Our Celebration of Wine River Cruises journey through the heart of Europe’s most celebrated wine regions, from France’s acclaimed Bordeaux and Burgundy regions to Austria’s Wachau Valley, Portugal’s Douro Valley, Germany’s famed Moselle region, and beyond. Here is just a sampling of what you might experience along European rivers in select wine regions.
Burgundy
Since Roman times, the Saône and Rhône rivers have created favorable conditions for grape cultivation, particularly those of the Pinot Noir and Chardonnay varieties.
Our excursions in this region include a visit to the Hôtel-Dieu, a present-day museum where you can taste Côte de Beaune wines; a visit to Château du Clos de Vougeot, a unique wall-enclosed vineyard; and the opportunity to visit a château for the first time in the famed “Birthplace of Mustard,” Dijon.

Bordeaux
In the corner of southwestern France, the Garonne and Dordogne rivers merge to form the Gironde Estuary that naturally divides the famous Bordeaux region into its Left and Right banks.
Among our included excursions, you can pedal through Saint Émilion and its famous vineyards; attend an exclusive wine festival in Bourg; sample the highly prized golden-hued wines of the Sauternes wine region; and immerse your senses in wine at the impressive Cité du Vin museum.

Provence
Within Provence's prized Rhône Valley, you will sample Rosés; Hermitage, King Louis XIII’s wine of choice; and even Châteauneufdu-Pape, favored by the Popes of the Roman Catholic Church during the 14th century. In addition to historic walking tours, you can enjoy a wine and chocolate tasting at Château de Tournon, hike through Tain-l’Hermitage,and hunt for truffles alongside a canine companion – all with AmaWaterways’ compliments.

Austria’s Wachau Valley
The charming Wachau Valley has gained worldwide recognition for its Grüner Veltliner white grape variety. Planted throughout Austrian vineyards, many of which are just beyond the Danube River’s banks, those coveted vines range from acidic and zesty in their youth to complex and nutty as they age.
Our Wine Cruise itineraries include a tour of the Schloss Gobelsburg cellar in Krems where you will learn about traditional winemaking practices; a tasting of Weissenkirchen’s famed apricot wines; and even a visit to historic Burg Clam.
