July/August Recaps EDITOR’S NOTE: Hello busy bees! It’s been so long that school’s started again. Distance learning has a learning curve, for sure, but I was pleasantly surprised by my teachers that first week of school. Hopefully, this positive trend continues. I’m looking forward to bringing you more updates throughout the rest of the term!

HI FELLOW KEY-RBIES! How are you liking distance learning so far? Although things are strange and new to us all, I hope school has started out okay if not better for you. As for Key Club, there are many things we can't do right now, but we are trying harder than ever to provide you all with interesting and fun service events. We had lots of things planned, so once things clear up, we'll be at full speed ahead! Thank you for your cooperation. Remember that if you've been feeling down, especially for a prolonged time, please reach out to someone; your friends and family, adults, me... And lastly, don't forget to keep your hands clean and stay at home! We got this :)

//The Double Good Fundraiser In July, we had a very successful fundraiser where our Key Club Community raised over $500 for the Pediatric Trauma Program. We organized this fundraiser as a competition among all of our members and officers, in an effort to bring our community closer during pandemic times. We all attempted to one up each other by trying to raise
the most money, ultimately raising even more money. The Fundraiser lasted 4 days, and it was a lot of fun seeing our members raising money and buying popcorn. Congratulations to Bella for raising $175! Overall, it was a very fun experience and it was very nice to see our community participating and enjoying some gourmet popcorn!
//The Love for the Elderly Service Project On July 25th, we hosted a virtual letter making event at American High's Key Club for The Love for the Elderly Project by a student not unlike us. During the event itself, I was so pleased to see that we had over twenty people attend,
with some even being from other schools. While Spiderman: Into the Spiderverse played on in the background, I concentrated on writing my letter. In it, I discussed some of the hardships I faced last year that followed me into quarantine. But
what was really important to me was that I translated across my words how they've helped me grow too, and I hoped that my letter might be able to cheer up someone who's down!

HEAR FROM OUR YOUNGEST OFFICER!
As a freshman last year, I joined a broad variety of clubs during club rush to experiment a bit of everything and strengthen my interests. Although I ended dropping a lot of the clubs, Key Club was one of the only few I stuck with. Key Club’s spirit and close community was something that caught my attention almost instantly—the way members were able to bond and have fun. What set apart Key Club apart from other service clubs was that they not only helped the community, they also strived to make progress for Pediatric Trauma Program and Maternal Neonatal Tetanus. By being appointed sophomore representative, I started participating and attending to a lot more events. Being an officer has helped a lot with my leadership and organization skills, a great benefit to joining Key Club Additionally, despite quarantine posing many restrictions on service events, Key Club has still has not failed to host incredible virtual events that provide service hours in creative ways. Thus, I definitely recommend joining Key Club this year, regardless of what grade you’re in, as it helps build character and offers plentiful ways for you to make friends while bettering the community!

A month o Jennifer Kim (11), Publicist American x Irvington On Friday, August 21st, American worked together with Irvington to host a bookmark making even to donate to kids just beginning to learn how to read! Referring to Instagram artist @angelaccpan’s work, I enjoyed concentrating on my bookmarks. It was very relaxing to have music playing in the background (what a bopping playlist!) while sketching, coloring, lettering, and repeating that process three more times. I’m a lover of books myself, but ever since high school, I’ve been reading less and less. Making these bookmarks brought me back to a simpler time; I hope they’ll be put to good use!

of collabs! Rishita Dhalbisoi (10), Sophomore Representative American x Milpitas On the weekend of August 29th, American High and Milpitas Keyclub hosted an interclub “Bean Bean Bean” event. In this 2-day event, Keyclub members met over Zoom throughout the weekend and answered trivia questions on beanbeanbean.com. For each question right, beans were donated to charity to help and combat hunger! This event was a huge success as members bonded over Zoom by playing games like “Soulmate.” Overall, it was a very simplistic event which was a great way to donate charity from the laptop and comfort from your own home!

STUFF THE BUS 2020 Key Clubbers from American helped raise more boxes of school supplies than ever before at this annual Fremont Kiwanis event! All boxes are donated to kids who need them most!
CHARITY MILES Throughout August, Key Clubbers all over D12E ran to collect a total of 941.36 hours! Congrats to the top 3: Vishnu Nair, Stanley Lew, and Andrew Trang! MATH FOR GOOD CHALLENGE From Aug. 17th-31st, D12E teamed with UNICEF to answer math questions. $0.25 were donated to provide education for children for each correct answer!
JULY DCM The July DCM took place on the last day of our service week! Of course, we had to a service event: Freerice! Similar to BeanBeanBean, rice is donated for every correct trivia answer! RTC 2020 Regional Training Conference is still on this year, never fear! The LTGs of Region 9 & 17 are organizing a virtual 2-day event from Sept. 19th-20th that will be just as fulfilling as RTC is IRL!
FRN 2020 2021 Save the date! Our annual Fall Rally North that traditionally takes in October at Six Flags has been rescheduled to take place on May 1st, 2021!

CLUB OF THE MONTH LIEUTENANT GOVERNOR AWARD During the August DCM-LTG Banquet hybrid event, our Key Club at American was bestowed the honor of not only Club of the Month but also the Lieutenant Governor Award, which is representative of everything we did in the 2019-20 term! We just wanted to thank everyone who made this possible whether it be through attending a service event, paying your ues, or just being active. Your actions have made a big impact on our club’s morale every term!

QUARANTINE ISN’T OVER YET. STAY SAFE. On Monday, July 13th, Governor Gavin Newsom reinstated the halt to all indoor activities at most facilities. In light of the renewed lockdown, make effort to follow proper quarantine protocols.
Stay at home. Of course, it’s okay to take a short walk, but avoid large crowds in general and always maintain a safe distance away from others. Always wear a mask. If you do find yourself needing to stay out for a long period of time, always wear a mask. It saves lives. Wash your hands frequently for 20 seconds and with soap. Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth. Hands can carry some of the most germs. Seek care early. If you do begin to show symptoms of having contracted COVID-19, such as fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, get tested early.
