Fall Shows Mean Busy Season by Shea Whaley, Public Relations & At Large Director

I

hope everyone is having a great school year so far, and looking forward to all the fall majors coming up! My name is Shea Whaley and I am a sophomore at Iowa State University, where I am studying Agricultural Communications with a minor in Marketing & Advertising. I currently serve as your Social Media & Public Relations Officer and an At-Large Director on the American Junior Chianina Board of Directors. With this being my third and final year on the board, I have been so blessed to meet and connect with so many of you and to continue to be an advocate for the Chianina breed. I am looking forward to seeing you all at our upcoming major shows. In September, the Junior Board members met in Kansas City and had a fun weekend retreat. We had the opportunity to interact outside of a cattle show, get to know each other better, work on our strengths and weaknesses, and discuss ways we can all contribute to our team. We welcomed the past Iowa FFA President, Mia Gibson, who graciously volunteered to lead us in teambuilding exercises, leaning about our strengths and weaknesses as a team, and ultimately taught us ways to contribute our strengths to the team. This was a great weekend for all of us to get together and spend time bonding with our 2022-2023 AJCA Board of Directors. The other part of the weekend was to sit down and plan the upcoming year. We were able to plan out some of our goals for the year, social media plans, and talk about upcoming shows. Everyone had a great weekend, and we look forward to a wonderful year! As a Junior Board, we are doing Instagram takeovers, so tune into the AJCA Instagram page over the next several weeks to see what our board members are up to! Don’t forget to follow our other socials as well! We post lots of important information about upcoming shows and junior nationals! Speaking of upcoming shows, we have a busy few months ahead of us! We just finished up the junior and open shows at the American Royal! NAILE is less than a month away and we can’t wait to see everyone on the green shavings! Make plans to attend the AJCA membership meeting on Saturday, Nov. 12 at 2 pm. Our Junior show will be at 8 am on Sunday, Nov. 13 with Todd Herman judging. The ACA is celebrating its 50th Anniversary with a Reception and Celebration in Louisville on Monday, November 14 at 3 pm in the West Hall. The open shows wrap up the events on Wednesday, Nov. 16 in Freedom Hall with judges Scott & Andrew Foster.
