering and he cared enough about me to want me to learn a God lesson. I imagine it may have been tough for him to have to see his girl unhappy at work and upset with him. Yet, one of the most awesome things that I realize as I look back is that he didn’t just make me go back and that was it. He cared enough to take the time and lift me up to my heavenly father in prayer. He asked God to give me cheer while I was there. He knew how much I loved music and he asked that I would have a song with me all day to carry me through. Well, I got my song. I finished the summer at the fish market. I made it to cheer camp. Our squad even brought home a trophy and the spirit stick. But most important, I learned to persevere. I know without any doubt that if we stick

to it and rely on Jesus while we’re doing it, He will be with us in it and His joy will be our strength to rise above. I’m so grateful that my parents used regular situations in my child and teenaged life to teach me Godly principles that I still need every day. Being the Principal of a Christian school has required more from me than any other job that I have ever done. Yet, now that I’m older and the tasks of ministry and life get even more difficult, I remember the dark mornings and breaded calamari… and the Lord gives me a song that puts a spark in my eye and I move forward to get the crown of life that He promised me. I love Him. I encourage you parents who want to raise their children in God, to stick to your guns with your teenagers and children. Use the challenges in their lives to teach them to get determination and perseverance. Lift them up to their Father in heaven through your prayers. Support them with your time, attention and help. Make them go through it. If you don’t, you will leave them immature, incomplete and lacking. I know there is no good parent that wants to leave their children in that state. In this new year, don’t set your children up with New Year’s Resolutions. Set them up with New Year’s Determination that they will take into eternity and be able to hear it be said to them by their Father God, “Well done.”

CHANGE… Would you like to live a passionate life with meaning and a true purpose? It’s available to you now and the answer is in this article. by Will Byrns Change seemed to be the theme of 2008. It was at the forefront of the Presidential campaign and on the agenda for many local politicians as well. It’s a new year now and people want change in so many areas of their life, but are they serious about change? They want to change their body and they want to become healthier, but do they stick to the regimen of changing the way they eat and exercise? Everyone would like to be more productive, but would they sacrifice the time they spend going to nightclubs and socializing to get more done? For the most part, humans feel secure with the ‘status quo’ as there is comfort in stability and familiarity. People usually resist change, even though they always say they welcome it. When a new boss comes in and changes the way that you have done your job for years it can be a difficult adjustment, even if it’s best for you and the company. When you have taken the same route to the airport for years and someone else takes you a different way, it just doesn’t feel right to you, even if it’s a quicker, shorter route. Why? Change for most of us can make us feel uneasy. It is stepping out into the unknown. So the question is; do we truly want change? If you truly want change for a better life, here are a few questions for you to seriously consider.

Do you really want it?

Are you tired of living your life the way it is now? Do you feel that you are in a rut and every day feels the same? You wake up, gulp down that familiar cup of java and then off to work you go. At the end of the day you feel tired and lifeless so you turn on the tele for a short while and without even realizing it, you’re fast asleep. Suddenly you wake up on the couch with the boob tube still blaring thinking to yourself, ‘what time is it? Oh well, guess I’d better get in bed now, nothin’ else to do.’ Does this sound like anyone you know? It’s just like the movie ‘Ground Hog Day’ with Bill Murray. Every day your life is like a rerun and you have become so predictable. You have no purpose and no passion for anything or anyone! Well, for those that have been TRULY looking for a change to make their life better, here is the ANSWER. Accept Christ into your life! Accepting Christ into your life will give you that passion and purpose that you have been looking for. As a follower of Christ you will experience forgiveness for your sins, redemption and a life full of joy, hope and love. You will acquire an overwhelming amount of peace that you have never felt before. Also, you will develop more patience, strength and confidence as you grow stronger in the Lord. You are a changed person. Changed for the better…

