There’s tostones, too, of course. - Picadillo, the traditional Latino dish made with ground beef, potatoes, onions, garlic, cumin, bell peppers, white wine, tomato sauce, raisins, olives and capers - Pastelon, basically a Puerto Rican sweet plantain lasagna. This layered meat dish is simmered in an aromatic, savory tomato sauce and olives. Each layer has sweet fried plantains and topped with melted cheese before being served with rice - Fricase de Pollo, another Puerto Rican staple, is made with chicken braised in wine with potatoes and carrots and erved with rice and beans - Bistec encebollado, seared marinated flank steak served with rice, beans and plantains - Triplete Sandwich features chicken, roasted pork and ham(yes, all three meats), served with sautéed onions, green peppers, melted cheese, lettuce, tomato, and potato “stix” on a hot press bread. It’s impossible to go wrong with the Flavor Sampler for starters, since the highly shareable appetizer features a little bit of everything, including alcapurrias, empanadas, fired yuca, ham croquettes, corn sorullitos and chicharron de pollo with house dipping sauces. For mains, the pernil is a must-try, as is the Mar y Tierra, the surf-and-turf dish that includes flank steak with Criollo sauce served with shrimp, white rice and tostones or maduros. Save room for Jon’s Flan, the dessert made by Mercedes with love. Latin Flavor’s dining area is bright and airy and overlooks the kitchen, because Nancy and her family want customer to know how their meals are being prepared.
