about me

About Me

My inspirations are grounded in nature and its beautiful creatures. I was born and raised in Redding, CA. I grew up on a small farm and had many pets growing up. I went to Shasta College and became a Veterinary Technician. I then moved to a small beach town, San Luis Obispo, CA and lived there for seven years where I became a pet stylist and got married to my high school sweetheart. My creativity florished there where I could give lion cuts to cats and dye tiger stripes on dogs. My husband and I moved to the Bay Area in 2013. I wanted to take my creativity and turn it into something for the built environment so I went back to school for Interior Design. My passion runs deep in textiles and furniture selection.

LIGHTING DESIGN NOLIA

DESIGN CHALLENGE To design a light fixture inspired by an Architect or fashion designer and physically build the fixture. DESIGN SOLUTION The Architect I chose for inspiration was Zaha Hadid. I was inspired by the soft movement of a magnolia trees leaves moving in the wind. The leaves of the light fixture make is seem weightless which the brass material make is seem heavy and strong similar to Zaha Hadid’s buildings. SOFTWARE USED Modo, Photoshop

CONCEPT DEVELOPMENT ZAHA HADID

DESIGN PHILOSOPHY She took the strongest materials in the world and manipulated them to form objects that appear soft and sturdy at the same time.

22

Lighting Design 23 DESIGN CONCEPT The concept is based after a magnolia leaf. I chose this becuase I wanted the design to have fluidity, look soft and organic yet have a heavy industrial feel with the chosen materials like Zaha Hadid’s buildings.

AUGMENTED REALITY SEASONS

DESIGN CHALLENGE To explore augmented and virtual reality by designing a future flex space for the firm Oculus. The workspace/meeting pod should transform in someway to accommodate different programs and allow for multiple modes of being in the workplace. DESIGN SOLUTION The design concept is how humans, plants, and animals have to adapt to their environments to thrive during seasonal changes. Plants change leaf geometry in order to survive and arctic foxes coats changes color during the seasons to act as camouflage. Viewers can interact with the pod as its fur changes color, grows, and retracts, with their touch as it transforms throughout the year. GROUP PROJECT In collaboration with Chanell Ortillo 28

SOFTWARE USED Modo, Photoshop, Unity and 8th Wall AR, Sketchfab VR

CLIENT & RESEARCH

Location: Menlo Park, California FACEBOOK OCULUS AR/VR They build the virtual reality hardware and platform that lets you experience anything, anywhere, with anyone. VR’s potential to connect the world is immense—and they’re just getting started.

30

Augmented Reality 31 DESIGN DEVELOPMENT Taking the shape of an igloo to represent winter, the cell structure of a plant for spring, and the changing fur for adaptation creates the future meeting pod for commercial offices.

PHYSICAL MODEL

Arctic foxes have beautiful white coats that act as very effective winter camouflage. The natural hues allow the animal to blend into the tundra’s ubiquitous snow and ice. When the seasons change, the fox’s coat turns as well, adopting a brown or gray appearance that provides cover among the summer tundra’s rocks and plants. Winter Coat

3D PRINTED WEARABLES MYSTÈRE BLOOMS

DESIGN CHALLENGE To create and explore the 3D printed fabrication of double curvature structures while incorporating fashion design. The idea is to create a catalogue of geometries and work with the forms to focus on how the human body interacts and connects with what we wear, with other people, and with the broader environment. DESIGN SOLUTION The design of the wearable sculptures stemmed from research-based design and blossomed into a familiar form from nature. Each wearable is made to feel delicate, feminine, natural, and organic. GROUP PROJECT In collaboration with Daisy Ma and Jaqueline Cameron

INITIAL GEOMETRY

The name’s Latin origins means “I blossom” or “ I flourish.” The outer form of the geometry is compared to the petals of a flower that are held in place by the twig-like interior structure. The design of the wearable sculpture stemmed from research-based design and blossomed into a familiar form from nature.

SITE ANALYSIS

Location: Paradise, California ABOUT PARADISE Paradise is located on a ridge with elevations ranging from 2,000 to 2800 feet above sea level. At the time there were over 26,000 residents that enjoyed tall pines and majestic oaks, cooler summer temperatures, and occasional winter snowfalls. The Camp Fire started November 8, 2018 and was one of the most destructive wildfires in California. It destroyed 153,336 acres and almost the whole town was completely gone.

58

Health Care 59 DESIGN CONCEPT It is centered around a fire poppy and its beautiful resilience for regrowing after a fire. The brick fireplace with the mural painted on it was the only thing left standing after the Camp Fire. The brick is used throughout my project and is a symbol of strength. The green roof is used to show regrowth.

The goal of the design is aimed towards making people feel more hopeful and healed through art and dance, colorful wall murals, natural light, soft materials, and a roof top community garden with solar panels.

PROJECT GOALS

1. Sensitive design: aimed towards making people feel more hopeful and healed 2. Providing a safe space: through use of colorful murals, natural light, and soft materials 3. Sustainability goals: provide green roof which can support community gardening