that’s what you wanted right? You will become a light in a world filled with darkness and will also become a new creation. “Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!” 2Corinthians 5:17(NIV) God is giving you an opportunity right now if you desperately want to change your life at this very moment. You can truly change your heart, change your mind, change the way you love, change the way you live and change your life for eternity. Here is the recipe for change. a) Believe and have Faith in Christ - John 3:16(NIV) For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever BELIEVES in him shall not perish but have eternal life. Romans 10:9 (NIV) That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and BELIEVE in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. b) Repent and be Baptized - Acts 2:38(NIV) Peter replied, “Repent and be baptized, every one of you, in the name of Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of your sins. And you will receive the gift of the Holy Spirit.” Ask the Lord for forgiveness and repeat the sinner’s prayer. c) Get a Bible - Read it daily and start attending a Bible based church regularly. d) Develop a consistent prayer life - Prayer can be nothing more than having a conversation with God and pour-

ing out your heart to Him. Don’t worry if He’s listening to you because the Lord is omnipresent and omniscient, (everywhere and all knowing), so He will hear your every word. e) Get involved at your church in any way that you can to serve the Lord and grow in your Christian walk by making new friends that are strong in the Lord that can sharpen you. (The sinner’s prayer) Heavenly Father, I know that I have sinned against you and that my sins separate me from you. I am truly sorry. I now want to turn away from my past sinful life and turn to you for forgiveness. Please forgive me, and help me avoid sinning again. I believe that your son, Jesus Christ, died for my sins, was resurrected from the dead, is alive, and hears my prayer. I invite Jesus to become the Lord of my life, to rule and reign in my heart from this day forward. Please send your Holy Spirit to help me obey You, and to do Your will for the rest of my life. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen. Congratulations! For those that truly wanted change and have accepted Christ by Faith for the first time, you now have a whole new wondrous life ahead of you. Always remember to give God all the glory for His new creation in you. Let everything that has breath Praise the Lord!

Brentwood’s Mayor Taylor steps into office along with Erick Stonebarger and Bob Brockman by Will Byrns Brentwood, CA There was standing room only at the City Council Chambers as Mayor Bob Taylor, Vice Mayor Erick Stonebarger and Councilman Bob Brockman accepted the responsibilities at the swearing-in ceremonies on Tuesday December 9th, 2008. Reverend Austin Miles opened the meeting praying for God to protect and guide our civic leaders in their service to the community. Pastor Kim Moreno lifted the spirits of those in attendance with her angelic voice singing soulful renditions of ‘God Bless America’ and our ‘National Anthem.’ When the time came for our Mayor to take his position as the leader of Brentwood, Reverend Austin Miles produced a Bible for Mayor Taylor to lay his hand upon. This was an inspiring moment as the Mayor was very sincere about fulfilling all of his obligations and duties to the best of his ability in governing the people. We are truly blessed to have a City Council that cares about families and the quality of life that is available to the citizens of Brentwood and the surrounding cities which make up East County. We owe much of this to the vision and commitment of our leaders who have been here to serve us in recent years. They’re all very approachable and truly care about each one of us and our concerns. I urge you to participate in the City Council meetings and do your part to serve this great community that we live in for the sake of our children and one another.

Teen Views Following your Dreams by Samantha Marie What is your dream for your life? Do you want to become a doctor, write a book, sing a song or anything else that may seem impossible right now because of the complications here on earth? The world around you is just the world around you. Don’t let it control your life and stop you from doing the things that you want to do. Nothing is impossible for the Lord. Don’t think that something is impossible and definitely don’t speak that. The words of your mouth are so strong and so important. Saying you can’t do something is like telling your enemy to come and destroy your chances of your dream coming true. It is like an open invitation for him. God has given you the opportunity to follow your dreams. So what if you’re ten, thirty, fifty, maybe even eighty years old. It is NEVER too late to follow your dreams. The only way that you can’t do something is by saying that you can’t do it. Don’t let the world’s problems become yours. Financial crisis, family crisis, world crisis, nothing can stop you. Paying attention to all of the negative things in the world will only make your life more negative. Focus on the positive things. If you want to become a doctor, but you don’t have the money right now, then ask to shadow a doctor and try to learn the ropes for a little while. Study everything you need to know about being a doctor from books, until you have the money to get the knowledge to become a doctor. If you want to write a book, but don’t have the money or the resources to get it published, don’t just wait for someone to hand it to you. Do the research to find your own sources, and write away. NOTHING can stop you from doing what you want, not even money. If it is the Lord’s will for you to do it, it will happen. Take every opportunity that is given you to fulfill your dreams. Don’t make up excuses anymore for why you can’t do something and start thinking of all the reasons why you can do it. Talk about it with the Lord and make sure that it is something you feel is in his will and go for it. Anything is possible with the Lord! It is up to you to take the chance on your dreams. It’s worth it. Good Luck!

