ilt’s of Amelia, Inc., is undoubtedly a family-run business: Richard Crawford started the company in 1990, as a “sister” business to Milt’s of Sarasota, which was run by his father, Milt Crawford. Milt sold his company in 1994 and retired, and Rick and two of this three sons—Nick and Patrick-now operate the third-generation company. Nick Crawford, Marketing Coordinator and Office Administrator, explains that Milt’s handles both residential and light commercial air conditioning and heating sales and service for Nassau County, including Fernandina Beach, Amelia Island, and Yulee. Milt’s can help with service or with an equipment upgrade or with repair, including warranty work on all models. hip Harper has owned Harper Insurance Agency for twenty three years, and he moved his office to Fernandina Beach from Middleburg last year in March. Chip is an independent agent, who specializes in home, auto, renter’s, and flood insurance. In addition, the company also writes boat, motorcycle, and RV insurance. Harper Insurance provides client services throughout the state of Florida, but concentrates in Northeast Florida. “We cover coastal property, condos, new construction, older homes, vacant dwellings and renters’ insurance,” explains Chip. “We have access to more than fifty carriers, which enables us to shop for competitive rates.” Harper Insurance Agency also provides liability policies for small businesses, including painters and landscapers. Chip is a graduate of Georgia Southern University, where he played football for two years for Erik Russell. Chip and his wife of twenty seven years, Jennifer Cowart Harper, have made their home on the marsh in Yulee. “We had been coming to Fernandina Beach for many summers to stay at a family condo,” says Chip, “but it was definitely time to move here.” The Harpers, who have three children—Chandler, 23, Tyler, 19, and Houston, 13—also share their home with a soft-coat Wheaton Terrier and a Persian cat. On the weekends, Chip enjoys going to the local market, kayaking, and spending time at the beach with his family.
