AMCOGIFFEN IN SCOTLAND
Our regional hub is based in Cumbernauld with satellite depots in Inverness, Irvine, Glasgow, Cumbernauld and Perth. We employ 250 people across Scotland, collectively delivering our blend of civils construction and multi-discipline engineering projects.
AmcoGiffen delivery teams are supported by locally based work winning, commercial, engineering (including permanent and temporary works design) and SHEQ (Safety, Health, Environment & Quality) specialists.
With a substantial secured framework pipeline, AmcoGiffen confidently invests in people. We have an ambitious national apprenticeship scheme for aspiring skilled trades and trainees. We have developed our team of multi-skilled specialists to undertake a full and unique range of engineering activities including feasibilities and design, maintenance and refurbishment, and capital projects.
Established in 1970 in Yorkshire, and present in Scotland since the 1980’s, AmcoGiffen is a trusted framework partner to a range of infrastructure asset owners throughout the region.

With our repair, refurbishment and construction capabilities across our key markets – we build bridges and retaining walls for Network Rail, Local Authorities and Transport Scotland Operating companies , we construct surface water management systems nationally and we provide enabling infrastructure for energy generators. We can manufacture our own steel structures (we are National Highways Sector Scheme 20 accredited) and we have specialist concrete repair and masonry teams.

Complementary to our asset management activity, AmcoGiffen is a leading emergency response services provider for Network Rail. We are organised to guarantee mobilisation within agreed timescales –anywhere in Scotland. Relied upon following landslips, bridge strikes and flooding events; we deliver holistic solutions to quickly restore railway operability –securing sites, coordinating stakeholders, surveying damage and marshalling our engineering design and construction resources to deliver fast track multi-million pounds restoration programmes.

Network Rail and Train Operating Companies focused. AmcoGiffen designs and develops new stations, we upgrade and replace platforms, renew depot infrastructure, complete multidiscipline interiors and install Access for All station enhancements. We organise to always protect our railway people and the travelling public. We protect impacted infrastructure –minimising disruption and we consider the communities where we work. Across design, construction and specialist railway engineering services, we offer effective turnkey solutions, nationally.
| Asset Management
We deliver inspection, maintenance, repair and minor capital works for essential infrastructure owners nationally. We provide civils asset management services for Network Rail across Scotland, including emergency response, scheduled lineside interventions and specialist engineering. We have held successive frameworks across England with Canal & River Trust (inland waterways) and the Environment Agency for MEICA and environmental civil engineering. We deliver high volume, small scale interventions daily from Thurso to Truro.

We collaborate with essential infrastructure clients to design and deliver climate resilience and naturalisation schemes nationally. We have extensive experience with coastal defence, flood prevention, scour protection and watercourse restoration schemes where we have worked consensually with statutory organisations, including NatureScot, SEPA and Marine Scotland, to deliver infrastructure protection and enhance our environment, supported by our own ecology team.

AmcoGiffen has a steel fabrication workshop and an installation team working throughout the UK. As well as providing replacement bridge superstructures for our Network Rail projects, it has developed specialisms with water control structures (including lock gates), heritage metalwork restoration and tunnel support beams. Our team is BS EN 1090-1:2009 – Structural Components for Steel Structures (Execution Class 4), National Highways Sector Scheme 20 and Register of Qualified Steelwork Contractors accredited.

As a subsidiary of Renew Holdings plc we can take advantage of supply chain resources to deliver structural and lineside strengthening for Network Rail, within the wider transportation sector, for hydro generation asset owners and for industry. We design and construct reinforced earthworks, strengthen foundations, stabilise rockfaces, modify weak soils and install drainage. Working on live assets – we innovate to minimise disruption, using creative programme, access and equipment choices.

AmcoGiffen has significant experience with culverts and drainage repair and replacement for Network Rail and the Environment Agency. Frequently appointed under Early Contractor Involvement, we work with key stakeholders (including SEPA, NatureScot and Fisheries) to create sensitive and sustainable solutions. As well as conventional excavation activity, we can organise to minimise disruption with innovative trenchless techniquesrelining, horizontal directional drilling and micro-tunnelling.

AmcoGiffen delivers inspection, maintenance and capital works for Network Rail, Canal & River Trust, the Environment Agency, Port Authorities and Local Authorities. Our project management skills encompass feasibility, installation and commissioning across civil, structural, mechanical, electrical and control disciplines. In addition to our national experience with moving bridges, we refurbish linkspans, lock gates, sluices and pumping stations. We work seamlessly with a highly specialised supply chain to deliver effective outcomes.

| Signalling, Power & Telecoms
Network Rail focused. AmcoGiffen provides specialist design, planning and installation services across signalling, power and telecoms assets nationally –both standalone and as part of our multi-discipline major projects. We have completed level crossing upgrades, points installation, electro mechanical and route relay interlocking, relay room enhancements and depot protection systems. Across the Scotland Route, we have experience with the upgrade of lineside power and station telecoms infrastructure.
| Tunnels
Amco was established in Yorkshire in 1970 to support National Coal Board deep mining and this heritage underpins our pioneering tunnel work for transportation and industrial clients, including SSE Renewables and Network Rail. We have a national tunnel engineering team delivering lining repairs and maintenance and structural enhancements. Confined space and mines rescue trained, they undertake drilling and bolting, masonry repairs, drainage enhancements, concrete repairs and structural steelwork installations.

| Historical Structures
AmcoGiffen protects and restores historical infrastructure assets nationally, including Scheduled Ancient Monuments and Listed Buildings. This is a recurring characteristic of our work across Network Rail’s viaducts and stations and Victorian water control infrastructure for the Environment Agency. We collaborate with statutory organisations (including Historic Environment Scotland), manufacturers and conservation architects to detail, consent and implement essential masonry, timber and metalwork replacements. Our stonemasons are Scottish Lime Centre Trust trained.
Our expert aviation team is a capital works Principal Contractor for Manchester Airports Group and a specialist services provider across private, public and military aviation assets nationally. We design, construct and maintain airport infrastructure: concrete and asphalt pavement repairs and installation, stand reconfigurations and airside and landside general civil engineering. We have specialist teams delivering trench cutting, joint sealing, ducting and airfield ground lighting installation.

Our mechanical and electrical experts carry out inspection, maintenance and capital works for Canal & River Trust, the Environment Agency, Port Authorities and Network Rail, primarily through enduring collaborative asset management frameworks. By combining our mechanical, electrical, telecoms and civil engineering capabilities, we provide a comprehensive service for essential infrastructure asset owners within the energy, environmental and transport sectors. We are NICEIC registered.
| Rail - Track Infrastucture
Our local team provides a comprehensive service across inspection, planning (including temporary works), engineering assurance, installations and hand back. We deliver planned and emergency maintenance and capital works. We undertake all types of permanent way engineering: full plain line track renewals, switches and crossings, slabtrack and longitudinal timber embedded rail, re-sleepering, re-alignment, track lowering, undertrack crossings and lineside drainage.