The Macho Guy And The Fetus by Rev. Austin Miles Men are confused about what a macho male is. It is believed by too many that a macho male is a tough guy who is in control at all times, does what he wants to do and will use his strength to enforce that idea. He will also use his strength to keep his wife or girlfriend in line. Real men don’t cry or exhibit any kind of tender emotions...so they believe. Not too long ago, I performed a baby dedication/baptism. The baby’s name is Jackson. I had married his parents, Randy and Heather Ches two years earlier. Randy, the father, who works with the police and is a totally macho male, who could pick up any one of us with one hand and thrash us, rejoiced in the news of the pregnancy. He and Heather did not even want to know if the baby would be a boy or girl, and would not let the doctor tell them. “Baby,” Randy said aloud, “we don’t care whether you are a boy or girl...we just want you...and we are making great preparations for your arrival.” Every evening, Randy put his hand on Heather’s tummy

“WOMAN TO WOMAN” The Excitement Of New Life by Susan Holmes When I think about the New Year that we are starting, I can’t help but think about all of the excitement that comes along with things that are NEW in our lives. New love, a new baby, new friends, a new home, new job, a new car, new clothes, a new hair style and even new shoes. The list can go on and on without an end to it. There is just something exciting about newness that we each experience that can sometimes turn to numbness as we carry out our day to day routines of life. The wonder of romance can turn to just cohabitation, the joy of a new baby can easily turn into sleepless nights and frustration, relationships with friends can grow cold, the thrill of a new home can turn to work and unexpected expenses, the new job soon becomes routine, the new car looses its great smell and needs repairs, new clothes wear out or get too small, the hair fashions change and the new shoes are no longer in style. It really doesn’t take very long for us woman to get bored with our lives and start looking around for our next NEW FIX. There is only one true solution to this human condition and it is called “New Life In Christ Jesus!” When we give our lives to the Lordship of Jesus Christ, every day can be filled with the excitement of new life. God’s mercy is renewed every single morning toward us and we can experience the joy of His love and presence every second of our lives. That is what salvation through new birth or some would call it regeneration is all about. Jesus said in John 17:3 “And this is eternal life: (it means) to know (to perceive, recognize, become acquainted with, and understand) You, the only true and real God, and (likewise) to know Him, Jesus (as the) Christ (the Anointed One, the Messiah), Whom

You have sent.” (Amplified Version). God did not create us to wait to go to Heaven to experience eternal life. He wants us to know Him personally here on Earth through faith in Jesus our Messiah and to allow Holy Spirit to open the eyes of our understanding to new levels of the depth of love that God has for us. Just think about it ladies, we were created to experience the joy of new degrees of the love that the Creator of the Universe has for us each and every day of our lives, now here in this world! Then we also get to experience more of the mystery of this love throughout all eternity. In reality our minds can’t fully comprehend this truth unless Holy Spirit gives us understanding to this fact. There is an even more amazing thing about this love of God for us: we can do nothing to earn it. We do not have to perform for it. All we need to do is receive His unending love. Jesus already paid the price with His own life on the cross to forgive our sins so that we can come into the Holy Presence of God. Love and acceptance are two things that each one of us needs. We spend a lot of time and energy seeking ways to fulfill these needs. Some of the ways that we seek fulfillment is to find the next new thing in life. The truth is that only through a love relationship with Jesus Christ can we find true fulfillment in these areas. God went to great lengths to provide a way for us to experience the joy of new life each and every day and every second of our lives. The newness of His love and presence grow to new depths as we develop our relationship with Him. Won’t you call on the Name of Jesus right now, repent of all sin and God’s love will allow you to experience the joy of new life for the rest of eternity.

