ACHILLE CASTIGLIONE

187 C

Castiglione quoted, “design demands observation which was evident in his industrial designs that often utilized everyday objects. As an observer early in life, my work has been influenced by my childhood in rural northeast Iowa. More recently, my study abroad in Rome, Italy has been inspiration for my designs. Although both of these places have been of inspiration, I attribute my creativity to the observations of everyday life and my daily surroundings. For this reason, I am aware of my environment as it may spark an idea or an opportunity to learn.

Translated from Latin, Avant means forward. Avant is for the young, wealthy and independent each with their own expression of image. Just as one wears a particular garment to display social class or style, so too do they stay at a certain hotel because it can make a statement about themselves. It is the runway where progressive fashion and brandscaping meets voyeuristic attitude. A forward thinking lifestyle that states luxury is attention. Project completed in Revit and Photoshop. In collaboration with Kelly Fuglsang, Ryan Schilling and Tom Dillman.

The San Diego resort lifestyle is one that consists of 5 star restaurants, 24 hour amenities and suite style rooms. With this idea in mind, Atria’s two assisted living facilities in Encinitas, CA were redesigned to better align with the needs and wants of the baby boom generation. Brand identity also marketed the facility as hospitality verses institutional. Project completed in Revit and Photoshop. In collaboration with Christina Schwab and Melissa Cooper.

The iconic Lake Shore Drive apartments by Mies Van Der Rohe in Chicago, IL are highly sought after by modern architecture enthusiasts and those who want a view. The clients, the Greenwoods are a fictitious couple with an extensive art collection, a love of entertaining and the floor to ceiling views of Lake Michigan and the Chicago skyline. It was important that the design did not draw attention away from the art collection and view, and thus a tranquil space with clean, modern lines was favored. Project Completed by hand, in Revit and Photoshop

Although Italian, Renzo Piano’s architecture with it’s large open spaces and unmasked structural beauty is in stark contrast to the patina found in the architecture of Italy. But when brought together contemporary space and aged finishes can be cohesive. In collaboration with Cheri Malone.

For many, coffee is a daily ritual whether enjoyed at home with the morning paper, contained in a thermos for the morning commute or freshly brewed by the neighborhood coffee shop. Despite where it is prepared or consumed one thing is constant with coffee that is transforming walking zombies into productive humans. Intelligentsia takes the fundamental idea of coffee, energy, and uses it as a marketing strategy. Project completed in Photoshop.

Light. Through the spectrum of light color is derived. A prism takes light and bends it separating it into bands of color. Therefore, color and light are related. The human light, a concept developed by the Italian lighting brand, Artemide viewing light as a counterpart to humans and one’s daily life. Light fixtures are not just objects of beauty but sculptures of function delivering comfort as well as pleasure. Combining the ideas of color and light, function and pleasure one can fully appreciate light. Project completed by hand and in Photoshop.