Caminando a la Nueva Jerusalem SIN CULPA

“MAN to MAN” Men of Vision Oakley, CA Staff Report Men usually prefer things to be delivered in a no-nonsense fashion, straight up and to the point, right? So here it is with no sugar coating and no beating around the bush. Real men need Jesus! They need Jesus in their lives to be the strong man of God for their family and for the community in which they live in. Every third Monday of the month, real men get together at Mountain View Christian Center to strengthen each other, grow in the Lord and help one another to be set free of addictions and strongholds in their lives. This past month we heard a powerful testimony of a man (let’s call him John) that had overcome alcoholism and drugs to become the man that his wife and children had always dreamed of. John’s constant abuse of alcohol and drugs which then led to theft, finally landed him in prison, but that wasn’t enough as he became a repeat offender. Time and time again John just couldn’t get out of the hole he was in, until one day he gave his life totally to the Lord and asked for his help. Another man (we’ll call him Joe) shared how God had put it on his heart to let us know that if each one of us just tried to reach out to those in need just a little more, we could help change the world. “Just a little more,” Joe said, “to be a blessing to someone else is not that hard for us. I challenge every one of you to give just a little bit more.” A woman that Joe had blessed with ‘a little more’ told him that “God had visited me today.” When she said this to him, he broke down in tears. Men go deep and discuss how they’ve battled with situations that seemed impossible to gain victory over, but finally broke through only because of their faith in the Lord. Are you in a situation right now that is too big for you to handle? Does it seem as though there is no way out? Is the world getting too heavy and you just want to give up? Or, are you a man that has been walking with God, but just has a strong desire to grow closer to Him and build upon that relationship but just don’t know how to go about it? Wherever you are in life, I can assure you that if you come to a ‘Men of Vision’ meeting you will walk out differently than the way you walked in. Each month Pastor Jerry Hanoum equips men to be all that they can be. Pastor Jerry exclaimed to the men at the December meeting… “I want you to know that we are not here to judge one another, because that is not our position. We don’t put on airs or pretend to be someone we’re not. We get real with one another and sometimes go through painful problems to have a breakthrough. We are here to encourage one another just as brothers should do, and sharpen one another as scripture says in Proverbs 27:17.” So, if you’re a man who is in need of support and encouragement, (which we all need at times) come out to a ‘Men of Vision’ meeting. Great food and fellowship are always on the menu. What: Men of Vision Where: Mountain View Christian Center, 5000 Amaryllis Street in Oakley 94561. When: Every third Monday of the month – food at 6:30 pm, teaching at 7:00pm. Contact: 925-625-9570 for more information.

America’s Good News

Senior Moments

Financial Forum “Who Do You Work For?”

New Beginnings God’s Way by Priscilla Stanley Consider for a moment dreams or goals you’ve had that have been realized. Think back on those accomplishments or successful experiences that are the most meaningful for you to remember. I’m willing to guess that more than one of them had a rather tentative start. When we look carefully at the path that led to a personal success, we often realize that it began with a modest step forward, that in time reaped a much greater harvest than we anticipated. With the eyes of hindsight, we look back to such starting efforts with awe and gratitude. We realize there was pride in that moment of a small beginning that we couldn’t begin to appreciate at the time. We may shudder to think of how close we came to not taking that one initial step that opened such important doors. Unfortunately, the benefit of a small beginning is often lost when we face the possibility of starting on a new goal. The effort it would take to pursue it seems massive. We’re overwhelmed with the impossibility of it all. There seems to be little or nothing we can do to move forward. Through the eyes of faith, though, there is a world of difference between little and nothing. Often there is something we can do, some obvious first step we can take. This may be exactly what is needed to put the wheels of faith in motion. For one thing, we shouldn’t underestimate the value that taking any initial step toward a goal has upon us. Suddenly we’re committed, and we become more alert to opportunities that will move us toward our goal. Our family and friends become more aware of our intentions as well and are more likely to try and help us. Yet the spiritual aspect of taking the first step is even more important. The seemingly small beginning often gets much closer to the heart of the biblical idea of going forward in faith than we realize. We don’t usually think of it this way. The very notion of moving out in faith seems to imply taking a bold step of some sort. If we look in the Bible we realize Moses parted the Red Sea, Joshua lead the Israelites to bring down the wall of Jericho with a shout, David marshaled his troops for battle, Gideon confronted the Midianite army with only three hundred soldiers, Esther went before King Ahasuerus knowing that her life hung in the balance, Peter preached salvation to the Jews gathered on the day of Pentecost. It’s easy to conclude that if we’re not throwing caution to the wind, we’re not really taking a step of faith. Yet Scripture also shows great respect for the small, subtle first step. Ruth’s marriage to Boaz resulted from a small step forward. The marriage became possible because Ruth and her mother-in-law, Naomi, moved from Moab to Bethlehem. This move was anything but a triumphant one for these two women. Both went to Bethlehem as widows, Naomi returning to her homeland, and Ruth following along out of devotion. The move was borne more of necessity than of a vibrant vision for the future. They did something to break their grief and make a fresh start. In time the move brought benefits that exceeded their wildest expectations. Ruth met Boaz and married him, then gave birth to a son who became an ancestor of David. While taking the small first step can make all the difference, there are two factors that can keep us from appreciating an opportunity to move forward. One is that because of its insignificance, we may not even recognize the small beginning that’s available for us to make. Do you have a personal dream that has not been realized? To the best of your knowledge, is your dream in line with God’s best intentions for your life? Yet does it seem that there is little or nothing you can do to move toward your goal--that your hands are tied? The Bible’s book of beginnings is Genesis. But one other book starts with the same phrase, “In the beginning...” John 1:1 continues, “In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.” Job 8:6-7 simply states, “if you are pure and upright, even now he will rouse himself on your behalf and restore you to your rightful place. Your beginnings will seem humble, so prosperous will your future be.” Remember that a small beginning is sometimes the very step needed to open you to Christ. Pray earnestly and look honestly at what you actually can do to start moving toward your goal. Think of it as the launching point for a journey of faith. We never know where our journey will take us, but taking a step to accomplish and meet a goal or task no matter how small is a reward from God.

by Donald Kwong In uncertain economic times, it’s important that we remember who is in control. The Word of God is a lamp unto our feet that can help us in spite of whatever is going on in our world. In this new column, I’ll be exploring what God has to say about money and possessions. It is my hope that an eternal perspective on finances will help you in your journey towards Jesus. I’ll start with a look at financial compensation for those serving the Lord. “It is the Lord Christ you are serving.” Colossians 3:24 Is Jesus just and fair? Will he pay you a decent wage regardless of what organization he has you working in? Would it matter whether that organization were a business or a church? One of the dichotomies which we carry like albatrosses around our necks is that those who do “the Lord’s work” deserve less money. It’s this mindset that says a pastor shouldn’t earn as much as a CEO, in principle, regardless of what the business or the church can afford. A missionary should feel a financial pinch just to stay dependent on God. Let me present a few points: * Whatever the source of your paycheck, you should be working for the Lord. He is your boss. He is your real employer. * He gives a reward: “you will receive an inheritance.” * The reward is not dependent, in principle, on the type of work. * The reward may be linked to the value of the services to the corporation, church or business or otherwise, where you serve. IBM may be able to afford more than 1st Baptist, but that does not make the work of different value. * The classification of the work should not limit the reward, since in “whatever you do” you are “working for the Lord.” * If we say that those who “work for God” deserve less than those who work for themselves or a company, we are saying Jesus is a worse employer than others. This conflicts with his nature and his teaching. In the parable of the workers in the market, the workers who were employed at the end of the day received the same compensation as the ones who were hired in the morning. Who could want a better boss than Jesus? He is fair. He is loving. He is a straight talker. He always has your growth in mind. He will deploy you where most strategic. Even when he gives you menial jobs, they have a purpose, and he knows everything about your hearts desires… he even places desires in your heart! Who would want to work for anyone else? As we integrate our work and faith, as we erase the lines between business and mission, as we consider that all work is ministry, let us be careful not to perpetuate false thinking in regards to a work’s worth. When someone takes a year off from IBM to work for Campus Crusade, they should not be relegated to the “B-Category Pay Scales.” Part of that is dependant on the generosity of the saints. Are we cheerful givers to ministry? We are serving the one and only living God. He is no cheapskate; let’s make sure that we are generous too so that we don’t give him a bad name as an employer. “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as if working for the Lord, not for men, since you know that you will receive an inheritance from the Lord as a reward. It is the Lord Christ you are serving.”

America’s Good News

Families on Fire True Intimacy by Andrew Pate He lost count of how many beds that he had shared over the past several years. All he was sure of was that the excitement of a new “conquest” had fast turned into a dull emptiness making him feel more alone than satisfied. Frustration fell over him as he tried to justify what he had just done. He had an emptiness that couldn’t be filled, and no matter how many partners he tried, he was still just as empty as he had been with his first. He looked at the shape next to him and then at the clock. He shot up with a panic and hurried to get to his car. It was already 2:00am, if he didn’t get home soon his

wife would start calling for him. She lost count of how many bottles of wine she had drank every night. She had been convinced that when she was married she would no longer have the empty feeling inside that had haunted her in her teen years. Instead of a reprieve, marriage became a nightmare for her. She talked to her friends, read Cosmo, and even watched Oprah and Dr. Phil, but no one could understand what she was going through. Rid yourselves of all the offenses you have committed, and get a new heart and a new spirit. Why will you die, O house of Israel?

Hollywood has sold us a cheap and twisted version of what love and intimacy is. It has taken love and turned it into lust. Intimacy has been reduced to a one night stand with no strings attached. God made us in His image, and God is love. Therefore, we are loving beings, and we look for love to make us complete. If we do not have an understanding of what love really is, we will turn to poor substitutes in an attempt to fill the void. Adultery, pornography, drug abuse, and alcoholism are only a few examples of the substitutes that are available to us. Only a personal relationship with Jesus Christ will fill the empty void that is waiting to swallow us up. Low selfesteem, depression, and rage are some of the symptoms that accompany us when we fail to have a relationship with our creator. What is exciting is that no matter how far we have fallen, Jesus Christ is waiting to pick us up and show us his love. All we have to do is ask. Hebrews 10:22 says, “Let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience.” This means that we have significant privileges associated with our life in Jesus Christ. We have personal access to God through Jesus Christ

and can draw near without having to go through a complicated system. We just have to ask with a sincere heart. This month in Families on Fire we are learning what true intimacy is and how through a personal relationship with Jesus Christ will bring restoration to the damages that we have both inflicted upon ourselves and have had inflicted upon us. One of the treasures that we are learning is that when we are having trouble with our spouses, or life in general, we need to reflect on how solid is our personal relationship with Jesus. We are finding that the stronger our relationship is with our Creator, the better we are at dealing with life’s everyday challenges. We look forward to you joining us for these life changing lessons on what true intimacy is, and how it will improve both your marriage and your everyday life. Families on Fire meet every Sunday at 9:00 am at Mountain View Christian Center in Oakley. We look forward to meeting you. God Bless..
